Technical Information Fixapret NF October 2003 Crosslinker for the formaldehyde-free, easy-care finishing of textiles composed of cellulosic fibers and their blends with synthetic fibers. Performance Chemicals for Textiles
Nature Physical Form Storage Dimethyldihydroxyethylene urea Clear, slightly yellowish aqueous liquid When stored correctly, in the original, sealed containers at temperatures between 5 C (40 F) and 30 C (86 F), Fixapret NF has a shelf life of at least 6 months. Once containers have been opened, the contents should be used up as soon as possible. Containers should always be closed tightly again after product has been taken out. In very seldom cases, the product may crystallize out slightly during storage at low temperatures. However, these crystals can be redissolved by warming the product up slightly or by adding water and stirring. Properties Solubility Can be infinitely diluted with cold water ph ~4.2 Density Specific gravity ~1.22 (~ 10.2 lbs. per gallon) Compatibility Fixapret NF is compatible with most finishing agents. If several products are to mixed together, it is advisable to conduct preliminary tests to check their compatibility. 2
Application Fields of application and finish effects Easy-care finishing of woven and knitted fabrics composed of cellulosic fibers and their blends with synthetic fibers - Embossed, schreiner and chintz finishes - Formaldehyde free - Very soft handle - Good wash-and-ware effects - The finish effects have good fastness to washing and are fast to dry cleaning. - Good stability to hydrolysis - Very good stability to chlorine in washing treatments Fixapret NF is applied by the padding process at room temperature. The liquor uptake should be around 60-90%, depending on the type of fabric. Amounts used Cotton 40-120 g/l Fixapret NF Rayon 80-180 g/l Fixapret NF Polyester/Cotton 30-100 g/l Fixapret NF Polyester/Rayon 50-150 g/l Fixapret NF Catalyst The best finishing effects are obtained with Condensol N Amounts: approximately 30% Catalyst on weight of the resin Recommended Amounts used Fixapret NF g/l up to 100 100 200 Condensol N % approx. 35 approx. 30 (%on weight of resin) The amount of Condensol N used should not be less than 20 g/l or more than 50 g/l. Guideline Recipe Post-cure IV.Apparel, Knitgoods (Cotton, PES/Cotton) 100-150 g/l Fixapret NF 30-45 g/l Condensol N Liquor pickup 60-70% Cure 10-15 minutes at 310 o F (155 C) For higher crease retention Post-cure Additional Information 90-100 g/l Fixapret NF 10-15 g/l Fixapret ECO 30-35 g/l Condensol N Liquor pickup 60-70% Cure 10-15 minutes at 310 o F (155 C) To prevent odor formation and obtain optimum finish effects, alkaline material should be adjusted to a slightly acid ph before finishing. In contrast to catalysts that contain magnesium chloride, no odor formation is likely when Condensol N is used. Any whitening agents used should be stable in the acid ph range. The prepared finishing liquor should have a ph of approx. 4.0. In view of the many possible influences exerted by the pretreatment, dyeing, printing, finishing and composition of the finishing recipe on the fastness properties, shade, standard of white, strength, white cracking after washing, odor and handle, it is advisable to conduct preliminary, internal plant trials. This applies particularly for white goods and pastel shades, where the standard of white and the shade may be adversely affected. 5
