Course Name: Advanced Web Design 2. Course #: CITP Catalog Course Description: This course will introduce the paradigm of web development by utilizing server-side technology. Data-driven web applications will be created by applying programming, security, and database management techniques. Topics include, but are not limited to, dynamic web page generation, basic web server configuration and database connectivity. 4. Prerequisites: CITP 3310 and ITSE 1411 or COSC Program Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to competently write and present a project proposal, progress report and summary as well as answering reasonable questions regarding their work. Students will be able to determine the proper tools and possible approaches required to develop a solution to a particular problem and be able to competently explain or justify their choices when necessary. Students will be able to design a workable solution to a problem given a preselected set of tools and explain their methodology in developing the solution. Students will be able to correctly implement a solution to a problem based on preexisting design. 6. Course Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to design and develop dynamic web pages utilizing server-side technology. Students will be able to develop data-driven web applications by applying database management techniques. Students will be able to apply programming techniques in the development of web applications. Students will be able to implement security techniques in web applications. 7. Departmental Course Requirements, Evaluation Methods, and Grading Criteria: Course Requirements: Attendance: As in the workplace, the student is responsible for being physically present in class unless serious circumstances prevent attendance. Students are permitted 3 absences for any reason. The student will be dropped upon the 4 th absence. Students must contact the instructor via prior to the class session following the missed class session. Refer to the Attendance Policy as stated in the STC Catalog (Pg. 42) for the complete attendance policy. Cell Phones / Pagers / Beepers: Cellular phones are allowed in class ONLY if they are kept in the vibrating or silent mode at all times throughout the class. Otherwise, cellular phones are to be turned off completely at all times. No calls are to be received or made in the classroom at any time while class is in session. Note: During examination times, a student is not allowed to answer or make any calls using a regular campus/pay phone or cellular phone until they are completely finished with their exam. Students Success: In an effort to ensure your success in this course, I strongly suggest that you spend extra time outside of class reviewing class notes, reading your textbook and taking that extra effort to familiarize yourself with course content.

2 Oral Communication: Students will engage in oral communication while presenting a hands-on driven individual project. Teaching Method: Lecture, homework, in-class/out-of-class assignments/exercises, presentations, and team/individual projects will be used to aid in understanding and applying advanced web design techniques. Individual project: Throughout the session, students will engage in an individual project in order to get extensive hands-on experience and be able to experience real-world scenarios as it relates to advanced web design methodologies. Projects from employers are acceptable. The end result should be an actual working prototype as it relates to the course. More will be discussed about the project. As for individual projects, the student will have the opportunity to take the role of a consultant (internal or external) to develop a complete website or component of a website as it relates to advanced web design techniques. While doing such projects, students will have opportunities to get comprehensive hands-on experience as it occurs in the real-world environment of advanced web-design. To aid in the development of social acumen, self-responsibility, self-direction, integrity, and honor, students must respect their fellow students by arriving to class on time, attending each assigned class meeting, and participating actively in class and group discussions and assignments. If a student is unable to attend class and or is unable to meet with their assigned group, the student contacts the instructor or group leader as appropriate.

Student individual and teamwork assignments must follow a schedule given on the first day of class. Teamwork tasks are a major component of assignments and student evaluation. Students are tasked and measured during the group assignment on their ability to incorporate their acumen and civic virtue (i.e., self-responsibility, willingness to compromise, and community commitment). Student must become familiar with the main role of information technologies in the management of business. Students must acquire a basic knowledge of information technology tools for management and ability to work with some of them. Students develop the understanding that technologies in general, and information technologies, in particular, are complex techno macro and micro social systems. The student casework project seeks to highlight the human, technical, and managerial factors involved in all technological projects. The delivery of the course content and student assignments require and make full use of all information technology services available at STC. Furthermore, the student casework project requires the use of a specific information technology in an organization.
