Congratulations to the 4 new boys in the team who all displayed very promising signs in the defensive departm Taiki was chosen as the man of the match with Mason given the most improved honours. Well done to Hamish MUD & BLOOD NEWS MATCH REPORTS 6.3.16 WESTS UNDER 7 N4 & UNDER 7 N5 It was a beautiful day at Purtell Park and what a fantastic start to the season for West Under 7 s playing Aspley. The boys had two awesome games with great success. There were some great off-loads and lots of awesome defense with some big tackles. Kingi Scoring the first try for U7N4 Niko scoring the first try from U7N5 A big thanks to all the parents for their help on the day. *** If you have a business and are interested in sponsoring one of our U7 teams please contact assistantsecretary@westsbrisbanejrl.com.au *** WESTS U9N5

Congratulations to the 4 new boys in the team who all displayed very promising signs in the defensive departm Taiki was chosen as the man of the match with Mason given the most improved honours. Well done to Hamish MUD & BLOOD NEWS WESTS TOOWONG MAZDA UNDER 8 N1 & UNDER 8 N2 This week saw us playing Redcliffe at home. A feature of the games from both sides was the defence with some great front on tackles and some incredible cover defence saving a number of tries. The never-say-die attitude of Wests limited the scoring opportunities for Redcliffe and this is something we can build on for the rest of the season. No doubt the highlights of both games were some of the tries scored by Wests which saw the ball being offloaded numerous times on the way to the try line. Overall the skill level of the Wests players was the difference along with a willingness to support in defence and attack. We will continue improving skills in a fun and competitive environment at training as this should be the focus in the mini/mod game. Thanks to the parents for assisting during the game and at training. WESTS MEAT AT BILLY S UNDER 9N5 The Wests U9N5 team displayed great heart and commitment during their opening game of the 2016 season. In extremely trying conditions, the boys managed to score a number of tries against a Brothers team with plenty of talent. Congratulations to the 4 new boys in the team who all displayed very promising signs in the defensive department. I have no doubt that these boys will continue to develop as a team and become an extremely talented rugby league team. Taiki was chosen as producing the Best Effort with Mason given the Most Improved honours. Well done to Hamish S, Hamish G and Matthew for scoring tries. WESTS U9N5

WESTS UNDER 9N4 What a great first up game by the boys today in hot and humid conditions. Every boy that played contributed towards a great first up game. They played as a team and displayed great pride and spirit in the Wests jersey. All the pre-season old school tackling practice on the truck tubes came to fruition with all the boys producing excellent solid defence. It was a definitely a highlight of the game, and one that eventually wore the Brothers team down. The boys produced some great hits in defence which also caused a few turn overs. It didn't take long for the boys to find the groove and capitalise in attack scoring some scintillating tries as well. We head towards next week's away game against Aspley let's hope the boys keep improving and have a great season. Also a big Wests #MudandBlood welcome to all our new players from the best junior club in Rugby League. We are still chasing a team sponsor for U9N4 so if you know anyone interested in sponsoring, please let us know (please contact assistantsecretary@westsbrisbanejrl.com.au)? WESTS DESIGNER STONE QLD UNDER 10 N5 & UNDER 10 N4 SPONSORED BY JOHN SULLIVAN A great start to the year! We are still in the middle of Summer and the weather was more suited to the beach but our kids were ready to start the new footy season. Given we only started training last week we had a goal to have fun, get to know each other by name and tackle / defend well. As the year progresses, then our attack, passing and structure will improve as the team gets familiar with each other. I was really pleased that we achieved our goals this week and we defended with a lot of courage and determination, against a much bigger team. In particular the enthusiasm from our new team mates, David, Zac, Callan and James. James de Stefani was our Best Effort award winner today for his overall excellent tackling and enthusiasm. WESTS BREKKY CREEK HOTEL UNDER 11 DIVISON 2 With a large number of boys new to Rugby League, ands some who had never played WESTS the game U9N5 before, we faced an experienced and well drilled Brother team. It was a tough start to the year, but the coaches were very pleased with the boy s commitment and enthusiasm. We will work very hard to help give the boys structure in attached to ensure every player get their opportunities and to help get plenty of points on the scoreboard. A very warm Panther welcome to all our new players in Bailey, Aiden, Hugo, Jeconiha, Jarrod, Nick, Ryan (both Ryan s) and Rhys. WESTS U11D2

WESTS U11 PREM WESTS BREKKY CREEK HOTEL UNDER 11 PREMIER The boys started where they left off last year with a convincing 42-6 win over Aspley. The boys showed real maturity in refusing to participate in some poor displays of sportsmanship by the opposition. And the boys know they have a lot more improvement left in them as they are still getting back into the swing of this great game of Rugby League. All the boys played strongly (and with fortitude) to a man with Toby, Jude and Jack leading from the front. A great first effort and welcome to the Prems boys WESTS UNDER 12 PREMIER A very promising start for the U12 team on Sunday. The boys defended relentlessly in the heat of the day, keeping Carina scoreless in the first half. Josiah was over early for our only try, and successfully converting. Big congrats to Rickson Aliva who was our Best Effort recipient, and to all the boys on a very impressive performance. Final result Carina 12-6. *If you are interested in sponsoring U12 please contact assistantsecretary@westsbrisbanejrl.com.au WESTS SS CAR & TRUCK BROKERS UNDER 13 DIVISION 1 The U13 West Panthers team travelled to Beenleigh to play their first game of the year and came away victors with a score line of 18 to 14. It was a great win considering there were six new players playing their first game in the red & black colours, and who all performed strongly. The team defended exceptionally well in the first half and continued that effort in the second half to hang onto a hard fought win. All of the boys played well with Best Effort honours going to John Radel and a close second to Lachlan Grace who made an outstanding tackle at fullback - which ultimately saved the game for his team.

WESTS SNAP FITNESS 24/7 NEWMARKET UNDER 14 DIVISION 3 Final score Wests 22 Aspley 16 After a disappointing season in 2015 it was great to field a side of 17 and come away with a win. It was a tough day in the heat with Aspley getting off to a good start and leading 16-4 at half time. Some good dummy half running from the smaller quicker boys in the second half soon had the big Aspley forwards dropping off tackles. Wests ran in 3 tries to 0 in the second half to secure the win. Great performance by all for their first hit up of 2016. Tries 1 to Ben Neilson (U13s), 2 tries to Noah Sutton, 1 try to Sebastian Gullo. 3 tries converted by Harrison Fowler. WESTS SNAP FITNESS 24/7 NEWMARKET UNDER 15 DIVISION 2 Arana 26 Wests 22 Tries Harrison O'Conner 2, Jack Horwood 1, Brayden Giarrantano 1. Sunday saw our team travel to Arana. This alone is a great achievement as this team didn't exist last year. After only 1 full training run the boys began to come together in the second half to really give Arana a solid scare. The season looks bright for the 15's, with a number of the boys never to have played league before, but gave a performance full of potential and pride. We reckon that this team will win there fair share of games this year. Please note that we are still on the lookout for a couple more boys to join this team for this year. Great game from Brayden with Best Effort award going to Jasper WEST UNDER 16 DIVISION 2 Arana 28 Wests 18 Tough start to the season with a first up loss. However, the boys have only had one or two training sessions so we believe that they will improve substantially as the season goes on. Thank you for all the boys who put up their hands to play footy today. Your Club is proud of you. *if you are interested in sponsoring U16D2 contact assistantsecretary@westsbrisbanejrl.com.au WESTS U16D2
