1. Call to Order Morris Knapp called the meeting to order. 2. Introductions Morris Knapp, outgoing CASSC Chair, welcomed new and returning CASSC council members to the first meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year. Comments by the Vice Provost for Student Affairs Kathy Maalouf, Vice Provost for Student Affairs, asked CASSC members to join her in welcoming Julie Alexander, new Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and provided a brief background on Julie s education and previous experience. She comes from the Florida Department of Education where she served in the capacity of Vice Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs. 4. Approval of Minutes June 9, 2015 The minutes of the June 9, 2015 CASSC meeting were approved as submitted. 5. CASSC Term of Service and Order of Succession New CASSC Term of Service Morris Knapp introduced the new CASSC term of service. Carol Tulikangas provided an overview of the new proposed term of service to be increased to a three (3) year from a (2) year rotation. This will allow members the opportunity to better understand CASSC procedures and processes in order to make true and effective changes. Motion: The CASSC Coordinating Committee with input from the Academic and Student Deans, propose that beginning Fall 2016-1, the term of service for newly elected and appointed CASSC members will be a three (3) year-term. 2
Rationale: To accommodate a change in service length, all members of CASSC that are up for election or appointment during the Spring 2016-2 will begin a new term of service. The rule that individuals must take a one year break before they are eligible to be elected or appointed again, will be suspended. Current and newly elected and appointed members will be adjusted as follows: 9 members will serve 2014-2017 (additional year) Returning Members 10 members will serve 2015-2018 (additional year) Newly Elected/Appointed Members as of 2015. 9 members will serve 2016-2019 New Term of Service cycle Resolution: Returning and newly elected and appointed CASSC members will serve an additional year. The election or appointment for new members beginning Fall 2016-1 will be for a 3 yearterm. Order of Succession Morris Knapp introduced the new CASSC order of succession. Carol Tulikangas provided an overview of the new proposed order of sucession. This will allow the elected faculty respresentative on the Coordinating Committee the opportunity to provide consistency with CASSC policies and procedures in order to make true and effective changes. Motion: Faculty serving on the Coordinating Committee will serve two-year-terms. As of Fall 2015-1, the faculty representative serving on the Coordinating Committee the previous year will assume the role of CASSC Chair. The new faculty representative elected to serve on the Coordinating Committee will assume the role of the CASSC Chair-Elect and will become Chair the following year. Rationale: To provide consistency with CASSC policies and procedures. 3
Coordinating Committee Nominations 6. Faculty Representative New CASSC Chair-Elect Taurie Gittings-Wheeler introduced herself and thanked everyone for the opportunity to serve as CASSC Chair. She called for nominations and self-nominations on the floor for faculty representative on the Coordinating Committee. The following CASSC members were nominated and accepted the nomination for the CASSC Coordinating Committee faculty representative: Miriam Frances Abety, Social Science, InterAmerican Campus Ximena Baca, Massage Therapy, Medical Campus 7. Support Staff Representative CASSC Chair-Elect Taurie called for nominations and self-nominations on the floor for support staff representative on the Coordinating Committee. The following CASSC member was nominated and accepted the nomination; and was unanimously elected as the CASSC Coordinating Committee support staff representative: Denisse Cabrera, Social Science, Kendall Campus 4

9. Orientation for New and Returning Members The meeting was followed by a brief orientation provided by the Coordinating Council for new and returning CASSC members. 10. Announcements October CASSC Meeting Taurie Gittings-Wheeler, CASSC Chair-Elect, reminded council members that the next CASSC meeting is on October 13, 2015, at the Wolfson Campus, Room 2106. She also asked members that if they are unable to attend the meeting, to send a substitute to represent them. It is important to meet quorum for voting purposes. Mental Health Assistant Grant Kim McGinnis invited CASSC members to participate on the Mental Health De-Escalation Techniques and Behaviors. Training is provided by Habsi Kaba, trainer for all Miami-Dade County Police Force and Judicial System. Training is limited.
