Team Nominations: Team nominations are only accepted via the prescribed nomination form that is available on the VV website. Depending on the number of teams nominating for each grade, ladder position in 2012 season will be taken into account when placing teams into perspective grades. I.e. Top finishing teams may be promoted to higher grades and low finishing teams may be relegated to lower grades. For any new teams that enter competition in 2013, first 5 matches will be considered as grading matches. These matches will still count towards the ladder position and will carry over into respective grade. All requests will be taken into account when scheduling match times however VV reserves the right to schedule matches at its own discretion. 6. Match Format: 6.1 Matches during season: Matches are played to the best of 5 sets, with a 55 minute time limit and a 5 minute warm up time. A set (except the deciding 5th set) is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of 2 points. In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued (if time hasn t expired) until a 2-point lead is achieved (i.e. 26-24; 27-25; 28-26, etc.). The 5th set is played to 15 points with a lead of 2 points. The winning team is still the first to win three sets. In the case of an unfinished set when the time expires, a set will be awarded to the team that reaches 15 points and is leading by at least 2 points in sets 1-4, or reaches 8 points and is leading by at least 2 points in the 5th set. There are no Time-Outs or substitutions (other than normal rotational substitutions) allowed in the final five (5) minutes of any match. 6.2 Competition Points: Competition points will be allocated on the basis of: Win 4 points

FIVB Rules of the game are available at www.fivb.org Players must accept the referee s decision with sportsmanlike conduct, without disputing him/her. In case of doubt, clarification may be requested through the team captain. A team captain must be nominated. Prior to the match, the team captain must complete and sign the scoresheet and represent his/her team in the toss. At the end of the match the team captain needs to sign the scoresheet to confirm the outcome. Protests will be resolved immediately by the competition supervisor as his/her decision is final. No further correspondence will be permitted regarding protests. 8. Forfeits: If any team is unable to fulfil its fixture in any round, it will be liable to pay $120 on top of the following weeks match fee being its' match fee for the previous week plus for the fee of its' scheduled opponent. I.e. the income lost the previous week through no match having been played.
9. Uniform: Although not compulsory, we encourage all teams to wear a uniform, e.g. the same colour shirts/tops. Numbers are not required to identify players. 10. General Rules: All teams must have a minimum of FOUR players present at match starting time to commence the game. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of the first set (25-0). If after 10 minutes the minimum numbers of players have not arrived, the second set is also forfeited (25-0). After 20 minutes the third set and match is forfeited (25-0). Prior to the game starting, all present players full names must be listed on the score-sheet for records. Late players can be added, as they arrive. This is an important requirement as copies of scoresheets may be sought from VVI by our Insurers in order to validate an Insurance claim. If there are more than 6 players present, teams may choose to either rotate players on and off the bench, or substitute players during the set. If the latter option is chosen, the referee must be notified at the time the substitution is about to take place. Each team (regardless of Grade) must have at least one member of each gender on the court at all times. It is preferred that each team has at least 2 females on court at any one time. This is to encourage all teams to include both genders, as it is a mixed competition. Failure to do so will result in a 5-point penalty, per set. If a team does not have a female player on court at all times, that team is not allowed to play with 6 men. They can only play with 5 men on the court. The 5 points penalty per set will still be enforced in addition to this rule. A player may only fill in for the respective team if the total number of players on their side is not more than their opponent. The opposing team has to agree to the number of fill-ins that they are requesting. Optional 5 point penalty will be awarded to their opponent however the opponent can choose not to receive those 5 points. Fill in players can be from the same competition and division. A replay will be called if a ball from the other court enters the field of play. A referee will be provided for all matches. There are no duty requirements for teams. VVI reserve the right to amend the draw at its discretion.
11. Sanction Scale: For behaviour misconduct, warning is no longer a sanction. The first sanction (yellow card) is a penalty (the opponents score 1 point and the right to serve). 12. Referee s Signals: Immediately after the referee s whistle to indicate the end of a rally, he/she has to indicate with the official hand signals: 1st the team to serve, 2nd the nature of the fault and 3rd the player at fault. 13. Service Rules: 13.1 Service Attempt Rule: Only one service is allowed. The server must hit the ball within 8 seconds after the first referee whistles for service. Under this rule, it is not permitted to toss the ball and let it bounce. Once the ball is released for serve, the server must serve the ball. 14. Results and Ladders: Fixtures and results are available online at VV website under Social Comps. Teams are expected to view website for fixture and results information. 15. New Players: Throughout the year, Volleyball Victoria will be advertising and promoting the competitions seeking new teams and individual players, and will pass on the names and contact details of all new individual players to the captains in each team.
