Langley Federal Credit Union Jean M. Yokum Scholarship Program (2016 Graduating High School Senior) Langley Federal Credit Union offers four annual scholarships for each academic year.* Each $5,000 scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. A graduating senior must submit a complete application to the Jean M. Yokum Scholarship Committee to be eligible for consideration. Scholarship Qualifications For the Jean M. Yokum Scholarship, an applicant must meet these qualifications: 1. Applicant must be a 2016 graduating senior entering an accredited college, university, trade or vocational school as a full-time student in a degree program leading to a baccalaureate or an associate s degree. 2. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA - B average or equivalent assessment to qualify. 3. The scholarship will be used for tuition, books and fees at the accredited college, university, trade or vocational school of the recipient s choice. The award will be paid directly to the school. 4. A student who accepts an appointment to a U.S. Military Service Academy, any 4-year ROTC scholarship or any other scholarship, grant or fellowship covering full tuition, books and fees is not eligible to receive this scholarship. 5. Applicant must have been an Langley member at the end of the prior calendar year (2015). Scholarship Application Requirements For consideration of the Jean M. Yokum Scholarship, each application must include the following: Completed 2015/2016 Jean M. Yokum Scholarship Application. Photocopy of student s most recent Student Aid Report (SAR) including the SAR cover. Official high school transcripts (original sealed document preferred). Not required for home-schooled students. Photocopy of report card showing grades for the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. SAT and/or ACT test scores. A typed essay of approximately 500 words expressing educational objectives, career goals and why they are important. Essay must be typed and double-spaced. Handwritten essays will not be considered. Two letters of recommendation written during the 2015-2016 academic year from an adult (non-family member) who knows the student well. One letter must be from a school counselor, administrator or teacher. Applicants that are home-schooled must also submit: Official copy of the Notice to Home Instruct or Religious Waiver Request.
