Can I apply for family reunion? If you have submitted an online application for a residence permit, you can schedule an appointment after the Swedish Migration Agency has informed you about this. It is important that you state your control or case number. To book your interview appointment, please send us an email on embassy.nairobi-visa@gov.se Normally residence permits are only provided to spouses and children below the age of 18. In exceptional cases you can be granted a residence permit for moving to another close relative in Sweden who you have lived with in the country of origin. For example, this may apply if you are above the age of 18 and your parents reside here. You should be able
to prove that you lived together immediately before your close relative moved to Sweden. The application should be submitted as soon as possible after your relative moved to Sweden and was granted a permanent residence permit. Am I entitled to priority from the embassy? No, you are not entitled to priority from the Embassy. When you schedule an appointment you will be given the first available appointment. The Swedish Migration Agency no longer takes decisions in priority requests. All cases must be dealt with quickly and simply on the basis of facts. This means that similar cases should be dealt with in a similar manner with similar outcome. I have an appointment with you, but I would like you to transfer my case to another embassy. What is the status of my case? Your interview will be conducted by the Embassy or Consulate General in the country of your residence or in case there is no Swedish mission where you live, by the Embassy or Consulate General in the region responsible for handling you case. If you have applied online, your application will first be processed with the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. When you receive communication on scheduling an appointment for an interview, you should contact the embassy or consulate-general in the country of you residence or the Embassy/consulate in the region responsible for handling your case if there is no Swedish mission where you are residing. When the investigation has been completed, the case will be transferred to the Swedish Migration Agency again for them to take a decision. Has my residence permit card (UT card) arrived? I would like to collect my residence permit card from another embassy or consulategeneral. Is this possible? I don t have a passport. Can I get an alien s passport from the Swedish Migration Agency? Find out how to receive your residence permit card here: Sweden/How-to-apply/ If you have provided biometrics, it takes approximately 4 weeks from the decision to produce and deliver the card to the embassy. If you have provided an email address in your application, you will receive an automatically generated email when your card has arrived at the Embassy. You then need to schedule an appointment for collection by sending an email with your case/control number to embassy.nairobi-visa@gov.se. You should normally collect your residence permit card from the embassy or consulate-general where you took photographs and fingerprints. If you are unable to collect it there you can send an email to the embassy and request them to send the card to another embassy or to the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden where a relative who has a power of attorney can collect it. For the Migration Agency to issue residence permits for family reunification you need to be able to prove your identity by showing your passport. Only in very special and rare cases can Alien s passport be issued by the
Swedish Migration Agency. I have a minor son/daughter in Sweden with a residence permit. How can I apply for residence permit to join her/him in Sweden? You can find out more here: Sweden/How-to-apply/ In order for the Migration Agency to be able to assess whether you are entitled to move to Sweden, the child living in Sweden must be unmarried and under the age of 18 years, have arrived in Sweden without parents or any other guardian, or have been left by him or herself after arriving in Sweden and have received a residence permit in Sweden as a refugee or a person in need of protection. How much does it cost to apply? An application fee for an adult is 1 500 SEK and for a child under 18 years of age is 750 SEK. Can I apply for asylum at the Swedish Embassy? No, you cannot apply for asylum at the Swedish mission abroad. In order to apply for asylum it is necessary that you have entered Sweden.
I would like to move to Sweden based on humanitarian grounds how can I proceed? In order to be granted residence permit in Sweden you should have close family ties, have an offer of employment or been admitted to studies. You cannot be granted a residence permit based on humanitarian grounds. If you are a refugee and are outside of your country of origin, you should contact the UNHCR in the country where you are.
