SUPPLEMENTAL LABELING (EPA REG. NO. 19713-60) (EPA SLN NO. OR-090014) FOR USE AS HERBICIDE ON THE FOLLOWING CROPS GROWN FOR SEED: BROCCOLI, BRUSSELS SPROUT, CABBAGE, CHINESE MUSTARD, FALL PLANTED RADISH, KALE, KOHLRABI, AND TURNIP For Distribution and Use Only in the State of Oregon This label is valid until December 31, 2012 or until otherwise amended, withdrawn, cancelled, or suspended. INTENDED FOR USE ONLY BY THE SPECIALTY SEED GROWERS OF WESTERN OREGON (SSGWO) AND MEMBERS OF THE WILLAMETTE SPECIALTY SEED CROPS ASSOCIATION ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Simazine:... 42.1% OTHER INGREDIENTS:... 57.9% TOTAL:... 100.0% This product contains 4 pounds of Simazine per gallon. Simazine 4L Herbicide KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN CAUTION ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS Simazine can travel (seep or leach) through soil and can enter ground water which may be used as drinking water. Simazine has been found in ground water. Users are advised not to apply simazine to sand and loamy sand soils where the water table (ground water) is close to the surface and where these soils are very permeable; i.e., well-drained. Your local agricultural agencies can provide further information on the type of soil in your area and the location of ground water. This pesticide is toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present, or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Runoff and drift from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in neighboring areas. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment wash water. Product must not be mixed or loaded within 50 feet of intermittent streams or rivers, natural or impounded lakes and reservoirs. Product must not be applied within 66 feet of the points where field surface water runoff enters perennial or intermittent streams and rivers or within 200 feet of natural or impounded lakes and reservoirs. If this product is applied to highly erodible land, the 66-foot buffer or setback from runoff points must be planted to crop, or seeded with grass or other suitable crop. Product must not be mixed/loaded, or used within 50 feet of all wells, including abandoned wells, drainage wells, and sink holes. Operations that involve mixing, loading, rinsing, or washing of this product into or from pesticide handling or application equipment or containers within 50 feet of any well are prohibited, unless conducted on an impervious pad constructed to withstand the weight of the heaviest load that may be positioned on or moved across the pad. Such a pad shall be designed and maintained to contain any product spills or equipment leaks, container or equipment rinse or wash water, and rain water that may fall on the pad. Surface water shall not be allowed to either flow over or from the pad which means the pad must be self-contained. The pad shall be sloped to facilitate material removal. An unroofed pad shall be of sufficient capacity to contain at a minimum 110% of the capacity of the largest pesticide container or application equipment on the pad. A pad that is covered by roof of sufficient size to completely exclude precipitation from contact with the pad shall have a minimum containment of 100% of the capacity of the largest pesticide container or application equipment on the pad. Containment capacities as described above shall be maintained at all times. The above-specified minimum containment capacities do not apply to vehicles when delivering pesticide to the mixing/loading sites. Additional State imposed requirements regarding well-head setbacks and operational area containment must be observed. One of the following restrictions must be used in applying simazine to tile-outletted terraced fields containing standpipes: Do not apply within 66 feet of standpipes in tile-outletted terraced fields. Apply this product to the entire tile-outletted terraced field and immediately incorporate it to a depth of 2 to 3 inches in the entire field. Apply this product to the entire tile-outletted terraced field under a no-till practice only when a high crop residue management practice is practiced. High crop residue management is described as a crop management practice where little or no crop residue is removed from the field during and after crop harvest. DIRECTIONS FOR USE It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. This labeling and the EPA registered labeling must be in the possession of the user at time of pesticide application. All applicable directions, restrictions and use precautions on DREXEL SIMAZINE 4L label(s) are to be followed. This labeling contains supplemental instructions and restrictions for use of this product which may not appear on the DREXEL SIMAZINE 4L label. Follow the instructions carefully. APPLICATION DIRECTIONS Apply 1.6 to 2 pints of this product (0.8 to 1 lb. a.i.) per acre in the late Fall when the crop is well established. The application should be timed to coincide with the start of the Winter rainfall period to control germinating annual weeds. A second application at the rate of 1.6 to 2 pints of this product (0.8 to 1 lb. a.i.) per acre can be made in the Spring just after the last cultivation. Use a minimum of 20 gallons of spray solution with ground equipment per acre. For best results, field will have been cultivated one or more times and be relatively weed-free at time of treatment. Irrigation is not required to activate the herbicide if adequate rainfall is received. USE RESTRICTIONS AND PRECAUTIONS: Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 12 hours. Do not use on crop, crop residue, or seed screenings for food or feed. Do not apply this product to sand, loamy sand, or gravelly areas of the field. Do not apply to areas of the field where water will accumulate. Do not rotate crops that are susceptible to simazine injury. For use under this SLN label, do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system. Aerial application is prohibited. Special