Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology Inc. Sustainability Report 2012 1. Welcome Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology Inc. is a semiconductor preprocessing manufacturer. Since the establishment in 2007, we have been working toward manufacturing with less environmental load. We established an environmental management system in 2007 and acquired ISO14001 Fujitsu Group integrated certification. As our company's main environmental activities, we introduced scrubber systems to greatly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, such as perfluorocarbons (PFCs) in 2010. In 2011, all employees worked on energy-saving in response to a power saving request due to the electric power supply shortage. We continue to work to prevent global warming and reduce waste emissions and other environmental loads. Furthermore, we will promote activities that contribute to local communities and conserve biodiversity. The production line was damaged on March 11, 2011, together with Fujitsu Semiconductor Aizuwakamatsu Plant, which shares the same site with us, but the diligent efforts of our staff enabled us to restore operations early, ahead of other companies. This success greatly increased our customers confidence in us. As a member of the community, this plant will join in with that community to pursue environmental management, based on our awareness of the importance of environmental activities. We hope you will read this Environmental Report, as it is our tool for sharing information about our environmental activities. President Hitoshi Hori Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology Inc. 2. Aim and Achievement in Environmental Activities Report on objectives and results of activities in 2011 Since 2010, Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited Aizuwakamatsu Plant and Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology Inc., which share the same site, have being pursuing joint environmental activities. The following activity objectives are for the two businesses together. All objectives were achieved in 2011. Results were particularly notable in activities for the prevention of global warming. Objectives in 2011 Results Achievement Status Reduce the emission of CO2 by 43.4% or more, compared to the result in 2007 50.5% reduction through air conditioning improvements Suppress the emission of greenhouse gases other than CO2 (PFCs) by 24.0% or lore, compared to the result in 1995 Reduce emission of priority chemical substances (IPA) by 63.1 % or more, compared to the result in 2007 Reduce the amount of wastes by 61.7% or more, compared to the result in 2007 Implement three activities for environmental and social contribution, and four activities for biodiversity conservation 27.2% reduction through the introduction of scrubbers 63.9% reduction through the installation of new equipment and process changes 67.7% reduction by promoting conversion of waste to valuable substances 3 activities for environmental and social contribution and 4 activities for biodiversity conservation Implemented * In the Wakamatsu area, we integrated with Fujitsu Semiconductors and Fuji Semiconductor Technologies for these activities, starting in 2010. Figures in the table are combined values for two companies. Objectives of activities in 2012 2012 is the last year of the 6th Fujitsu Group Environment Action Plan. The environment of investment is still severe, but we are still working on measures against global warming (CO2/PFC reduction), mainly consisting of power saving, as well as waste reduction, biodiversity conservation activities, and other efforts. Objectives in 2012 Reduce the CO2 emission by 48.5% or more, compared to the result in 2007 Reduce the emission of greenhouse gases other than CO2 (PFCs) by 19.8% or more, compared to the result in 1995 Reduce the emission of priority chemical substances (IPA) by 66.5%, compared to the result in 2007 Reduce the amount of wastes by 63.2% or more, compared to the result in 2007 Implement 4 activities for environmental and social contribution, and 4 activities for biodiversity conservation Page 2/6
4. Green Factories Main examples of improvements in 2011 Green process activity Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology develops green process activities that reduce costs and the environmental load by reducing the amount of chemical substances used in the production process. In 2011, we achieved a major reduction in usage by switching our exfoliation fluid, which has a major environmental impact, from batch type to wafer type. Power saving by introducing LED fluorescent lamps 40 W fluorescent lamps in clean room maintenance area, business office, and common area in the factory were changed to LED to reduce 1,025 MWH/year (crude oil equivalent: 255 kl) of electric power. Moreover, the lighting in access aisles was reduced to the minimum. The lighting became slightly dark, however, all employees were happy with the power saving. Reduction of fluorescent lamps in access aisles 5. Environmental Social Contribution Activity LED fluorescent lamps were replaced by our company In addition to cleaning around our plants, we are keen participants in local cleaning activities, which deepen links with the community. We present our environmental activities to the citizens of Aizuwakamatsu through ongoing exhibitions at the Environmental Festival, which is staged by the city. Cleanup activities around the plant Participation in community cleaning activities 6. Environmental Education / Environmental Awareness Activities Presentation at the Environment Festival (State minister for the environment Hosokawa visited) We hold environmental seminars and environmental facility field trips for improving the environmental awareness of employees. We also issued "Environment Kawara Ban" for transmitting information on environmental activities and worked for "green curtains" and removal of vending machines" as measures for power saving. 7. Efforts for Safe and Secure Plants We perform periodic environmental analyses, in compliance with applicable environmental laws and ordinances, to prevent the occurrence of environmental risks. In 2011, we monitored the function of a newly constructed enhanced street gully, which was installed near the boundary of the site. We also run regular health and safety patrols, implement risk assessments in all workplaces, hold safety conferences with partner companies (58 companies), and other measures to maintain and improve a safe workplace environment. Street gully monitoring Local Safety Conference with partner companies 8. Compliance with Environment-Related Rules and Regulations We periodically check changes of regulations, codes, and compliance. In 2011, there was no violation of laws and regulations. For the environmental analysis of discharge water from factories, we have not detected any values in excess of prefectural ordinances. 9. Environmental Accounting We work to reduce the amount of chemicals used for wafer processing of semiconductors as green process activities for promoting the effective use of resources. 2011 Environmental accounting results table (unit: million yen) Item Scope Cost Outcome Costs and outcomes within the operation area Costs and outcomes in upstream and downstream processes Management activity costs and outcomes Research and development and solution business costs and outcomes Preventing pollutions, preserving the global environment, recycling resources, etc. Waste product recycling, green procurement, etc. ISO14001, environmental education, environmental public relations, etc. Research of environmentally friendly technology for products, etc. 213.7 216.9 9.7 0.5 Social activity costs and outcomes Handling environmental damage costs and outcomes Donation to and support of environmental preservation groups, etc. Restoration from soil and groundwater contamination, etc. Total 223.4 217.4 10. Environmental Management Systems Integrated certification The Fujitsu Group acquired ISO14001 integrated certification, which applies to Fujitsu and its linked companies, in March 2005. In 2006, we expanded the scope of integration further, to global integration that includes all linked overseas companies. Date of acquisition of Fujitsu Group World-Wide integrated certification March 23, 2006 Certificate number: EC98J2005 Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology was evaluated as being compliant with ISO14001:2004 based on the results of an update check by the Japan Audit and Certification Organization (JACO) in December 2011. Internal environmental auditing Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology conducts internal audits every year to obtain an overall understanding of the status of environmental load and preservation and to evaluate the state of compliance with ISO14001.
