CENTRAL UNITED CHURCH Lunenburg, Nova Scotia The United Church of Canada Minister: Organist: Lay Reader: Sunday, June 19, 2016 Father s Day Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum Walter Delahunt Thelma Blinn Email: centralunitedch@bellaliant.com Website: www.centralunitedlunenburg.ca Scent-free Policy at Central United We encourage everyone to recognize that some members of our Church family are very sensitive to strong odours. There is a designated seating area for this purpose. The music for the weekly sung responses (e.g. Gathering, Offering) is available on laminated sheets which are located in the Narthex. Prelude Greetings THE APPROACH Gathering Music: Spirit of Springtime (Insert - verses 1 & 3) ***Please remain seated for the singing. (Sing once) Spirit of springtime in creation s garden, tingling the senses, tickling the earth, sap that is rising where the seed was sleeping, push for a new world coming to birth! Fresh as the rain that washes clean our vision, keen as the wind on Pentecost day, bright as the Spirit in the life of Jesus, bold as the mindset thinking his way. 2 Hymn: Bring Many Names VU 268 Invitation: One: Today is Father s Day! A day to honour our families Embracing young and old, blood relations and heart relations, and church family relations One: We celebrate fathers And honour the spouses that make men into families One: We celebrate fathers And honour the children that make men into fathers One: Ordinary men and ordinary families bound together with extraordinary love and generosity But in families parents pattern their lives after Jesus caring for the smallest and most vulnerable among us. One: Ordinary as they may seem we celebrate the place of men in our lives, in our homes and in our church family And we say thank you for their place of love and care, nurturing and loving as Jesus taught us all to be. (Based on a resource by Daryl Webber Ebenezer P.C., Campbellville, Ont. Gathering Pentecost I, 2013 p. 29) Welcome

3 Gathering Prayer Loving Parent God, your spirit is seen in a smiling baby, to remind us of your creative presence. Your spirit is seen in the inquisitive child, to urge us to ask the simple yet profound questions. Your spirit is seen in a busy parent, to remind us of your care and our responsibility. Your spirit is seen in our extended family and friends, to remind us of the wider family of humanity. You come as a senior, to hold before us our faith traditions. God of all ages and stages of our life, we rejoice in family this morning and give thanks for the richness of this life in all the ways we see you and one another. Amen.
