Programme Type INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body. Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate). National Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 3 (SAQA ID No.: 58375) This qualification is designed with the idea to introduce the basics of bookkeeping to individuals entering the bookkeeping environment; this qualification is registered on the SAQA (South African Qualifications Framework) and focuses mainly on the principles of bookkeeping. Students should be able to complete functions including Creditors control, payroll, IRP and VAT as well as Tax functions. Accreditation The National Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 3 is accredited by ICB and FASSET. Programme Type The National Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 3 is a National Qualification. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent. No prior Accounting knowledge is required. 7

Course Content Bookkeeping to Trial Balance Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns Computerised Bookkeeping Business Literacy Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. Assessment and Exam Information You are required to hand in written assignments and write 1 formal exam per subject. Please note that exams are written in May and October of each year. To qualify to write these exams you must be registered with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) before the closing date. PLEASE NOTE: Your enrolment with INTEC does not include the registration with ICB. Please contact the Institute for details on exam registration, dates and registration fees. Award Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive an ICB results letter outlining the unit standards covered. The ICB will apply to FASSET on the learner s behalf for the National Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 3 to be certificated. Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 4 (SAQA ID No.: 58376) The FETC Bookkeeping qualification as set out on the South African Qualifications Framework refers to mainly the more senior functions of bookkeeping like the analysis of financial year statements for companies as small as sole traders and as large as closed corporations. This is only a few of this really fulfilling programme that will see you knocking at the door of being a financial technician in Accounting. Accreditation The Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 4 is accredited by ICB and FASSET. Programme Type The Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 4 is a National Qualification. Entrance Requirements Grade 11 (Std. 9) or an equivalent or a National Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 3. National Diploma: Technical Financial Accounting NQF 5 (SAQA ID No.: 36213) The Diploma is designed to ensure that you are competent in the software packages that are commercially used to perform routine accounting functions. This course is for you if you are unable to or do not wish to continue with your studies to become a Registered Chartered Accountant. It is designed with the objective of encouraging the widest possible access to the accounting profession. Accreditation This course is accredited by the ICB and FASSET. Programme Type The National Diploma: Technical Financial Accounting NQF 5 is a National Qualification. Entrance Requirements Grade 12 (Std. 10) or an equivalent, with Accounting or Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping NQF 4 Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 24 months. 11

Certified Junior Bookkeeper CJBIcb (SA) The skills of the Junior Bookkeeper will encompass bookkeeping to trial balance on the hand system as well as a functioning knowledge of a computerised bookkeeping / accounting system. He / she will master source documents (tax invoices), the rules of double entry, subsidiary journals, the General Ledger, bookkeeping for the different inventory systems and bank and supplier statement reconciliation. Accreditation The Certified Junior Bookkeeper is accredited by the ICB. Programme Type The Certified Junior Bookkeeper is an Agent Programme. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent. Award Once you have completed the Certified Junior Bookkeeper Course which entitles you to be awarded the designation, you are required to register with the ICB and pay all the necessary fees. Once this has happened, the ICB will issue Membership Certificates indicating the level of membership and designation. These will be valid until the 31 January of each year and renewable upon payment of annual subscriptions. Add-on Options Save up to 20% if you add the Certified Senior Bookkeeper Certificate to your course when you enrol. 14

Certified Senior Bookkeeper CSBIcb (SA) A Certified Senior Bookkeeper will able to complete the monthly bookkeeping function as well as the annual accounting function. In addition to all the functions and tasks set out for the Junior Bookkeeper, thus will also be competent in year-end accounting excluding the finalisation of business and personal income tax returns and will also be able to complete basic management accounts and have a working knowledge of cost accounting. Accreditation The Certified Senior Bookkeeper is accredited by ICB. Programme Type The Certified Senior Bookkeeper is an Agent Programme. Entrance Requirements Grade 11 (Std. 9) or an equivalent or CJBIcb (SA). 15

Certified Technical Financial Accountant CTFAIcb (SA) A Certified Technical Financial Accountant will able to operate with management in an accounting environment. On completion of this programme learners will have the Technical Financial Accountant comprehensive knowledge of bookkeeping, financial accounting, management accounting, cost accounting, personal and business taxation, business law and accounting control to name a few. Programme Type The Certified Technical Financial Accountant is an Agent Programme. Accreditation This course is accredited by the ICB. 17

