Risk Phrases: Safety Phrases: R36 Irritating to eyes R51/53: Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment S25 Avoid contact with eyes S26 In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice Section 3 Composition / Information on Ingredients Ingredient CAS Concentration Spinosad containing: 168316-95-8 2% Spinosyn A 131929-60-7 Spinosyn B 131929-63-0 Propylene glycol 57-55-6 20% Trimethylnonanol Polyethylene Glycol 60828-78-6 10% Other ingredients not individually contributing to hazard to 100% Section 4 First Aid Measures Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Call a Doctor or Poisons Information Centre immediately. Skin contact: Wash immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Eye contact: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Obtain medical attention. Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician or Poisons Information Centre. If available, administer activated charcoal (6-8 heaping teaspoons) with two to three glasses of water. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Immediately transport to a medical care facility and see a doctor. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre Phone 13 11 26 Section 5 Fire Fighting Measures Flash Point: Lower Explosion Limit: Upper Explosion Limit: Suitable extinguishing media: Unusual fire and explosion hazard: Hazards from combustion products: Precautions for fire fighters: HAZCHEM code: > 62 o C (Pensky-Martin Closed Tester) No applicable information found No applicable information found Water, carbon dioxide (CO2), dry chemical, foam or Halon Slight fire hazard when exposed to heat or flame May emit toxic fumes when exposed to heat or fire Wear positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and protective fire-fighting clothing (including fire-fighting helmet, coat, pants, boots, and gloves). If protective equipment is not available or not used, fight fire from a protected location or safe distance. 2X recommended Page 2 of 5
Section 6 Accidental Release Measures Emergency Procedures: Wear protective equipment, including eye protection, to avoid exposure. Prevent spilled material from entering drains, sewers or waterwaysuse absorbent/adsorbent material to solidify liquids. Vacuum material with appropriate dust collection filter in place. Be aware of potential for dust explosion when using electrical equipment. If vacuum is not available, lightly mist material and remove by sweeping or wet wiping. Large spills should be reported to Elanco Animal Health. Section 7 Handling and Storage Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Store in original container below 30 o C. Do not freeze. Do not store in direct sunlight. Section 8 Exposure Controls / Personal Protection Exposure Guideline: Spinosad: Supplier TWA 0.3 mg/m3 Propylene glycol: AIHA WEEL is 50 ppm total, 10 mg/m 3 aerosol only (Safe Work Australia) Use in a manufacturing setting Engineering Use laboratory fume hood or local exhaust ventilation measures: Respiratory Eye Skin and body When using the product Skin and body Use an approved respirator fitted with dust/particulate filter Chemical goggles and/or face shield.. If handled in a ventilated enclosure, as in a laboratory setting, respirators and goggles or face shield may not be required. Safety glasses are always required. If accidental eye contact occurs, immediately rinse with plenty of water. Use protective clothing including impervious gloves Wear elbow length PVC gloves and goggles. After each day s use wash gloves Section 9 Physical and Chemical Properties Appearance: Blue, clear, low viscosity liquid Odour: Earthy Specific gravity: 1.023 ph 4 to 4.1 Solubility Soluble Safety data: Flash point: > 62 o C (Pensky-Martin Closed Tester) Lower explosion limit: No applicable information found Upper explosion limit: No applicable information found Page 3 of 5
Section 10 Stability and Reactivity Stability: Materials to avoid: Hazardous decomposition products: Hazardous reactions: Stable at normal temperatures Strong oxidising agents (e.g. peroxides, permanganate, nitric acid, etc) May emit toxic fumes when heated to decomposition Will not occur Section 11 Toxicological Information Acute oral: Acute dermal: Acute inhalation: Skin irritation: Eye Irritation: Sensitization: Repeat dose toxicity: LD 50 5,000 to 20,000 mg/kg (rat)) LD 50 >1,000 mg/kg (rabbit) LC 50 >1,180 mg/m 3 /4h (rat) Non-irritant (rabbit) Severe irritant, reversible (rabbit) Did not cause allergic skin reactions when tested in guinea pigs Spinosad: In animals, spinosad has been shown to cause vacuolation of cells in liver, kidney and bone tissues and changes in blood and serum biochemistry. Dose levels producing these effects were many times higher than any dose levels expected from exposure due to use. Polyethylene glycol: Kidney effects (decreased weight, tissue changes) Reproductive toxicity: Spinosad: In laboratory animal studies, effects on reproduction have been seen only at doses that produced significant toxicity to parent animals Polyethylene glycol: Decreased offspring survival and foetal weight at doses toxic to the mother Section 12 Ecological Information Spinosad Highly toxic to honey bees, oysters and diatoms. Moderately toxic to blue-green algae. Slightly to moderately toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. No more than slightly to practically non-toxic to birds. Practically non-toxic to green algae. No volatility expected. Does not bioconcentrate in aquatic organisms. Not persistant due to photolysis and biodegradation. Fish: Based on information for spinosad, low to moderately toxic to fish: LC 50 5.94 mg/l (Lepomis macrochirus; 96 h) LC 50 30 mg/l (Oncorhynchus mykiss; 96 h) Algae: Based on information for spinosad, highly toxic to algae EC 50 105.5 ppm (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) EC 50 0.107 mg/l (Navicula sp.) Crustaceans: Based on information for spinosad, slightly toxic to crustaceans EC 50 92.7 mg/l (Daphnia magna; 48 h) Page 4 of 5
Section 13 Disposal Considerations Storage: Disposal: Store in the closed, original container in a dry, cool well ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Triple rinse or preferably, pressure rinse containers before disposal. Dispose of rinsings in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose, clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots. If recycling, replace lid and return clean containers to recycler or designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush or puncture and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the containers below 500 mm in a disposal pit. Empty containers and product should not be burned. Section 14 Transport Information Road and Rail Transport: Marine Transport: Not classified as dangerous goods when transported by road or rail in packagings or receptacles not exceeding 500 kg (ADG 7 SP AU01) Proper shipping name UN Number 3082 Packing group III Class 9 Subsidiary Risk None allocated Environmentally Hazardous Substance, Liquid, N.O.S.
