Talking Sign 24x7 FM Announcement System Description: The 24x7 FM Announcement System or Talking Sign, is a digital recorder and FM Transmitter, all-in-one device, which allows the transmission of a pre-recorded message. The message is stored in its non-volatile memory up to 4 minutes* long and is transmitted with digital quality, over the FM band for reception through any standard FM radio. Although can be used for variety of applications, it s usage has become very popular for selling real estate. A CBC report on the advantages of using such systems by realtors can be watched at: CBC Report on Talking Sign It is a truly plug-and-play device and is very easy to operate. Once you have recorded a message, the device will start broadcasting it repeatedly on the pre-selected frequency. The message can be recorded via either an external Microphone or a Line Input from another audio source. The 24x7 FM Announcement System offers a choice of 7 frequencies on the high FM band or 7 frequencies on the low FM band, selectable though an easy to change DIP switch. The frequency is PLL (Phase-Locked-Loop) synthesized for high-quality stereo reception. Select a transmission frequency, from seven available frequencies, and set the FREQUENCY deep switch to the selected frequency. Please note that the selected frequency should not have any overlap with a commercial frequency. The transmitter allows the transmission on the following frequencies: 106.7 106.9 107.1 107.3 107.5 107.7 107.9 4 4. Extend the antenna completely and make sure it is in vertical position. Set the selected frequency on the receiving device and you will be hearing the recorded message. 5 5 5. You may adjust the volume by using the VOLUME LEVE. Please note that adjusting the volume too high may create distortion over the transmission, and adjusting it too low may lower the transmission potential.. 6. The LED will be on, while the message is being broadcasted. 6
Possible Problems Problem: There is audio distortion on the radio: Solution: If recording through the LINE input. Adjust the volume level of your audio source to a lower level and try again. If recording through the MIC input, try talking farther from the microphone for better results. Problem: "Hum" or a rattling noise can be heard in the transmitted signal. Solution: To reduce the introduction of any AC Hum noise into the transmitted signal from DC adapter or AC line, it usually helps if you wrap the adapter s cable 3 or 4 times around the body of the adapter as illustrated in the figure below. Use some electrical tape to tape the cable to the body of the adapter and hold the cable in place. This usually greatly reduces any possible Hum or noise interference that may be introduced into the signal through the adapter or AC line. Adapter Cable Electrical Tape 7
