DETAILS OF TESTED CAR SPECIFICATIONS Tested model Body type Year of publication 2013 Kerb weight VIN from which rating applies Skoda Octavia 1.6 'Ambition', LHD 5 door hatchback 1276kg applies to all Octavias of the specification tested SAFETY EQUIPMENT Front seatbelt pretensioners Front seatbelt load limiters Driver frontal airbag Front passenger frontal airbag Side body airbags Side head airbags Driver knee airbag single stage single stage Electronic Stability Control Seatbelt Reminder EURO NCAP ADVANCED REWARDS 2013 - Skoda Multi Collision Brake 2013 - Skoda Lane Assistant 2013 - Skoda Front Assist 2013 - Skoda Crew Protect Assist COMMENTS Adult occupant The passenger compartment remained in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated protection of all body regions for the passenger, and for all body regions of the driver apart from the lower leg, protection of which was adequate. Skoda showed that protection of the knees, femurs and pelvis would be similarly for occupants of different sizes and for those sat in different seating positions. In the side barrier test, the Octavia scored maximum points, with protection of all body regions. However, in the more severe side pole impact, dummy readings of rib compression indicated weak protection of the chest. The seat and head restraint provided protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. Child occupant For 2013, Euro NCAP is using improved child dummies and applying a broader assessment of CRS to vehicle compatibility. Based on dummy data from the dynamic tests, the Octavia scored maximum points for its protection of the 1½ year infant. In the frontal impact, forward movement of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward-facing restraint, was not excessive. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained within the protective shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of dangerous head contact with parts of the car interior. All of the child restraints for which the car is designed could be installeded without problem. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing restraint to be used in the front passenger seat. Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. Pedestrian The Skoda is equipped with an 'active' bonnet as standard equipment in all EU27 countries. This system lifts the bonnet when a pedestrian has been struck to provide greater clearance between the bonnet surface and hard structures in the engine bay, improving head protection. Skoda showed that the system worked for a range of pedestrian statures and over a range of speeds. The system worked well, the bonnet providing protection to the head of a struck pedestrian in almost all areas tested. Euro NCAP also tested the car with a normal, non-deployable bonnet. In this case, protection was adequate in most areas tested. Although the score for pedestrian protection was reduced compared to the active system, the car still qualified for 5 stars. The front edge of the bonnet provided marginal or poor protection to a pedestrian's pelvic region but the bumper scored maximum points, offering protection to pedestrians' legs.

Safety assist Electronic stability control is standard equipment on all Skoda Octavias, and passed Euro NCAP's test requirements. A seatbelt reminder is also standard for the driver, passenger and rear seats. A speed limitation device is not available.
