E.S.L. English As A Second Language ESL - English as a Second Language Learn English according to Canadian Language Benchmark Standards. By taking our classes, you will be able to: learn basic and intermediate English skills and study basic grammar and sentence structure. practice listening, reading and writing. expand your conversation skills, including use of idioms and phrasal verbs. learn how to use the computer and develop basic keyboarding skills. participate in activities/events designed to further the learning experience. TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language The purpose of this course is to prepare students for the TOEFL test, which evaluates the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. The new TOEFL test will test all 4 language skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - through integrated communicative tasks. No more grammar section! Authentic communication required! Our TOEFL course will continue to prepare students for the CBT-TOEFL and will focus on listening comprehension, structure, academic reading and effective paragraph and essay writing. We will also begin to incorporate strategies for the new test to prepare for the new speaking and writing task types. Improve your overall test-taking skills as well as prepare for any further study or profession. Advanced Class This class, taught by an experienced teacher, will benefit those who need to take a standard test such as *TSE, Next Generation TOEFL, or IELTS as well as those seeking employment in Canada. This Class will focus on higher level skills: Management Advanced telephone skills Interview skills Pronunciation practice Oral presentations, reports and debates Useful modern idioms Persuading, offering opinions, disagreeing, comparing ideas, as well as other rhetorical devices for academic tests and workplace situations *The TSE is being replaced by TAST, the speaking test in the Next Generation internet based TOEFL Locations: The Collegeway ESL Centre, St. Gabriel, and Brian J. Fleming Classes Designed for intermediate English levels and above, this course practices communication skills for daily living, including life skills activities, pronunciation and vocabulary. Students will participate in a variety of spoken activities such as oral reports, debates and effective speaking. Elements of TSE are included. E.S.L. English As A Second Language - Training Course This course is meant to assist students in preparation for the Canadian Test. It provides information about Canadian History, Geography, Government, and the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens. KOLBE GROUP Preparation Course A project of Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and and Immigration Canada, Mississauga office was designed to facilitate the Canadian application procedure and to assist our clients in preparation for the test. The course includes: assistance in filling out an application for Canadian thorough individual check of the application preparation for the test, including two practice tests official test appointment right after the course Deaf and Hard of Hearing Class This class is offered for those individuals with hearing challenges. The class is an ESL and ASL (American Sign Language) class. The student will learn English through ASL and speech, and gain confidence to communicate effectively and strengthen language skills in reading, writing and understanding English. LINC - Language Instruction For Newcomers to Canada This is a federally-funded program offered by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board for adult immigrants new to Canada who wish to learn basic and intermediate English skills. In association with several community agencies, LINC classes are offered at several different locations throughout Mississauga. Class hours are flexible, with both fulltime and part-time programs offered Monday to Friday. For more information call Sylvia Bottrell at the Westminster Centre at 905-279-6816. TOEIC Test Of English For International Communication The test of English for International Communication (TOEIC ) is a multiple-choice English language proficiency test for people whose native language is not English. It measures their English comprehension, speaking, writing and reading skills in an international environment. The sources indicate how well people can communicate in English with others in business, commerce and industry. The TOEIC test, a standardized test giving reliable results test after test, assesses proficiency at all levels (beginner to advanced) in all professional and social categories.
