Multicare LE Bed for critical care and ICU FOR HEALTHCARE
The Multicare LE bed offers an optimal solution to problems during hospitalisation in critical and intensive care units. The safety of the patient, support of vital functions, prevention of pressure ulcers, lung complications and suitable working conditions for the staff are subjects to which the Multicare LE responds by its progressive attributes.
Integrated safety concept The Multicare LE bed is designed for hospitalised critically ill patients while ensuring the safety of patients with various risks. The bed offers the patient protection concept which removes the risk of a fall and other bed-related injuries. The key element of the safety system is the siderails which provide protection based on the individual needs of each patient. Further sophisticated bed elements monitor the patient s safety the automatic I-Brake and multi-zone Bed Exit Alarm. [01] VARIABLE SIDERAIL SYSTEM FOR INDIVIDUAL ADJUSTMENT The unique siderail concept optimises care and protection depending on the risk rate and the patient s current condition. If the patient is indicated as being confused and high risk of sustaining a fall then the three-section siderail combination can be applied the standard head and central siderail is supported by the Protector at the foot end of the bed. The bed therefore has siderails that run the entire length of the mattress platform. A bed equipped with split siderails without a Protector provides most patients with standard protection. [01] HEIGHT OF THE SIDERAILS Given the above standard parameters of the siderails (45 cm in height) the bed is compatible with active and passive anti-decubitus mattresses. [02] MINIMUM GAPS MAXIMUM SAFETY The concept of minimum gaps reduces the risk of injury of a patient trapped between individual parts of the siderails and meets the latest standards. Even if the backrest is adjusted the space between the siderails remains constant. The space between the gaps meets the requirements of the EN 60601-2-52 strict safety standard. [02] [03] BED EXIT ALARM The multi-zone Bed Exit Alarm is part of the fall prevention system on the Multicare LE bed. The sensor is activated the moment the patient moves close to the edge of the bed and warns the patient and medical staff of the potential danger and possible risk of a fall. 4
[03] [04] [05] [06] [04] FALL PREVENTION AT THE LATERAL TILT Electronic sensors prevent the activation of the lateral tilt if the siderails are not in the safety position. [05] I-BRAKE Coming as part of the basic bed equipment the automatic I-Brake minimises the risks that may arise if the bed brake is not on. If the bed remains unbraked and is connected to the mains the I-Brake is automatically activated a minute later. [06] NURSE CALL The nurse call function prevents any dangerous situations by calling for the nurse s prompt assistance in urgent cases of patient care. 5
Serving nurses NURSING IS A PROFESSION that comes with a high risk of injury and back pain. The main cause is handling heavy loads patients. The bed s sophisticated functions can make these procedures significantly easier. [01] LATERAL TILT The lateral tilt turns the patient on his/her side with minimum physical effort. This function signifi cantly reduces the physical strain of nurses when handling the patient and removes the risk of work injury and back pain. It saves the time required for performing routine nursing work, provides more effective prevention of pressure ulcers and helps avoid complications in patients with lymphedema and facilitates post-operative drainage. It is easy for nurses to set the lateral tilt and safe for the patients. [01] [02] EASY TRANSPORT The fi fth castor makes it signifi cantly easier to manoeuvre the bed, stabilise the steering direction and makes it easy to turn the bed. Once the bed has been moved, the fi fth castor retracts to the undercarriage. It does not obstruct underpass equipment such as the C-arm, server or lift and cleaning. The ergonomic handles built into the bed ends also make it easier to move the bed. [02] 7

Easier breathing THE PRIORITY OF THE ICU AND ACUTE CARE is to support vitally important functions respiration and heart activity. The Multicare LE bed facilitates their monitoring, contributes to easier respiration and supports the prevention of serious health complications affecting the respiration tract. [01] LATERAL TILT TO PREVENT PULMONARY COMPLICATIONS One of the important tasks of the ICU is the prevention of VAP (Ventilator Associated Pneumonia). The lateral tilt plays a particularly important role in this prevention. The right to left tilt results in the migration of fl uids from the more remote areas of the lungs to places where they can be removed by suction. [02] 30 HEAD OF BED The Multiboard central control panel located at the head end clearly indicates the setting of the backrest to 30 the clinically recommended position for the prevention of respiratory complications. This position can be set with one button on this panel. ORTHOPNEIC CHAIR [a] Sitting up position [b] Supported feet [c] Supported arms [d] Reduced pressure in the abdominal area The orthopneic chair position is designed mainly for patients with resting dyspnea. It combines a high Fowler s position (lungs are in the vertical position), reducing pressure on the internal organs for easier diaphragmatic breathing and allowing better use of additional breathing muscles. [01] [02] 9
