A Collection of Bible Study Handouts compiled by Mark Staller for The Apostolic Faith Church Midwest Camp Meeting 2011 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

Reading the Bible (Geoffry Thomas) Do not expect to master the Bible in a day, or a month, or a year. Rather expect often to be puzzled by its contents. It is not all equally clear. Great men of God often feel like absolute novices when they read the Word. The apostle Peter said that there were some things hard to understand in the epistles of Paul (2 Peter 3: 16). I am glad he wrote those words because I have felt that often. So do not expect to always get an emotional charge or a feeling of quiet peace when you read the Bible. By the grace of God you may expect that to be a frequent experience, but often you will get no emotional response at all. Let the Word break over your heart and mind again and again as the years go by, and imperceptibly there will come great change in your attitude and outlook and conduct. You will probably be the last to recognize these. Often you will feel very, very small, because increasingly the God of the Bible will become wonderfully great. So go on reading it until you can read no longer, and then you will not need the Bible anymore, because when your eyes close for the last time in death and never again read the Word of God in Scripture, you will open them to the Word of God in the flesh, that same Jesus of the Bible whom you have known for so long, standing before you to take you forever to His eternal home. Scripture Intake If you want to be a disciple or follower of Jesus Christ, then you will need to live life the way He did and practice the activities that He practiced. One obvious reason that Jesus was in tune with the Heavenly Father was that He read and studied the Scriptures: Jesus discussed Scripture with the doctors of the law in the temple when He was only twelve years old. (Luke 2:46,47) Jesus quoted Scripture when tempted by the devil. (Luke 4: 1-13) Jesus regularly read the Scriptures out loud in the synagogue on the Sabbath day. (Luke 4:16-21) Jesus said that the Sadducees erred because they did not know the Scriptures. (Matthew 22:29) Jesus encouraged the Jews to search the scriptures. (John 5:39) Jesus quoted Scripture even as He hung on the cross. (Matthew 27:46) We can develop the same type of relationship that Jesus had with the Heavenly Father if we will search the scriptures.

Christ and the Bible The Old Testament asked a question: How can we be right with God since we ve chosen our own way? The New Testament answered it: Through the grace of God given through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (30 Days to Understanding the Bible) The message of the Bible is that Jesus Christ is the one sent by God the one prophesied by the prophets and witnessed by the apostles; the one sent to die for our sins to forgive us, to judge us and to save us; the one sent to reconcile us with God the Father and also with each other. (The Compact Guide to the Christian Faith) Christ is the subject of each of the major sections of the Bible. The five books of the law give the foundation for Christ. The twelve books of History provide the preparation for Christ. The five books of Poetry show aspiration for Christ. The Major and Minor Prophets show the expectation of Christ. The four Gospels show Christ in reality. The book of Acts shows Christ proclaimed. The Pauline and General Epistles interpret and appropriate Christ. The book of Revelation reveals Christ in the consummation of all things. (fundamentals of the Faith) The whole Bible is built around the story of Christ and His promise of life everlasting to all. It was written only that we might believe and understand, know and love, and follow HIM. (What the Bible is All About) Christ is the center and heart of the Bible. The Old Testament is an account of a Nation. The New Testament is an account of a MAN. The Nation was founded and nurtured of God to bring the Man into the world. God Himself became a Man, to give mankind a concrete, definite, tangible idea of what kind of Person to think of when we think of God. God is like Jesus. Jesus was God incarnate in human form. His appearance on the earth is the Central Event of all history. The Old Testament sets the stage for it. The New Testament describes it... As a Man, He lived the most strangely beautiful life ever known... The whole Bible is builded around this Beautiful Story of Christ, and His promise of Life Eternal to those who Accept Him. The Bible was written only that men might Believe and Understand, and Know, and Love, and Follow CHRIST. (Halley s Bible Handbook)