Crop Use Restrictions The pesticide applicator, the producer of the crop, and the seed conditioner must be aware that use of this product according to this labeling is deemed a nonfeed/nonfood use by the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and is regulated by the Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 603-057-0535, Pesticide Use On Crops Grown For Seed. If the applicator of this pesticide is not the producer, the applicator must provide a copy of this labeling to the producer of the crop. Producers of this crop who use this product, or cause the product to be used on a field they operate, must provide a copy of this pesticide label to the seed conditioner. This pesticide does not have an established pesticide residue tolerance for this crop. Consequently, no portion of this seed may be used or distributed for food or feed. This restriction pertains to, but is not limited to, green chop, hay, pellets, meal, whole seed, cracked seed, straw, roots, bulbs, foliage or seed screenings, and to the grazing of the crop field, stubble or regrowth. All seed screenings shall be disposed of in such a manner that screenings cannot be distributed or used for food or feed purposes, as indicated in OAR 603-057-0535. Additional regulations concerning seed screenings are stated in OAR 603-057-0535. Any seed from the field treated with this product shall bear specific and conspicuous container labeling, or if shipped in bulk, on the shipment invoice or bill of lading. The labeling shall contain the following statement: This seed was produced using one or more products for which the United States Environmental Protection Agency has not established pesticide residue tolerances. This seed, in whole, as sprouts, or in any form may not be used for human consumption or animal feed. Failure to comply with this condition may violate requirements of the Federal Food and Drug Administration, the Oregon Department of Agriculture and other regulatory agencies. Alfalfa Grown for Seed Only/Annual weeds (such as Clasping pepperweed, Downy brome, Flixweed, Mustards, Prickly lettuce, and seedling Shepherdspurse): Make a single application of 1.6 to 3.2 pints (0.8 to 1.6 lbs. active ingredient) of Simazine 4L per acre. Use lower rates on course soils and higher rates on fine soils. Apply as a broadcast spray in a minimum 20 gallons of water per acre by ground application only. Apply between fall (after harvest) and early spring (before spring growth starts). Do not apply if the ground is frozen. Alfalfa may be actively growing, semi-dormant, or dormant when the application is made. Restrictions / Precautions: Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 12 hours. Do not apply Simazine 4L to sand, loamy sand or gravelly areas of the field. Do not apply to areas of the field where water will accumulate. Make only one application of Simazine 4L per year. For use under this SLN label, do not apply Simazine 4L through any type of irrigation system. Aerial application is prohibited. Apply Simazine 4L only to alfalfa grown for seed that has been established for at least one year. Land treated with Simazine 4L should not be planted to any crop except corn until the following year as injury may occur. After the last harvest of the treated crop, plow and thoroughly till the soil in the fall or spring to minimize possible injury to spring-seeded rotational crops. Avoid rotating to crops susceptible to injury from simazine. This pesticide is toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Simazine 4L should not be used under this SLN label where impact on listed threatened or endangered species is likely. You may refer to the WSDA Endangered Species Program web site at http://agr.wa.gov/pestfert/natresources/endangspecies.aspx, or contact the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries) or US Fish & Wildlife Service for information regarding aquatic species listed as threatened or endangered. Consult the federal label for additional restrictions and precautions to protect aquatic organisms. Product may not be mixed/loaded, or used within 50 feet of all wells, including abandoned wells, drainage wells, and sink holes. All alfalfa seed screenings shall be disposed of in such a way that they cannot be distributed or used for human food or animal feed. The seed conditioner shall keep records of screening disposal for three years from the date of disposal and shall furnish the records to the WSDA immediately upon request. Conditioner disposal records shall consist of documentation of on-farm disposal, disposal at a controlled dumpsite, incinerator, composter, or other equivalent disposal site and shall include the lot numbers, amount of material disposed of, the growers(s), and the date of disposal. No portion of the alfalfa plant, including but not limited to green chop, hay, pellets, meal, whole seed, cracked seed, roots, bulbs, leaves and seed screenings may be used or distributed for food or feed purposes. Alfalfa seed shall bear a tag or container label which forbids the use of the seed for human consumption or animal feed. Alfalfa seed may not be distributed for human consumption or animal feed. WSDA Container Disposal Guidance: Pesticide containers must be properly cleaned prior to disposal. The best time to clean empty pesticide containers is during mixing and loading, because residue can be difficult to remove after it dries. Triple or Pressure rinse the pesticide container, empty all pesticide rinse water into the spray tank, and apply to a labeled crop or site. Recycling cleaned containers is the best method of container disposal. Information regarding the recycling of empty and cleaned plastic pesticide containers in Washington is available on the WSDA Waste Pesticide Program web site at http://agr.wa.gov/pestfert/pesticides/wastepesticide.aspx. Cleaned containers may also be disposed of in a sanitary landfill, if permitted by the county. Burning is not a legal method of container disposal in Washington.
