Ústí nad Labem Region Basic information The Ústí region lies in Northwest Bohemia and shares a border with Germany (Saxony), while Prague lies only 90 km to the southeast. It is one of the most densely populated Czech regions. The largest cities in the Ústí region are Děčín, Chomutov, Litoměřice, Louny, Teplice, and Ústí nad Labem. There is one university in the Ústí Region - J. E. Purkyně University. Another five universities have facilities in this region (Institute of Chemical Technology Prague, Czech University of Agriculture Prague, Czech Technical University in Prague, Palacký University in Olomouc, Technical University of Ostrava). The region s characteristic features are a hundred-year tradition of industrial and agricultural production, trade activities and the rich network of transport routes. The region is also known for its places of natural beauty (mountains, natural parks, wildlife preserves), medicinal and mineral springs and historical monuments (stately homes, castles). Northwest Bohemia has been recording an enormous inflow of foreign direct investment in recent years, mainly from the automotive industry.
