The opening ceremony of the IDT Västerås became a very successful event, with cutting a blue and yellow tape, bubbles, entertainment and games and good food! Thanks to all the enthusiastic participants and organizers! MARKETING AND RECRUITMENTS The communication plan of 2011 is completed. There are communication efforts described separately for IDT s education, Embedded Systems and Innovation and product realization. There is only a Swedish version: www.mdh.se/internt/idt Information in English, please contact Caroline Runius. The recruitment of students for the fall 2011 is in full swing! Most of our programs will make several visits to high schools during the spring semester. And closest in time are the Högskoledagarna 8 and 10 march, when high school students are visiting MDU. In april MDU will have a campaign on Spotify to highlight IDT:s following programs: Production, Design and Logistics, Robotics, Computer Network Engineering, Industrial Design, IT-Entrepreneur and Hello IDT APP. NEW VISUAL IDENTITY An extra effort has been made for Hello IDT APP with advertisement in the Metro and a press release in early April. A new visual identity will soon be presented. There is an update to the existing profile. Fonts and logo are retained while the arch disappears and is replaced by the bubble you see on the left. You will soon be able to take advantage of new templates and also see new fresh colors in our printed materials! More information will come via the Division of Public Relations. EDUCATION A big change for us all is the new system of course evaluations. Course evaluations are strongly linked to student participation that we can read here: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=utf-8&lay out=2&eotf=1&sl=sv&tl=en&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww.hsv.se%2freglerocht illsyn%2freglernaikorthet%2fstudentinflytande%2fkursvardering.4.539 a949110f3d5914ec800061404.html In autumn 2011, we are launching a new master s program. The program is called Innovation and design and will be the link between education at undergraduate level (first 1-3 years) and research. We hope the program will contribute to the IPR environment by providing it with prospective doctoral students. The second major initiative is the one-year long course package Hello IDT APP which will be the largest investment by MDH in education at Sickla/Nacka. Many of our colleagues are working with these two initiatives at this very moment to develop courses. INTERNATIONALIZATION A new semester has started, and the good trend with Erasmus exchange students continues we have registered about hundred exchange students at IDT, more that even at the beginning of the year. Despite extremely cold weather and all the snow they seem to have good time at MDH, with all the courses and other student activities. The selection of outgoing IDT exchange students is in progress, so we will come back with the statistics in a forthcoming newsletter. 2:5
Theadmission of master students is now closed and we have received the first preliminary numbers. Unfortunately, as we expected due to the introduced high study fees (13.000 EUR/year), the number of first-choice applicants is heavily reduced; 65 applicants compared with 390 that we had last year. However, there is still chance to get more applicants, since Swedish and EU students stillhave a couple of months to apply. Furthermore, the number does not include all the student that we admit in alternative ways, e.g., through the agreementsthat we have with some international partners. Finally, we can mention that we have already visited a couple of international student recruitment fairs, and we have hosted several teachers from e.g., Korea, Croatia, Kina and Spain, and we are expecting many more in the spring. We have also had an inspection from the Work Environment Authority at IDT. They chose Mdh and IDT randomly. The inspection went well and we had a small note that the studio in Eskilstuna may be safer.
