ICT Networking Event, Tunis - Tunisia Idea title: The use of big data services to manage and preserve marine fisheries resources Related Objective :Big Data PPP: cross-sectorial and crosslingual data integration and experimentation (ICT-14-2016-2017) RACHIDA HOUSSA Institut National de Recherche Halieutique Morocco The MED-Dialogue project (611433) is co-funded by the European Community's ICT Programme under FP7
Excellence: Relation to the work programme TOPIC : Big Data PPP: cross-sectorial and cross-lingual data integration and experimentation Topic identifier: ICT-14-2016-2017 ( http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/ h2020/topics/5093-ict-14-2016-2017.html) Type of action: IA. Innovation action Specific Challenge:across different sectors, data has been collected and used for a certain purpose. There is no developed data sharing and linking culture. The challenge is to break these barriers and to foster exchange, linking and re-use, as well as to integrate data assets from multiple sectors and across languages and formats. Expected impact: Data integration activities will simplify data analytics carried out over datasets independently produced by different companies and shorten time to market for new products and services. Substantial increase in the number and size of data sets processed and integrated by the data integration activities. 2
Excellence: Objectives Idea motivation Monitoring of spatial distribution and stocks evaluation of fisheries Resources by the National Institute of fisheries research Monitoring of commercial fishing by The National fisheries Office Monitoring the activity of fishing vessels by the ministry Several organizations are involved in the management of the fisheries sector. Traditionally, each organization collect data and use it for its own work. BUT for stock assessment, we need all these information. Therefore, there is a lack of agreed standards and formats. In addition, data can appears in many terminology. For this we lose a lot of time to harmonize this information 3
Excellence: Objectives Idea motivation Efforts and significant investments are used regionally Oceanographic observatory of Morocco Scientific local program At the regional level, we need to unify our efforts in organizing and sharing information to make action plans for conservation of fishery resources and provide climate change vulnerabilities throughout the region and its sub-regions. Excellence: Objectives Objectives The idea is to approve exchange, linking and re-use integrated data from multiple organizations and neighboring countries with different typologies and formats. The challenge is to create a platform, where not only data can be shared but also knowledge and technologies. 5
