POWER OF PEARL: The Farm Beneath The Sea A dramatic adventure documentary, filmed on location all around the world. Estimated run time 90-120 min Estimated release January 2015 Power Of Pearl: The Farm Beneath The Sea is an adventure into distant and remote areas of the world, following the unique relationship pearl farmers have with nature and all that surrounds them. Power of Pearl is a film about the people who dedicate their lives to the preservation of nature's only living gem, the pearl. It is a story about the tight-knit, irrepressible communities that are built and destroyed and rebuilt- at the whim of mother nature- from the dream of renewing a symbiotic relationship with our Earth. With one foot on land and one in the sea, these farmers and their families go to incredible lengths to harvest their crop. They must feed and educate their communities, and brace for the next, ever present typhoon or hurricane, all the while combating humanity's environmental degradation of the seas. From the principals, to the pearl divers, to kitchen staff, everyone on the remote islands we visit is vital to the community's survival. Joseph Taylor, an Indonesian pearl farmer, has a farm in Alyue bay, just west of Papua, near the equator and nestled amongst islands that have been nearly untouched by the western hand. There are over 800 languages in Papua, and each island has it own unique culture, history, and mythology. When Joseph first came to the bay, the nearest village had been whittled down to a mere eighty people, comprised of mostly the elderly and small children. Anyone capable of hard work had to leave to the mainland to earn a living. Now, Joseph s farm employs 80% of its workforce locally. They provide the money for generators and schools on the islands, empower women in leadership roles, and increase bio diversity all by farming pearls. The fish population has increased so significantly that even the local subsistence fishermen can make a profit. People have returned to the villages and they, along with the farm, are thriving. Power of Pearl follows a handful of pearl farmers like Joseph in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia. These Pearl farmers are a talented crew, acting as pilots, captains, scientists, deep sea explorers, leaders, and pioneers in service of their farming communities. The first to feel the effects of rising temperatures and Ph levels in the ocean, the farmers must also police the seas, fighting off dynamite, cyanide fishermen, and pirates. Many of these farmers, now steadfast stewards of our oceans, have come to theses lands from western cities, adapting immensely to become unrelenting advocates for their workers and environment. The landscapes featured in this film are characters in their own right. Some of the most remote and untouched regions on the planet, these immaculate habitats possess an indescribable beauty, of which must be seen to be believed. The film utilizes a combination of underwater, aerial, slow-motion, and vérité footage to transport the viewer into the world of these incredible people and the magnificent ecosystem they strive to protect. By bringing awareness to these devastatingly magnificent places, and the people that coexist in them, we aim to kindle a change in humanity's relationship with nature for the better. www.powerofpearlmovie.com Power of Pearl 2013 otreel@otreel.com

THE FILMMAKERS Taylor Higgins and Ahbra Perry- Co-Directors/ Cinematographers As fate should have it, Ahbra and Taylor met studying filmmaking when they were 16 at the Idyllwild Arts Academy studying filmmaking. Ahbra produced a short film, 18 Minutes, an official selection at both Palm Springs and Cannes. She then went on to study film at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco while Taylor pursued his acting career in Los Angeles. They formed On The Reel Productions in 2009. An educational series enlisted their wanderlusts for a month long trip around the world with the Cultured Pearl Association of America. While in the Philippines, their eyes were opened to a new side of the pearl. The two have poured their hearts and souls into telling great stories, raising social awareness promoting an urgent need for the conservation of marine biodiversity and the empowerment of indigenous women. Kalyanee Mam - Producer While at Sundance 2013, Ahbra and Taylor saw a film that had a dramatic impact on them. A River Changes Course follows three young Cambodians struggling to overcome the crushing effects of deforestation, overfishing, and overwhelming debt. It is a breathtaking journey through remote mountains and jungles, tracing the story of a country torn between the rural present and an ominous industrial future. Who better to bring on to the crew then the Academy Award winning filmmaker herself, Kalyanee Mam. Since joining the team, Kalyanee and A River Changes Course have gone on to win the Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, the Golden Gate Award for best Documentary at SIFF, two Special Jury prizes for Best Director and Best Cinematography at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and they have opened doors for Power of Pearl left and right. Kalyanee worked as Cinematographer, Associate Producer, and Researcher on the Oscar-winning documentary, Inside Job.
