COP 15 in Copenhagen 2 The crucial climate summit The goal is a binding global climate agreement for a postkyoto framework The conference will take place in Bella Center 7-18 Dec. 2009. 15-20.000 participants expected

Copenhagen s ambitions as host city 3 Copenhagen as a professional host city Smooth cooperation between the city and the Danish state and UNFCCC supports a successful conference Cooperation and dialogue with civil society representatives to inspire and engage the public in the climate work The importance of cities and their role in meeting climate challenges will be highlighted Any visitor in Copenhagen should feel welcome and engaged

Cooperation with NGOs 4 The Danish State is responsible for the overall involvement of NGOs during COP15. The city supports this work in the following ways: Cooperation with national and international NGOs with the intention of promoting civil society activities during COP15 Municipal buildings and squares are lend out for NGO seminars and activities both before and during COP15 Possibilities of cooperation between Mayoral Summit and relevant NGOs on different projects of mutual interest

Copenhagen s climate activities Our three main activities during the COP 15: The Copenhagen Climate Summit for Mayors The Childrens Climate Summit Public events and climate activities at the City Hall Square as well as other squares in the city 5

Set-up When? 15-17 December 2009 - overlapping with the COP15 high-level negotiations Who? 100 Mayors from the most important cities on climate change in the world around 400 participants in total Organized in cooperation with C40 and ICLEI How? An interesting event for your Mayors sessions not like the others 9

We want to.. Create a set-up that is different and effective supporting the idea that cities are acting and nation states are talking Keep the Mayors focus during two intensive days Ensure unique press opportunities Make sure that the messages from the Mayors are given directly to the national states and the UN Ensure that Mayors are seen as creating the connection between the VIP-negotiations and the public (meetings near BC and in city centre) 10

A professional host Communication - an external communication bureau is hired focusing on the international press Organization of the summit - an external congress organizer is hired Transportation - a dedicated bus line will serve the Copenhagen Airport, the Bella Center and the Copenhagen City Hall square Accommodation - hotel rooms reserved for city-delegations situated in the City Centre 11
