What is Yammer? Yammer is an enterprise social network for organisations from Microsoft and works in a similar way to Facebook and LinkedIn. It connects people around common topics of interest. Colleagues can share information, post questions and get help and feedback in real-time. It can bridge distance, time zone and organizational lines. Yammer can also be an excellent resource for departments and project teams involving people outside the Edwards network. Yammer in Edwards In September 2013 an audit of employee communication in Edwards was carried out. The results of the audit highlighted the need for employee communication to be more targeted, inclusive and collaborative. Yammer, which was already being piloted at the time of the audit, is a tool that can help us improve in these areas. Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide 03

What should I use Yammer for? Yammer is Edwards collaboration platform for sharing news, views and knowledge. Share your thoughts! Your colleagues want to know what you think, so don t be shy about contributing to conversations: 1. Share news, links, tips, tricks or insights 2. Ask a question 3. Collaborate with others to develop proven practices, points of views or thoughtware pieces 4. Solicit input, conduct a poll 5. Open discussions 6. Share best practices, suggest an idea 7. Inform others about what you are working on, where you are, or where you will be 8. Have fun! Enjoy and make Yammer valuable for you and your colleagues. Get involved. Share your experiences. Learn what others think. 04 Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide

A Beginners Guide to Yammer Sign up I have my personal edwardsvacuum.com email address To sign up simply visit www.yammer.com and enter your company credentials. Yammer will lead you through the rest of the process. Once signed up, we highly recommend you join the Yammer Help Centre - a specialized group containing information on how to use Yammer (for more information about the concept of groups, check the Groups & External Networks ). The following page contains training materials that cover all aspects of using Yammer as an everyday communication tool: https://www.yammer.com/edwardsvacuum.com/groups/yammerhelpcentre/info I haven t got my personal edwardsvacuum.com email address Our company network can also be made available also for those that don t access their computers during worktime and do not have an @edwardsvacuum.com email address. Please contact us at communications@edwardsvacuum.com and we will let you know more. Check the 5 Yammer Features You Should Use presentation for some useful tips & tricks. Home Once signed up the first thing you will see is your Home feed page; these are posts and comments made by people and groups you are following. Here you can see your feed and send updates to your followers/groups. 06 Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide

Updates An update is simply a message - maybe it s something you have done, an idea, hyperlink or document you have to share or for feedback. An update is public and discoverable unless you decide to post it in the private group (read more about private groups in Groups & External Networks ). When should I update: This is professional network so My cat threw up on the carpet, I have attached a picture is probably better shared with your friends on your personal social networking site. Don t update angry! The only person who will look bad is you! WHY didn t you send that e-mail when I asked you too? You can be a completely USELESS idiot sometimes is not the sort of message that should be shared, let alone sent. Think before you click! If it is critical or a must-read then please use telephone or communicator. What do you mean you didn t make the deadline? I told you that this had to be done TODAY via a direct message on yammer, it s not my fault you didn t check your message in time If you want to be a prolific poster, post something new, exciting and relevant. Keep it short, simple and to the point. If you re writing a short novel, you need a publisher, not Yammer! Tips for Reading: A common social media misunderstanding is that you have to read everything. It s not a book, don t finish on page 10, go away and come back then try and scroll to page 11. Finish at page 10, go away and come back at page 20 and start reading. Think of it like a party you can t listen to every conversation only the ones you are interested in and present at. Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide 07

Profile Your profile is what people look at to find out more about you, contact you directly updates and posts. How much you put here is up to you but the more you have here the more people can find out about you to connect and collaborate. Required fields Please do fill in the following fields at a minimum: First Name, Last Name please use your full name and not a fake name! This is a professional network and although is a more relaxed way of communicating should still be professional in nature. Photo ideally an ID picture Position Junior Quality Manager, or CVC US Team Leader, this is a quick way to get followers who are interested in what you are interested in. Department Expertise name the fields of your expertise so that the others can easily find you through the Yammer search field. The rest is optional. Your Yammer Profile helps your co-workers learn more about you, your background and your work experience, while letting them put a face to a name. 08 Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide

Followers & Discussion Imagine Yammer as the faculty you want to have. Follow people who talk about stuff you are interested in not people who are popular. If a member never says anything of interest, unfollow them! Don t clog up your feed with stuff you re not interested in. If someone posts an interesting comment on a post, click their photograph to see their profile and if their stuff looks interesting, follow them. This is called developing a Professional Learning Network (PLN). Commenting & Like Comments and discussion are what services like Yammer are all about. A PLN defines the context of the discussion and purpose of using a site like Yammer. Be careful not to misinterpret a discussion with your own values or knowledge, a discussion is framed by the PLN. So a group of Remanufacturing engineers talking about spare parts delivery times is in the context of their field of work not a discussion about the broader meaning of remanufacturing even if it looks that way to you. If you are really concerned raise it with them in a direct message or email. Like Like is a great way just to say you agree, use it often. It sometimes means more than a long response in agreement. If you really don t like what they are saying there is a simple solution: Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide 09

Groups & External Networks A group creates a space for specialist discussion that won t always interest the mainstream or that needs to be kept private. Find (or create) a group that interests you; some are private and so require a request for membership. If it s a specialist group (i.e. Field Service Engineers) and you re not a Field Service Engineer don t be surprised if you don t get granted access. Locking a group is a way of focusing the discussion it s not about keeping the content of the group secret. 10 Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide

Send a Message to a Specific Group from Home Page From the Home feed page you can select if your message is for a particular person or a group of which you are a member. Unless you choose to send a message to a group it will automatically be posted to the company main feed. If a message is really only of interest to a specific group it is better to send the message to the group only as this prevents your message clogging the home feed of your followers. External Networks An External Network is an extension of an internal network, but includes invited users from outside the organization. It is a private and secure collaboration space to engage with outside partners, such as customers, suppliers, or investors. While External Networks can accommodate users with different email domains, access is invite-only. For more details on groups, check the Making the Most of Yammer Groups presentation. Email Alerts Yammer by default sends a lot of email alerts. You will want to quieten the noise or risk an unmanageable inbox very quickly. Edwards Yammer - Employee User Guide 11

Recommended settings These settings will mean you get an email once a week that is a summary of the week s conversation and only email alerts for important events. Each group you are a member of also has alert settings for messages to the group, set it appropriately to your needs. Desktop Application You can also choose to recieve Yammer notifications through Yammer Desktop notifier. This can be downloaded at: https://about.yammer.com/product/desktop-application/ Did you install the Yammer notifier before 27th January 2014? Then please upgrade to the newer version available on the address above. Contact If you have any questions regarding Yammer, please contact us at: communications@edwardsvacuum.com or post your question in Yammer help centre at https://www.yammer.com/edwardsvacuum. com/#/threads/ingroup?type=in_group&feedid=2979742.
