Online Literacy Solution Failure Free Reading is a research-proven, language development and reading comprehension program founded in 1988. It has been implemented in 1000 s of schools across the United States with 10 s of 1000 s of students. Failure Free Reading presents age appropriate materials within a multi-sensory format using practices based on direct instruction and meta-cognitive strategies. America s #1 Literacy Alternative. Helping Schools Meet the President s Goal. Our Mission- Wipe Out Illiteracy. The Failure Free Reading program has a remarkable 85% or higher success rate with lowest literacy readers. The program s primary goal is to give lowest literacy readers the immediate opportunity to improve their vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The program targets and is most effectively used with at-risk, phonetically deaf, ESL, special education and other students in the lowest 20% of the reading population especially those identified by Torgesen (2000) as treatment resisters those who do not respond to traditional remedial techniques.
Methodology Controls The Failure Free Reading talking software is specially designed to give low literacy students a successful reading experience. It contains unique controls that are not typically found in traditional reading materials. Failure Free Reading controls for adequate repetition, appropriate sentence structure, and meaningful story content. These controls enable students to work at higher levels than typical instructional materials. Adequate Repetition Students with exceptional needs typically require more pronounced contacts with new vocabulary. Research indicates that they require a minimum of 75 100 exposures for mastery of new language and reading content. Traditional reading and language materials do not provide for this amount of exposure, and students who make satisfactory progress using traditional materials have no need for Failure Free Reading s specialized strategies. Failure Free Reading provides for this necessary level of exposure. Moreover, it does so within a consistent and easy-to-use multi-contextual format that employs talking software. This is not a drill and kill program. Appropriate Sentence Structure Most beginning reading programs ignore the importance of sentence structure. The syntactical patterns in much of the content are too complex for most exceptional students. Even the beginning stories in most traditional reading programs are written using complex structures such as embedded clauses and phrases as well as negative, passive, and interrogative sentences. Failure Free Reading is the only program that controls for the variable of syntax within a meaningful context. Complex sentence structures are kept to a minimum, and initial stories are written in the easiest form of syntactic comprehension simple, active, positive, and declarative. Meaningful Story Content Students with exceptional needs have great difficulty with semantics, also. Failure Free Reading prevents student confusion by controlling for such variables as words with multiple meanings; idiomatic expressions; figurative speech; and uncommon names, dates, and places. Nothing is taken for granted. In addition, the stories have a high degree of relevance for these students. Books at the remedial level are about everyday activities and events that they are likely to have experienced. Lessons at the accelerated level concern life skills or older pursuits, such as shopping at the mall or taking a train ride.
