T E C H N I C A L B U L L E T I N # 1 1 4 DATE: 26 January 2012 FROM: Autoflame Technical Sales Department Subject: Installation guide for IR Software v5.23 and later Overview: This is a quick guide to take you through the installation stages of the Autoflame Upload/Download software. All versions from 5.23 onwards now include the USB drivers required for the USB style lead in the installation package. Be careful not to install these extra drivers if you are using a serial-to-usb converter with the old style serial lead. Also, please make sure you install these drivers before connecting the USB lead to your pc. Installation steps: 1. The IR software is supplied when a new IR Upload/Download lead is purchased. The latest versions are also available to download from the Autoflame website as a.zip file. If installing a downloaded version, please ensure this is extracted from the.zip before commencing installation. This can easily be done by dragging the IR UD.exe file to your desktop. 2. Once it is on your desktop, it should be run as administrator. To do this, right-click on the IR UD.exe file and select Run as administrator from the menu. This is not necessary on Windows XP and earlier versions of Windows.
3. The welcome screen will pop-up. 4. Following this advice will prevent paradox errors on Windows 64bit versions. However, installing into /IR UD is now the default installation path.
5. Choose your installation destination. 6. Choose if you would like a start menu folder for the IR Upload Download software.
7. Choose if you would like a desktop icon 8. The software is now ready for Installation. Click Install to proceed.
9. After installation, you need to put the ID.bin file in the destination folder you chose in step 5. The CDs with your unique ID.bin file are sent with the IR Upload Download lead. If you are upgrading the software and have changed your destination folder you need to move this file to the new folder as selected in step 5.
10. You now need to install the Borland Database Engine if using Windows Vista or later versions of Windows. Select Launch USB-IR Lead Driver Installer if you have the new USB style IR Lead. Do not select this if you are using the serial IR lead with a USB-to-Serial adaptor as this Driver will remove any previous drivers. Both these installations will run simultaneously. If prompted by the USB Driver software to Modify, Repair or Remove, please select Modify. 11. Once the Borland installation has completed, click Finish 12. Once the USB Drivers have been installed, the installation package will prompt you to do a restart. Make sure you have selected this and click Finish 13. Once your pc has restarted and Windows is running, connect your USB lead. This will install automatically and pick an available Comm Port - in the example below, this is COM5. Try to stick to the same USB port each time plugging the IR lead into a different port will install another Comm Port and can cause problems.
14. Each time you use the IR Software, be sure to plug the USB lead in BEFORE starting the IR software. 15. In the IR Software, check the port setup each time, making sure the correct Comm Port and Error Checking mode is selected.