ICB Skills Programmes 19 Bookkeeping to Trial Balance A skills programme introducing a learner to source documents, the rules of double entry, subsidiary journals, the general ledger, bookkeeping for the different inventory systems and bank and creditors reconciliations. The programme will provide skills for the Accounts Clerk (the individual that processes monthly financial transactions) and the Debtors and Creditors Clerk functions. Payroll and Monthly SARS returns The skills programme will revise the manual monthly bookkeeping function. It will introduce learners to payroll and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act as well as basic business ethics. Learners will be able to complete the payroll function from the bookkeeping perspective. A learner will be able to complete the SARS payroll returns (EMP201, IRP 5, IT3a, IRP501). Learners will also be able to complete the VAT201 return. Computerised Bookkeeping It is essential that the Junior Bookkeeper be able to complete the monthly bookkeeping function on a computer. Learners must demonstrate this competence in Microsoft Excel and Pastel Accounting. Learners are required to submit an assignment completed in both Excel and Pastel. Financial Statements This learning area provides skills for the Senior Bookkeeper. It incorporates depreciable asset disposal, year-end adjustments, preparation and analysis of financial statements for sole proprietorship, partnerships, close corporations and companies. It includes a comprehensive study of cash flow statements. Cost and Management Accounting This programme completes the skills necessary for a Senior Bookkeeper. Learners are introduced to the accounting for a manufacturing concern, break even analysis, cost-volume-profit analysis, budgeting and standard costing, financial management and business ethics. Income Tax Returns This programme involves a thorough study of taxation. Learners will be able to compute taxable income and tax payable for individuals and businesses, submit tax returns, acquire a working knowledge of estate duty and provide taxation planning advice to clients.

Business Law and Accounting Control A skills programme in basic contract law, insolvency law, estate planning, internal and computer auditing. Business Literacy The skills programme is designed to equip learners with the basic numerical and communication skills required to operate effectively in business. Accreditation The Skills Programmes are accredited by the ICB. Programme Type The ICB Skills Programmes are Provider Programmes. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent. Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. Assessment and Exam Information You are required to hand in written assignments and write 1 formal exam per subject. BOOKKEEPING I Short Course Certificate Bookkeeping remains one of South Africa s most sought after fields of interest, ranging over a number of subfields. This introduction to bookkeeping includes the building blocks of accounting which gives the learner all the knowledge and skills they require to give themselves a head start in a fulfilling career in a number of bookkeeping fields. Programme Type The Bookkeeping I Short Course Certificate is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent or 3 years relevant work experience is required. Accounting knowledge up to the level of Trial Balance is essential. Course Content Accounting I Accounting II Which Skills will I acquire? The skills and knowledge that you will gain through this course will familiarise you with the following: The petty cash book Bills of exchange Control accounts Reconciliation of bank accounts Creditors Annual financial statements Year-end adjustments: prepayments and accruals, bad debts and provision for bad debts, debtors and creditors control accounts, value-added tax and wages, and financial statements of clubs. Course Duration If you follow the suggested study schedule, you will be able to complete this course within 12 months. Assessment and Exam Information You are required to submit written assignments to the College for marking. Award After successfully completing all your assessments, you will be awarded an INTEC Short Course Certificate in Bookkeeping I. 21

BOOKKEEPING II Short Course Certificate After completing this Short Course Certificate, you will be able to compile and interpret financial statements by applying the basic principles of accounting. These skills will allow you to confidently apply for a position as a junior assistant to a bookkeeper. Programme Type The Bookkeeping II Short Course Certificate is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent. (If you don t meet the minimum entrance requirements, but you have 3 years relevant work experience, please contact your nearest INTEC branch to apply for possible admission to the course.) Accounting knowledge up to the level of trial balance is essential. Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. If you would like to take on the bookkeeping responsibilities in a business or outsource your skills to more than one business, this Diploma will pave the way. Programme Type The Bookkeeping with Pastel Diploma is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8) or an equivalent. (If you don t meet the minimum entrance requirements, but you have 3 years relevant work experience, please contact your nearest INTEC branch to apply for possible admission to the course.)
