WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 What's New in QuarkXPress 10 QuarkXPress 10 continues to put the designer at the center of the creative process, giving designers the power to design for and publish directly to print, epub, Kindle or tablet devices on ios and Android platforms. QuarkXPress 10 has been redesigned from the inside out to deliver stunning graphics, virtuoso productivity features and a design canvas to accentuate your creativity. QuarkXPress 10 the most reliable print design and publishing tool is now the easiest, most powerful tool for digital design and publishing. This document provides an introduction to the new features in QuarkXPress 10 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 3

XENON GRAPHICS ENGINE Xenon graphics engine The new Xenon Graphics Engine utilizes the latest processor technology (SSE3, AVX, Multi-core, etc.) to greatly enhance image handling in QuarkXPress. The Adaptive Resolution feature delivers higher resolution without compromising on performance. The new Advanced Image Control palette provides control over channels, layers and clipping paths, not just in PSD files. QuarkXPress 10 now has a deep and rich understanding of PDFs including fonts, vectors, gradients and transparency so PDF transparency can be maintained through to output. New Xenon graphics engine. Adaptive Resolution preview: Adaptive Resolution in QuarkXPress means the graphics are rendered in real time in the highest required resolution to match image zoom, crop and position. Text stays as text and vectors stay as vectors with no more low-resolution previews. PDF Import enhancements: QuarkXPress 10 now reads and writes the data as vector data and it will be shown as vector in the layout and output. PDF pass-through transparency: QuarkXPress 10 manages complex transparency relations throughout your workflow to final output. QuarkXPress 10 retains native transparency from an imported PDF giving you better flexibility in the production process. Advanced Image Control: The Advanced Image Control palette enables users to control color channels and embedded clipping paths within PDF, TIFF and PSD files. In addition, 4 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10

XENON GRAPHICS ENGINE for PSD images, it allows you to show and hide layers, apply a variety of blends, and change the layer transparencies - all non-destructively without impacting the original image file. The Advanced Image Control palette. WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 5

MODERN AND OPTIMIZED UI Modern and optimized UI QuarkXPress on Mac OS X is now a native Cocoa app with a user interface that's tightly integrated with the rest of the operating system including Finder, the Dock, and other Cocoa applications. Users benefit from new OS features and get a thoroughly modern, future-focused application with rapid support for new Mac OS X releases and features. What's more QuarkXPress 10 now supports HiDPI/Retina and you will see a new color theme and a number of enhancements to the workspace including palette docking, Fullscreen view and streamlining of many menus and dialogs. Palette docking: You can now dock toolbars and palettes to the screen edges. Docked palettes on screen edges form a group and can be moved around as a group. The Measurements palette can only be docked horizontally due to its width. The Tool palette can be docked horizontally as well as vertically. All other palettes can only be docked vertically to the left and right edges of the screen. Palette drag and drop: You can drag and drop palettes and merge them into any palette group. Palette window snapping: Docked palettes have snapping functionality allowing you to organize your workspace. In the document window, the resize (+) button can be used to unsnap / snap a window to the palettes. A splitter is added between the window and palette edges so that resizing the palette also resizes the window. Palette auto show hide: Palette groups can be set to Auto Show / Hide. This feature comes in handy when you need a bigger workspace area and would like to invoke palettes on an as needed basis. Resizable dialogs: Many dialogs that used to be static are now resizable. 6 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10

PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENTS Productivity enhancements We have taken all of the feedback from users and focused on many of the small, detail features that can make a big difference to your workflow, such as layers on master pages, print preview, key item align/space, missing font highlighting and more. Open recent files (Mac OS X only): An Open Recent submenu has been added to the File menu. QuarkXPress 10 honors the Mac OS X settings instead of using the DejaVu XT. You can access the recent files from the OS documents (Apple > Recent Items > Documents) and application docking as well as accessing them from the Open Recent submenu of the File menu. Mac OS X menu enhancements 1 Many menus have been reordered to better group related menu items. 2 Many context menus are shorter, without the long list of disabled menu items. Full Screen view (Mac OS X only): You can switch to Full Screen view like many other native Mac OS X applications. When working across more than one screen, palettes can use one screen and your layout another. The designer can focus on the layout without distractions. Full screen mode also hides the menu bar. Measurements palette enhancements (Mac OS X only): As part of Cocoa migration, the following dialogs have been removed on Mac OS X: The Modify dialog, the Character Attributes dialog, and the Paragraph Attributes dialog. All of the functionality has been moved to the enhanced Measurements palette and all shortcuts havee been mapped to the Measurements palette. Print dialog enhancements (Mac OS X only): The print dialog now shows page previews. WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 7

PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENTS Print dialog with page preview. Page Preview enhancements (Mac OS X only); The Page Previews shown in the navigation bar have been enhanced. Open Page Navigation by clicking the up arrow next to the Page Number field on the layout's bottom left. You have the ability to make the previews larger and smaller. Tool Preferences enhancements (Mac OS X only): You can now set the default tool preference for the application/layout directly from the boxes. Set up a box the way you want and then push the box's attributes to Tool Preferences. Paste remembers layers: This enhancement introduces a new setting to the Layers palette options menu. The Paste Remembers Layers option controls whether layer information is honored when pasting or dropping items. When the Paste Remembers Layers option is on and items are pasted or dropped onto a layout, they will be positioned on the same layer from which they were copied. When the Paste Remembers Layers option is off, it will exhibit legacy behavior, all items from the clipboard will be placed onto the currently selected layer. The default setting will be Paste Remembers Layers ON. The setting is applied at the application level and will affect all projects/layouts on that computer. The setting will be persisted across launches of the application. Layers on master pages: Layers are available on master pages. Flip shapes: This option on the Item menu allows you to flip Bezier shapes vertically or horizontally. Apply style sheet after creation: When you create a new Paragraph / Character style sheet from a text selection, it will be automatically applied to the selected text. Element alignment: Allows you to choose a key Item for alignment operations. A key item will not move during an align operation and all non key items will be moved relative to the key item. The first item selected, while selecting items, will become the key item. If you do a select all then the element that was created last will be selected as the key item. Join, Extend, or Close Open Path: QuarkXPress 10 allows you to click an endpoint of an existing shape and it selects that point and goes into regular draw mode, so the next click adds a new point and segment to the selected line. The user can now click as much as they 8 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10

PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENTS want and add as many segments as they want. If they double-click then they finish the line as an open path. If they click the opposite endpoint then they close the path (just like during the original draw operation). While drawing, if the user clicks the endpoint of another open path then the path being drawn and the path just clicked become joined. Using these techniques together, you can begin to extend one path, and end up joining it with another. Resizable, full screen color picker for Edit/New colors: Utilize the full size of your screen to add and edit colors in QuarkXPress. WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 9

OTHER NEW FEATURES Other new features QuarkXPress 10 also includes the following new features and enhancements: Retina ready UI (Mac OS X only): The QuarkXPress UI is ready for Apple computers that have a High Resolution Retina display. Retina display support comparison Native support for more font styles (Mac OS X only): QuarkXPress 10 lists all the fonts with the family names properly. If you disable fonts from the Font Book they are also removed from the font list in QuarkXPress 10. MS Word Filter enhancements: Pictures are now imported from Microsoft Word files and hyperlinks are maintained. Mac OS X file extensions (Mac OS X only): All save /export dialogs support saving files with their extensions. Reordering the layouts tab (Mac OS X only): You can now change the order of layouts displayed in the layout tab in QuarkXPress projects by dragging and dropping the layout name tabs. This setting is saved with the document and the order is maintained. Highlight missing fonts: You no longer need the Usage palette to find missing fonts. In Preferences, select Font Fallback, and request that any text using the missing fonts be highlighted, so you can spot it immediately. Added persistent unicode value to the Glyph palette: the selected character's Unicode value is always visible in the Glyph palette and user doesn't need to rely on the tool tip. 10 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10

OTHER NEW FEATURES Send text to IME for reconversion: QuarkXPress 10 has added support for IME reconversion (for Japanese, Korean, Chinese text). It helps the user to modify the confirmed phonetic text back to its raw state. On Windows, It is available under the Utilities menu and contextual menu. On Mac, it is available through the IME menu. The support is also provided through IME shortcuts and keyboard Enable/Disable EA feature: QuarkXPress 10 lets layout artists work with East Asian typographical concepts such as vertical story text, hanging characters, punctuation character width handling, phonetic text reading (rubi), font sets, character grids, grouped characters, and intelligent font mapping. These features were previously available only with the East Asian, Global, and Simplified Chinese editions of QuarkXPress. Now you can control the UI using a dedicated setting in Preferences. Program language settings (Mac OS X only): Older versions of QuarkXPress allowed you to change the Program Language from the Edit menu. On Mac OS X, this option is gone and QuarkXPress automatically launches in the active OS language, if supported. QR Code creation: Generate vector Quick Response (QR) codes directly within QuarkXPress then style and color them the way you want. Supports text QR codes such as URLs and SMS as well as vcards. Support for Portuguese Reformed hyphenation and spell checking: In preferences you can set an option that allows you to choose to use reformed Portuguese. Updated Pantone color libraries: QuarkXPress 10 integrates the latest color libraries received from Pantone. This update includes 336 new Pantone colors. Enhanced epub export: QuarkXPress 10 correctly converts anchors and the hyperlinks that point to them. This will allow the designer to link from one position in an ebook to another position, such as for a glossary or index. Background color for App Studio layouts: QuarkXPress 10 allows the user to set a preview-only background color in a referenced App Studio layout. Please refer to A Guide to QuarkXPress 10 for details or visit www.quark.com/support/documentation WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10 11

REMOVED FEATURES Removed features The following features have been removed from QuarkXPress 10. Support for Web and Interactive Layouts: QuarkXPress 10 no longer supports Web and Interactive layouts. You will not be able to open legacy documents with one or more Web and/or Interactive layouts. You need to convert them to Print layouts in a legacy version before opening in QuarkXPress 10. Support for Books: Books are no longer supported and you will not be able to open legacy books in QuarkXPress 10. PPD Manager (Mac OS X only): The PPD Manager has been removed from QuarkXPress 10 on Mac OS X. Picture Effects palette: The Picture Effects palette has been removed from QuarkXPress 10. While opening legacy documents that had Picture Effects applied to one of more images, you will see an alert and all the effects and adjustments will be removed. Changes in Legacy document support: You will not be able to open documents saved in QuarkXPress version 6 and below. You need to save older formats in a supported format. 12 WHAT'S NEW IN QUARKXPRESS 10
