HISTORY OF POPULATION CENSUS First census was in 1927, Second census was in 1935, Between 1935-1990, censuses in 5 years interval, Since 1990, censuses in 10 years interval, Last census was in 2000. As total, 14 population censuses. 08.08.2009 3

SAMPLING METHOD Systematic random sampling for each province separately, Contains two parts: 5% sample of the households, 5% sample of individuals enumerated in nonhousehold places on census day 08.08.2009 6

HARMONIZATION Highly harmonized: almost same questions in each census and same classification For topics: educational, demografic and economic (activity and occupation) variables, Except topics: unemlopment and place of birth (definition improved in line with ILO, UN recommendations). 08.08.2009 7

MAIN LIMITATIONS Persons (except head of the household) who were present at home on census day were listed in the household. Relationships between household members are not available for all members of the household. 08.08.2009 10

MAIN LIMITATIONS Data on household composition is only available for the households in which all members were present at home. There might be a bias for cities (more households with absent members). 08.08.2009 11
