This press release gives the aggregated speed test results from tests carried out by site users at www.broadband.co.uk for September 2015. Fixed line home broadband providers overview Average fixed line & upload speeds September 2015 BT 17.514 5.147 EE 8.772 2.307 Plusnet 14.593 4.574 Sky 11.891 3.259 TalkTalk 12.537 2.244 Virgin Media 42.354 6.078 All fixed line providers 19.118 4.247 Please note: We've improved our speed test so that users of tablets and mobile phones can now run tests. As a result, the average speeds have shifted down a little due to the tendency for WiFi connections to test slower than fixed line, especially at greater distances from the router. Virgin Media retain first place, with average speeds dropping by 0.96Mbps to 42.35Mbps. BT are in second place, with speeds remaining stable at 17.51Mbps. Plusnet hold third place, with speeds also remaining stable at 14.59Mbps. TalkTalk are in fourth place, with speeds rising by 0.32Mbps to 12.54Mbps. Sky remain in fifth place, with speeds speeds stable at 11.89Mbps. Overall, the average speed across all fixed line providers has decreased by 0.23Mbps since last month. Page 1 of 5

Consumer mobile broadband providers Average mobile & upload speeds September 2015 EE Mobile 17.057 5.184 O2 Mobile 10.132 3.314 Three Mobile 8.018 2.791 Vodafone Mobile 14.403 4.356 All consumer mobile 12.172 3.771 As our new speed test supports users of mobile devices, we're now able to provide information about average speeds for mobile broadband providers. Results from September place EE in first place with speeds averaging at 17.06Mbps, decreasing a bit by 0.16Mbps since last month. Vodafone are in second place with speeds rising by 2.6Mbps to 14.4Mbps. O2 dropped in average speed by 1.03Mbps to 10.13Mbps, while Three remain in fourth place with average speeds of 8.02Mbps, representing a 0.68Mbps drop. Overall, the average speed across all mobile broadband providers was 12.17Mbps, a 0.7Mbps drop compared to last month, while average mobile broadband upload speed is 3.77Mbps, a 0.54Mbps increase. Fixed line home broadband providers time of day Average fixed line speeds by time of day September 2015 Overnight (00:00 to 08:00) Average Daytime (08:00 to 18:00) Average BT 17.146 17.441 17.731 EE 8.909 9.201 8.169 Plusnet 14.173 14.867 14.263 Sky 12.301 11.842 11.872 TalkTalk 13.362 12.422 12.515 Virgin Media 49.473 45.804 36.584 All fixed line providers 20.22 19.457 18.355 Evening (18:00 to 00:00) Average When the fixed line providers' average speed is split to show separate figures for overnight, daytime and evening tests, we see how speed is heavily influenced by the time of day. For providers such as Plusnet and Sky, the overnight level shows significantly higher average speeds than the evening peak periods. This clearly shows the effects of network congestion on the average broadband connection at peak hours. Page 3 of 5

Supplemental fixed line broadband providers Average & upload speeds (supplemental) September 2015 Daisy 16.44 6.764 Post Office 2.781 0.66 Zen 18.262 5.46 Eclipse Internet 8.472 2.756 KC 12.922 4.329 Demon Broadband 6.196 1.516 BT Wi-Fi (aka BT Fon) 5.369 4.023 Entanet 19.405 8.874 Hyperoptic 67.983 57.618 Here we list additional fixed line broadband providers with fewer customers making use of our speed test. All providers listed have sufficient test numbers across the month to make average speeds statistically significant, but not enough tests to be split by time of day. The lower down the list, the less confident we are about the overall accuracy of the average results. It should be noted that some of these s primarily supply broadband to the business market, and so may utilize technologies not available to the vast majority of broadband users. Home providers tend to have a peak of test numbers in the evening while primarily business providers, such as Zen or Daisy have the greatest number during the day time. Page 4 of 5

About the broadband.co.uk speed test results Our results are taken from our website users performing speed tests using our speed checker at http://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test/ We record tens of thousands of speed tests every month. Unlike other speed test services we record the Internet Service Provider () by IP address making our recording very accurate rather than relying on self selection. Certain s resell their services as a wholesale or white label product, in these cases the wholesale is matched. We pick out the following 'big 6' fixed line s for detailed reporting every month: BT EE (excluding 4G mobile broadband) Plusnet Sky TalkTalk Virgin Media We now also report on the following mobile broadband providers: EE O2 Three Vodafone About broadband.co.uk Our broadband price comparison is accredited by Ofcom as open, honest and transparent.
