Electrical vs Electronic Equipment No. Electrical Equipment Electronic equipment 1. Operated by electricity 2. Transform electrical energy into other form of energy like light, heat, or motion. 3. Flow of larger current in circuit (ma Amps) Do much more is designed to manipulate the electrical current to gently or gradually doing useful things such as digital display, LEDs, LCD, produced sound, movies, signal, communications, etc. Flow of smaller current in circuit (µa ma)
Electrical vs Electronic Equipment No. Electrical Equipment Electronic equipment 4. Controlled by resistors, capasitors and inductors 5. Eg. of the equipment:- Kitchen machine, toaster/oven, rice cooker, refrigerator, water heater, fan, washing machine etc. Now often include with some electronic components in them, to make equipment work smarter. Controlled by transistors, valves, diodes and similar components Eg. of the equipment:- Hi-Fi set, TV set, video and visual display unit, audio player unit, etc or namely Consumer Electronic Equipment
Electrical Equipment often being integrated with some electronic devices in them, to make it work smarter. What used to be a simple ceiling fan with its regulator directly connected, now often include with some electronic devices to make it able to be control remotely.
Air-conditioner with electronic inverter improved its energy consumption.
Electronic Equipment Consumer Electronic Equipment are mainly radio receivers, MP3 players, video recorders, DVD players, Hi-Fi set, TV set, video and visual display unit, audio player unit and also office equipment such as personal computers, printers, scanners, etc. Other equipment include electronic ballasted fluorescent lamp, LED lighting, self-ballasted CFL.

Ensuring Safety of Electronic Equipment (Malaysia s Perspective)
Under the Malaysian Electricity Regulation 1994 A Certificate of approval (COA) is required for the importation or manufacturing of electrical appliances or equipment. The type of appliances or equipments refer to are as follows: any domestic equipment; any equipment which is usually sold direct to the general public; or any equipment which does not require special skills in its operation, Approved electrical appliances or equipment are required to be affixed with safety labels before being sold to public.

Challenges
Challenges Different countries may required different set of supply parameter or national deviation (voltage, frequency and plug top configuration). Item Category Detail of Equipment 1 PLUG TOP/PLUG (15A and below) Flat Non- Rewirable Standards Domestic Relevant International MS 1578:2003 BS EN 50075:1991 Two Pole Plug with supply cord (max. 2.5A) 13 A Fused Plug MS 589-1:2011 BS 1363:PT.1: 1995 15 A Plug MS 1577:2003 No corresponding international standard
Challenges Sub-standard, counterfeit, unapproved electronic equipment or equipment with fake safety labels in the market may caused internal components overheated or harmful to users. Approved label Fake label
Challenges Electrical & Electronics Equipment developed so fast. Standards for electronic products may be reviewed frequently. Manufacturers of such products may from time to time required some changes their production process. TV sets in the old days TV sets ini 1990s TV set in 2000s
Desktop and laptop progress much faster Desktop & laptop in 1990s Desktop & laptop in 2000s Desktop & laptop in 2010s
Challenges Household electrical products which are normally connected to power socket outlet have become hybrid products which can be remotely controlled or operated by itself. Such products may fall under electrical products, electronics products or communication products. Vacuum cleaner + electronic devices = remote control machine
In Conclusion: Other Challenges of EE equipment Fast progress technology a new model today will be override by a newer model in within months. Counterfeit products normally lower in quality and production cost, hence safety and performance are being compromised. Secondhand EE products from a country are being disposed to other countries at a much lower price. The receiving countries will become a dumping ground of the exported countries. It is hard to prevent user from purchasing unapproved products because of its lower price.
