Script for Administering Computer-Based Tests Polk County Midterm and Final Exams Revised 08/2016
During the test session, remember the following: Ensure that all documented student testing accommodations apply to these assessments; the testing environment must comply with each student s IEP, 504 plan, or ELL accommodations. Provide individual restroom breaks as needed, and maintain the security of the test during breaks. Students should not have access to electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, smartphones, tablets) during breaks. For short breaks (e.g., restroom), it is recommended that visual blocks be applied to students computer screens (e.g., monitors turned off, folders taped to screens) instead of having students exit and resume the test. Tasks to complete prior to test day: 1. Confirm with your school administrator that the Secure Tester has been installed on all test computers. 2. Confirm that a test is assigned to your section. 3. Obtain the test online passcode(s) and print a list of student usernames and passwords. On test day: 1. Ensure that all software applications, including Internet browsers, are closed on all student workstations before testing begins. 2. Write the test online passcode for each test where students can see it. Display the online passcode in a classroom location visible to all students, e.g. a white board. 3. Communicate to students where they can find the online test passcode, e.g., on the white board, or on their username and password slip (if using these). 4. Distribute usernames and passwords as instructed in the following script. 5. Remind students to submit their test when complete. 6. Make sure you have enough scratch paper for all students. Distribute scratch paper before testing begins. Remember that the scratch paper becomes secure and must be collected at the end of testing. 7. Make sure that all students have a pen or pencil to work the problems. 8. Start SchoolNet Secure Tester on all computers that will be used for testing. Today, you will be taking Polk Midterm Exam / Polk Final Exam. Remove all materials from your desk except scratch paper, your pen or pencil, calculator, and reference sheet (if applicable). Please do not type any information until I tell you to do so. You may not have any electronic or recording devices except your calculator (if applicable) at your desk, in your pockets, or anywhere you can reach them at any time during this test session, even if they are turned off or you do not use them. Electronic and recording devices include but are not limited to cell phones, smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, cameras, and any device capable of recording, storing, viewing, or playing back audio or visual content. If you have any devices with you right now, please turn them off and raise your hand. If a student raises his or her hand, follow your school s procedures regarding electronic devices. At this time, ensure that your own electronic devices are turned off. Now, look at the login screen. If you do not see this screen, raise your hand. If a computer is not opened to the login screen, open SchoolNet Secure Tester or move the student to another computer. Please sit quietly while I distribute the usernames and passwords. Do not begin typing until I tell you to start. Distribute usernames and passwords. DO NOT log in before I instruct you to do so. Look at your username and password and make sure it has your name and ID number on it. Raise your hand if you do not have the correct username and password. If a student was provided the wrong username and password, provide the correct username and password to the student. If the name or ID number for the student is incorrect, the student cannot use the username and password. Have the student pause while you look up the correct credentials on the SSO site. Now, on the login screen, type your username exactly as shown. (Pause.) Next, type the password exactly as shown. (Pause.) Next, type the online passcode for the test that you are assigned exactly as shown. (Direct them to where the online passcode is displayed. Pause.) Now, click the Login button, but do NOT proceed past the next screen. Page 3
Pause to make sure that all students have proceeded to the Online Test Access screen. Type in the username, password, and online passcode for a student, if necessary. You should now see the Online Test Access screen. This screen identifies the name of the class and the test, which are (read appropriate class and test name here). Confirm that this screen displays the correct class name and test name. If the name of the class or the test name is not correct, please raise your hand. If the information on this screen is correct, click the Start Your Test button, but do not proceed further. If any students are not in the correct test, contact your school assessment coordinator. For all other students, make sure they have proceeded to the welcome message screen. You should now see a welcome message screen that displays your name and the test name. Confirm that this screen displays your name correctly and that the test name is correct, but do NOT proceed past this screen. If the student name or the test name on the welcome message screen is not correct, please raise your hand. If any students are not in the correct test, contact your school assessment coordinator. You ll have 45 minutes to complete the test. Read each question carefully. For gridded response questions, be sure to check your response in the boxes at the top of the grid before you go on to the next question. Now, I will review how to navigate through the test. Do not click any buttons at this time. You will use the Next button to move to the next question or the Previous button to return to the previous question. Try to answer every question. You may click Hide next to any answer option you want to eliminate. If you come to a question you want to review before you submit the test, click the flag icon to tag that question. The View Test Summary button will show you all answered and unanswered questions and any questions that are flagged for review. Some tests will include an online ruler, protractor, compass, and calculator. Click on each tool icon to use it. The Clear button clears all drawing marks from the screen. The box in the bottom left displays your progress, including how many questions have been answered and how many have been flagged for review. If you need to exit the test for any reason, click the Pause button at the bottom of the screen. A pop up box will then prompt you to click on either Exit Test or Return to Test. Page 4
You may use your scratch paper to work the problems. You cannot use any other paper. If you need more scratch paper during testing, raise your hand. The scratch paper is considered a secure document and must be returned, along with any test materials and calculator (if applicable), before you leave the room. I cannot help you with answering test questions, but raise your hand if you have any difficulties with your computer. If at any time you need to leave the room, raise your hand. Only one student may leave the room at a time. While outside the testing room, you are NOT permitted to discuss or exchange information about the test with anyone. Please raise your hand if you have any questions. Answer any questions. When you have finished, click the Test Summary button and review the Test Response Summary screen to make sure you have answered all questions. After you have checked your work, raise your hand. I will collect your username and password, scratch paper, formula sheet (if applicable), and calculator (if applicable) and help you submit your test. Then sit quietly until the session has ended. Please raise your hand if you have any questions. After answering all questions, Remember, you have 45 minutes to complete the test. I will give you a reminder when there are 10 minutes left. Now, click Start Test Now and begin working. Complete the following: STARTING time: Time for 10-minute reminder: STOPPING time: Display the STARTING and STOPPING times for students. Follow the instructions below for the circumstances indicated: Students have computer trouble during testing - Contact your school assessment coordinator or your network manager for assistance. Certain circumstances, such as loss of an Internet connection, trigger a red warning indicator to appear on the top right of the test screen. Your attention should not be diverted from other students. If a student cannot complete the test on his or her computer, collect the username and password, scratch paper, formula sheet, and calculator from the student and notify your school assessment coordinator. When 10 minutes are remaining, You have 10 minutes to finish the test. After 10 more minutes, AT THE END OF THE TESTING ADMINISTRATION: STOP. Click the View Test Summary button if you are not already on the Test Response Summary screen. Now, click Submit Test, then Yes. Finally, click on Close Test. I will collect your username and password, scratch paper, and calculator (if applicable). AFTER TESTING Verify that each student has submitted his or her test online. Pick up Scratch Paper- this is considered a secure document if used Pick up any ancillary materials if used *If any secure materials are missing, do not let students leave room. Contact the School Testing Coordinator to help resolve the issue. Return materials as directed by the School Testing Coordinator **If a student reports an issue with a question, please follow these instructions: Remind the student that the test is secure, and that (s)he cannot read you the question or answer choices. Ask student the REASON (s)he feels the item is incorrect. Assure student that the item will be investigated and, if fault is found, it will be removed from the test and not reflected in his/her score.