Complex prevention of pressure ulcers Pressure ulcers are a complication that can be avoided. Careful positioning of the patient, reduction of pressure on the soft tissues and restriction of shear forces in changes in the bed s position are key aspects that the Multicare LE bed provides for prevention of pressure ulcers. [01] ERGOFRAME The Multicare LE mattress platform is equipped with the Ergoframe system which respects the natural movement of the human body during positioning and acts as prevention against pressure ulcers in the pelvic and sacral area. The Ergoframe extends the space in the parts at risk (the pelvic and sacral area) when the bed is positioned and signifi cantly reduces the pressure on the skin in this zone. Up to 40% of pressure ulcers appear in the pelvic and sacral area. Another major cause of pressure ulcers is the excessive friction between the mattress and the skin, and the stretching of the patient s skin on the back, especially the shoulder blades. The Ergoframe signifi cantly reduces these shear forces between the mattress and the skin. [02] LATERAL TILT Preventive regular positioning is the basic method of prevention. The lateral tilt turns the patient on his/her side with minimum physical effort. This function signifi cantly facilitates positioning and extends the range of positioning procedures. OPEN MATTRESS COMBINATION ARCHITECTURE The Multicare LE bed concept allows the use of a suitable anti-decubitus system based on the current condition and prognosis of a specifi c patient. The Virtuoso active mattress with its alternating pressure is designed for high risk patients. It works on the principle of alternating pressure in air cells. The pressure falls to zero in one of the three neighbouring cells in a 7.5 minute cycle. Equal pressure distribution Ergomatt foam mattresses or constant low pressure Symbioso 100 mattresses offer preventive anti-decubitus effects. All these systems are fully compatible with the Multicare LE bed and can be alternated randomly as required. [01] [02] 11
Support of patient mobilisation Effective cost management THE IMMOBILITY OF PATIENTS causes a number of secondary complications and is an obstacle for speedy convalescence. The integrated system of functions of the Multicare LE bed facilitates the mobility of patients and provides safe area for mobilisation. The Multicare LE bed provides maximum functionality in nursing practice, but also helps to make patient care costs more effective and reduces additional service and maintenance investments. [01] MOBI-LIFT HANDLE The Mobi-lift ergonomic mobilisation handles form part of the bed s mattress platform and provides stable support for the patient when leaving or sitting in the bed. There is a button integrated into the handle which the patient can use to set the bed at the suitable height. [03] INTELLIGENT BED The brain of the Multicare bed is an inner electronic system controlled by several microprocessors. It guards the safety of bed operations, activates automatic systems and ensures wireless communication with the LINIS information system. MOBILISATION HAND-GRIPS IN THE SIDERAILS The hand-grips integrated into the siderails help to actively involve the patient in the process of leaving the bed. [01] [03] LINIS The bed can communicate with other electronic systems. It transfers clinical, working and service data to the LINIS information system for further assessment. This way it is possible to observe selected therapeutic functions and perform remote service diagnostics. This allows quick service repairs at the customer s site without the bed having to be taken away. [02] MOBILISATION POSITION The optimum position for leaving the bed can be set by the press of one button on the control panel. This sets the bed s height so the patient s feet can reach the fl oor and the raised backrest provides him with the necessary support. Infection control Up to 30% of hospital infections can be avoided by suitable prevention. The construction and materials used to manufacture the Multicare LE bed allow easy and effective maintenance of all exposed surfaces. [05] COLUMN CONSTRUCTION The columns consist of smooth aluminium sections and the surface is treated so as little dirt as possible sticks to it. The sealing in the supporting columns prevents liquids from leaking inside the column and electric motor. The construction allows unlimited access to all parts of the bed. [05] [06] JOINT-FREE TECHNOLOGY The smooth surfaces of the bed are free of joints enabling quick decontamination and easy maintenance. The number of small parts in the bed s construction is minimised. The controls are located beyond the reach of patients therefore reducing the risk of their contamination. [06]
Innovation for greater effi ciency The bed s integrated function makes the work of hospital staff easier, increases the safety and efficiency of the work. The simple controls and maintenance enhances the efficiency of the nursing profession. [01] INTEGRATED SCALES The advanced weighing system integrated into the Multicare LE bed is capable of calculating the exact weight of the patient in all bed positions. This yields not just the current value of the patient s weight, but also displays the changes in the weight over time. The system contains the freeze function, enabling addition or removal of equipment from the bed (infusions, transport monitor) without any effect on the measurement of the patient s weight. [01] X-RAY IN THE BED The side X-ray cassette holder in the backrest allows safe imaging of the chest without having to move the patient in the bed. It is equipped with a cassette location system for precise location under the patient and allows imaging in portrait and landscape format. [02] C-ARM COMPATIBILITY The radiolucent mattress platform makes it possible to examine the patient using a C-arm from the pelvic and sacral area to the head. It makes it possible to perform invasive cardiologic procedures and examinations directly in the bed. [02]
