Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate 2 ENTERPRISE AND EMPLOYABILITY CHALLENGE PURPOSE The purpose of the Enterprise and Employability Challenge is to develop learners skills, whilst providing opportunities for learners to develop enterprising skills and attributes and enhance employability. During the Enterprise and Employability Challenge learners will explicitly develop skills in Digital Literacy, Creativity and Innovation and Personal Effectiveness and apply them in an appropriate manner. BRIEF Deciding on your future destination can be a daunting aspect. You need to consider what you really want to achieve in a career without being influenced by your peers decisions or opting for a path of least resistance. When it comes to identifying the right pathway to a career, there is much preparation to do and many decision to be made. The job market can be a competitive place and you need to stand out from other candidates. In preparation to apply and secure a job, you will need to gain a clear understanding of what is involved and know how to promote yourself so that you impress potential employers. You will need to identify, reflect on and develop the skills, attributes and experiences necessary for your chosen destination. Experiencing an innovation project that higher education or a workplace might set, provides an opportunity to develop and demonstrate a wide range of skills, qualities and attributes. You will also need to take into account additional factors such as the job market, recruitment procedures, your lifestyle expectations and the part played by managing personal finances in pursuit of your chosen destination. By creating a digital Destination Passport you will be able to gather and showcase the skills, attributes, experiences and qualifications higher education and employers are looking for. By focusing on your future ambitions you can tailor the Destination Passport to match your career aspirations. TASKS Evidence from all the tasks must be presented in your Destination Passport. 1. Skills Audit A Skills Audit will establish the starting point, by identifying the skills and attributes you already have and those which need to be developed. Produce an A4 pen portrait, highlighting your skills, competencies and attributes. (Sharing your pen portrait with others could be the basis of selecting teams for task 2 Innovation Venture)

Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate 3 2. Innovation Venture Working as an individual or as part of a team (consisting of 3-6 members) over a period of at least eight weeks, develop an innovative concept/idea and formulate an Innovation Proposal for a given outcome. In formulating the Innovation Proposal you will be developing and reflecting on your skills identified in your Skills Audit. The Innovation Proposal should include: summary of innovation concept/idea; establishing roles and responsibilities: skills audit and allocation of roles; ideas generation: potential ideas, appraisal of ideas and rationale for decisions made; implementation of the selected idea: market research, resource and financial implications; individual or team schedule: establishing roles and responsibilities, tasks, priorities and goals; design: illustrations or a prototype of the innovation concept/idea; Presentation of the innovation proposal including evaluation and justification of fitness for purpose. The presentation, in whatever format, should be delivered to an appropriate panel of experts of at least two people. If working in a team, each team member must make a substantial contribution to the presentation. 3. Destination Plan It is important to carry out detailed research and develop a clear plan of the steps needed to move on to a realistic destination when you complete your current studies. (a) In preparation to decide on a potential destination revisit your initial Skills Audit and reflect on your experience in formulating an Innovation Proposal and Presentation. (b) Produce a Destination Plan which should include evidence of the: identification of two potential career pathways; identification of specific skills, attributes, experience and qualifications required for the two careers; direct contact with employers to enquire about their requirements; a compilation of vacancies and their respective application requirements; an up to date CV providing a chronological account of qualifications, experiences and employment history; a formal supporting letter of application for a post or a personal statement for UCAS application; analysis of personal skills and attributes, experiences and qualifications and the gaps which need to be addressed in order to achieve the move to chosen destination; an appreciation of the financial demands of independent living and life style expectations; a cost analysis of personal finance implications set in a context.

Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate 4 4. Personal Reflection Presentation The ability to promote yourself will be important whatever your future destination. Responding to competency-based questions, for example, is a popular method used for recruitment purposes whether in applications or interviews. Reflect on the skills, qualities and attributes you demonstrated through the Challenge. Use this reflection to prepare and carry out a 5-10 minute oral presentation in which you articulate to a responsible person a positive promotion of your skills, qualities and attributes with clear examples.
