Tri State Gun Club Montrose, IA Membership Package Tri State Gun Club, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation incorporated in the State of Iowa. Our mission is to provide members with a facility for the enjoyment of shooting sports and related outdoor activities, and to promote public education and youth participation in shooting and hunting activities. Tri State Gun Club also sponsors and promotes a variety of shooting competitions including ATA trapshooting, league trapshooting, informal trapshooting, IHMSA Handgun silhouette matches, 22 Benchrest matches, CMP highpower matches, as well as other competitions. We sponsor Hunter Education training, as well as making our facility available for law enforcement agencies and other organizations. Our facilities are comprised of a 25 yard pistol range with covered firing line and reactive steel targets as well as target frames. There are two rifle ranges with covered firing lines. Once range utilizes berms at 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters. Sighter gongs are placed at the 100, 150 and 200 meter ranges. Other target stands are arranged for silhouette targets. A second covered line is available for 22 benchrest competitions as well as informal usage and has target lines demarcated at 50 and 100 yards. For safety considerations only one of the covered firing lines may be used at any one time. An automatic trap machine (clay target launcher) is available for member use and a voice release control system is provided so that a single member may use the machine without requiring another person to pull or score. The clubhouse facilities, including a spacious, modern clubhouse and a shelterhouse are available for member usage by reservation. No fees are charged providing the clubhouse is cleaned and consumables are replaced. This is a great benefit for members for graduations, family reunions, etc. Club memberships run July 1 through June 30 each year. A prospective member must present an application to the membership for approval at a regular monthly meeting. Cost is $35.00 per year with a $5.00 application fee for the initial year. Annual membership cost may be changed by approval of the members to reflect operating costs. The annual meeting is held each year in August with regular monthly meetings occurring on the second Friday of each month. Officers and Directors are elected at the annual meeting. A copy of the by-laws is available for each member. Members are encouraged to attend all meetings and in particular the annual meeting. The lock to the gate is changed once a year. Notice is sent out prior to the change, which usually happens about the first week in October. Tri State Gun Club is a family oriented organization and we encourage members and their families to use the facilities to encourage safe firearms usage. Volunteers from among the members perform maintenance, conduct the shooting competitions, mow grass, grade the road, spray weeds, clean the clubhouse, etc. Please do your part by volunteering to help when and where you can. We have clean up days scheduled periodically, please make yourself available for them. If you see something that needs attention and you can take care of it, do so. Clean up after yourself. Let an officer or director know if something needs to be addressed.

Safety is Everyone's responsibility. If you see a member or guest acting in an unsafe manner, bring it to their attention. If the problem persists, let an officer or director know.. Remember- it's your club. Safety is the primary emphasis when using this range. This cannot be over emphasized. Disregard of the rules may result in termination of membership. The following rules and regulations are to be observed by all members and guests when using this range: FOUR CARDINAL SAFETY RULES 1. Always consider all guns as "Loaded." 2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. 3. Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are on target and have decided to fire. 4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond (and around) it. A bullet will continue on its path until something stops it. The "Condition Check" Rule of Safe gun Handling Whenever you pick up a gun that has been out of your direct control, even for an instant, open the action to check and see whether or not the gun is loaded. A. Members must have their club ID-card while at the facility. If you are asked by another member to show your ID-card- do so. B. Members are responsible for the actions of their guests. A member must accompany all guests and children at all times. Guests can shoot only under the direct supervision of a member. Do not copy gate keys and give them to others. C. With the exception of formal competition open to the public, any guest that uses the range in excess of three (3) times per year must apply for club membership. D. Any member observing misuse of the range or dangerous practices must report the incident to the Range Officer (319-524-4936) immediately. E. Vandalism should be reported to the Sheriff's Office (372-1152 or 911) for immediate action. F. This is a "Pack it in, Pack it out" facility. Please cleanup the facility before you leave. G. Members are responsible for ensuring that all gates and buildings are closed and locked when entering and leaving the range. H. No fighting or abusive actions or language will be tolerated. Anyone participating in a fight or other disruptive behavior will be told to leave and an investigation will determine whether the participants will be barred from the facility. I.If you break it, fix it. If you can't fix it, call an officer or director so it can be addressed. J. Range hours are daylight to dark for the rifle and pistol ranges. The trap range may be open after dark for leagues, registered events, special events, etc. as there are lights for the ranges. Special training sessions may be organized for night shooting on the pistol and rifle ranges by request. K. Any serious injury that occurs on club property must be addressed by rendering medical aid and/or calling 911 for EMS assistance. Additionally the incident must be reported to the club president. That number will be posted in the clubhouse and at each firing range.

Specific Range Rules 1. Use only one covered firing line at the rifle range at a time. Under no circumstances are shooters to use both covered firing lines on the rifle range at the same time. No Exceptions! 2. Approved eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators on the line. 3. No one is allowed to go forward of a firing line until all guns are safe. No gun handling is allowed while anyone is down range! No shooting while anyone is downrange. 4. During a cease-fire, either holster a handgun (a loaded, holstered pistol is considered safe) or remove the magazine, unload, open the action, and bench the firearm. This applies to all firearms including rifles and shotgun. Firearms will be unloaded with the action open when traversing from range to range, or moving behind the firing line. 5. Store guns so that they are not accessible to unauthorized persons. 6. Target frames are to be used for holding targets and are not to be fired at deliberately. Do not use ammunition that will damage metallic targets. If you are unsure, ask first! 7. Steel targets (falling plates, drop and turn racks, popper targets) are provided on the pistol range. Use only straight wall pistol cartridges to shoot at these targets. Bottleneck or other centerfire rifle cartridges will penetrate these targets or cause other damage. Any person who damages these targets will be required to pay for the repair or replacement of them. Do not shoot at steel targets from less than 25 feet as bullet fragments may be deflected back toward the shooter with the potential for injury to the shooter or bystanders. Do not shoot these targets with shotgun slugs as they will warp them. 8. Steel Gong sighter targets are placed at the 100, 150 and 200 meter berms on the rifle range. These targets may be fired at with centerfire rifle cartridges. Do not shoot any other steel targets on the rifle range with bottleneck cartridges. 9. Do not use glass of any kind for targets. If you use plastic or aluminum cans pick them up afterward. 10.Never fire a rifle or handgun into the air above the target backstops. A centerfire rifle projectile can travel as far as 5 miles in some instances. You are responsible for what you do. Be Safe. 11. Do not fire anything other than a shotgun on the trap range. There is no target berm behind the trap range to contain rifle or handgun projectiles. 12. When through using the trap machine make sure to turn it off, thus rendering it safe. Replace the target release equipment inside the trap house. Clean out empty target boxes and broom out broken targets. A dumpster is on grounds for disposal of trash. 13. Any person violating safety rules or intentionally causing damage to club property will be expelled from club property and appropriate civil or criminal action will be taken.
