How VMware Enables Higher SLAs Status Quo VMware Value Add Results + Benefits Multiple monitoring tools Reactive problem solving Management silos Self-learning performing analytics Supermetrics simplify monitoring Dynamic Thresholds & Smart Alerts Easily extend with 3 rd party management packs Supports virtual, physical, public clouds and other hypervisors 90% reduction in false alerts Proactively detect and avoid incidents up to 24 hours in advance Single pane of glass for each team No new monitoring tools needed Improved availability and uptime of production systems 12
Service Levels: Get Comprehensive Visibility Operations Efficiency and Risk Immediate problems What is happening right now? What do I need to pay attention to? Forward Looking Are there areas that I should be concerned about? Am I utilizing resources in the most efficient manner? Are there compliance risks? 13
Service Levels: Gain Insights into Infrastructure and Applications Inventory Dependencies Application & Infrastructure Health vcenter Operations Automatically discover application dependencies Prioritize business critical over non-production workloads Manage infrastructure aligned with the business No finger pointing no fire drills no drama! 14
Service Levels: Monitor Health of Business Critical Applications Oracle database on a Linux machine is in bad health Application component seems problematic Drill down into problem metrics 15
Service Levels: Leverage Logs for Last Mile to Root Cause Analysis SCSI Errors NFS Errors vmotion Failures Host Disconnects Dropped Packets Failed Tasks Slow Host Syncs Slow DB Queries 16
Service Levels: Troubleshoot Across App, VM, and Storage 1 2 Admin gets alerted that Oracle App is slow Transaction latency above normal Check LUN Details (EMC VNX: LUN44) Oracle VM has performance issue IO OUTSTANDING High I/O outstanding (870/1024) LUNS Storage LUN health is red DISK IO 4 VNX Target HBA Resets 3 Check EMC VNX Analytics Target HBA Resets is high, limiting application performance SP-A is red 17
Service Levels: Automated Best Practices and Recommendations Recommendations on how to fix issues 18
Service Levels: Intelligent Problem Alerts Preview Problem alerts that go beyond just symptoms 19
How vcenter Operations Has Helped Alert Reduction: Instead of getting 500-1000 threshold alerts a day, we get 50-100 vcenter Operation alerts. We had so many false alerts. Faster Troubleshooting: We use the product for trouble shooting particular issues in our environment. Basically, this is the tool that helps us get to the problem faster than we would with other tools. Improved Capacity Utilization: We had a rate of 92% VM s, that were over-provisioned. We use vcenter Operations to get back resources from over-provisioned Virtual Machine s (VM s). 20
How VMware Can Help Achieve Your Goals? Goal What Is Needed? Quality of Service Reduce Mean Time to Identification (MTTI): Visibility across Infrastructure and Applications Proactive issue prevention Quickly resolve business impacting issues Operational Efficiency Reduce Capital and Operating Costs: Optimize use of resources to prevent unnecessary purchases Improve team efficiency and increase VI/admin ratios Control & Compliance Adhere to IT policies and standards: Compliance visibility to Operations Enforce IT policies across assets and infrastructures 21
How VMware Enables Operational Efficiency Status Quo VMware Value Add Results + Benefits P2V does not optimize system configuration for virtual infrastructure Lack of capacity management processes and skills Need for increased automation Rightsize and reclaim overprovisioned capacity Plan and forecast future needs Automated workflows speed remediation Cost metering helps identify opportunities to save 60% increase in VMs managed by a single VI admin 50% reduction in troubleshooting times 30% reclaimed resources 22
Operational Efficiency: Reclaim Over-provisioned Resources Monitor consolidation ratios and resource efficiency Optimize Configuration Standards Right-size Overprovisioned Virtual Machines 23
Operational Efficiency: Forecast Future Capacity Needs Current and future capacity state for clusters, hosts, VMs Current and future capacity state for CPU, memory, disk I/O, network I/O 24 Confidential
Operational Efficiency: Showback of Potential Cost Savings Monitor cost of cloud resources Analyse cost savings from Capacity Optimization 25
Operational Efficiency: Automate Capacity Optimization Workflows A capacity alert in Workflow to delete vcenter Operations powered off VMs and VM triggers a vcenter snapshots to resolve Orchestrator capacity issue workflow Prepare report and send email notification 26
Operational Efficiency: Enforce Configuration Standards View available compliance templates Select PCI compliance analysis results Report on overall compliance Pinpoint what posture systems failed what checks Fix violations Triage vital issues to address for critical systems 27
Operational Efficiency: A Single Pane of Glass for Your Cloud Amazon AWS Applications running on vsphere or Physical Infrastructure Hyper-V 28
How vcenter Operations Has Helped Right-sizing VMs We quickly discovered many VMs had been built with much more vcpu/memory than the workload required. This was chiefly as a result of our migration from older servers to VMs running on modern hardware. What-if scenarios The ability to model changes to the virtual environment before making any changes allows us to model predicted performance vs. capacity before any changes are made which could introduce risk to the apps running the business. Helps drive our data centre strategy ESXi helped us achieve the first stage of our virtualisation strategy. Thousands of physical hosts migrated to virtual hosts. vcenter Operations will help us increase the virtual to physical host ratio and maintain our service levels. 29

Quality of Service Reduce Mean Time to Identification (MTTI): Visibility across Infrastructure and Applications Proactive issue prevention Quickly resolve business impacting issues Operational Efficiency Reduce Capital and Operating Costs: Optimize use of resources to prevent unnecessary purchases Improve team efficiency and increase VI/admin ratios Control & Compliance Adhere to IT policies and standards: Compliance visibility to Operations Enforce IT policies across assets and infrastructures 30
How VMware Enables Control & Compliance Status Quo VMware Value Add Results + Benefits Configuration drift is hard to control Compliance audits take time Compliance is disconnected from day to day operations Monitor config and compliance data along side application performance OOB Compliance content for PCI, HIPAA, SOX etc. Supports vsphere, physical, public clouds and other hypervisors 45% reduction in time spent on ensuring compliance Automated configuration and compliance management Single operations console across private, public and hybrid clouds 31
Control and Compliance: Identify Config Changes Impacting Health Correlate changes with health scores Drill down and remediate in Configuration Manager 32
Control and Compliance: Take Action on Non-compliance Monitor compliance to standards vsphere Hardening Guidelines Take action on non-compliant items by launching Config Manager 33
How vcenter Operations Has Helped Increased visibility: vcenter Operations reduces trouble shooting times by 50%. We ve detected issues that we were not even aware of. Consolidated view of complete infrastructure: The Health information provided allows us to identify problems across storage and virtual infrastructure before they occur. Better capacity planning: With the trending information from vcenter Operations, our capacity planning is 40% faster and more accurate. 34
