The SQL language will be used extensively in exploring and querying databases. Students will receive extensive hands-on skills for designing, analyzing and implementing a relational database using Oracle. Prerequisite: CITP 3310 (Survey of Programming Languages) or equivalent, or consent of instructor.

2 Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to: Master the essential concepts of Relational database model. Write database queries in SQL language. Design and Implement a database using Oracle. Gain substantial knowledge on Relational database design technologies. Enhance problem solving skills for the development of a relational database system. Course Requirements Students are responsible for all reading material. Students are expected to complete all module labs and e-labs described in the Assignment Outline. Exams will not be retaken. Missed exams will be rescheduled with the instructor. The instructor may drop the student at the point when, in the instructor's opinion, the student would have difficulty completing the course. It is still the student's responsibility to officially drop from the class. A grade of F may result from failure to comply with this requirement. All student assignments must provide logical support for their selection of case and information technology tool. Personal quality applications: Individual and group assignments require the student to set goals, practice self-management, and monitor progress. To aid in the development of social acumen, self-responsibility, self-direction, integrity, and honor, students must respect their fellow students by arriving to class on time, attending each assigned class meeting, and participating actively in class and group discussions and assignments. If a student is unable to attend class and or is unable to meet with their assigned group, the student contacts the instructor or group leader as appropriate.

Technology Students must use class time and facility resources efficiently as they accomplish their assigned tasks. Student individual and teamwork assignments must follow a schedule given on the first day of class. Teamwork tasks are a major component of assignments and student evaluation. Students are tasked and measured during the group assignment on their ability to incorporate their acumen and civic virtue (i.e., self-responsibility, willingness to compromise, and community commitment). Student must become familiar with the main role of information technologies in the management of business. Students must acquire a basic knowledge of information technology tools for management and ability to work with some of them. Students develop the understanding that technologies in general, and information technologies, in particular, are complex techno macro and micro social systems. The student casework project seeks to highlight the human, technical, and managerial factors involved in all technology projects.

5 Select Technology Apply Technologies Maintain and Troubleshoot Equipment The delivery of the course content and student assignments require and make full use of all information technology services available at STC. Furthermore, the student casework project requires the use of a specific information technology in an organization. *U.S. Department of Labor Secretary s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS Information): Attendance Policy: According to STC Catalog 2007-2008 Students are expected to attend all classes regularly. If you miss any meetings, it is your responsibility to get lecture notes from another student. It is the student s responsibility to communicate with the instructor concerning any absence as soon as possible, whether before the absence or immediately after returning to class. NO MAKE-UP EXAMS will be given and no late lab assignments will be accepted. Roll call will be taken at beginning or end of class. A student will be dropped from class after having 3 absences. Very Important to attend class!!!!! The instructor may also count you absent if you leave the class early without prior permission from the instructor. The instructor may drop the student at the point when, in the instructor s opinion, the student would have difficulty completing the course. It is still the student s responsibility to officially drop from the class. A grade of F may result from failure to comply with this requirement. Students caught cheating during lecture tests or lab exams will be given an automatic F in the course. This applies to both the helper and the cheater. No computer games are allowed in the computer lab. Cellular phones and beepers are allowed in the classroom, but place in vibrate/silent mode or turn it off. NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed in the classroom/computer lab. The use of the Internet for purposes other than class assignments is strictly prohibited. If you are caught using the Internet, you'll be asked to leave the classroom. Other Material: 1 GB USB drive or higher.

6 Developmental Studies Policy Statement: The College's Developmental Education Plan requires students who have not met the college-level placement standard on an approved assessment instrument in reading, writing, and/or mathematics to enroll in Developmental Studies courses including College Success.
