2.7.3 PRINTER SERVER 2.7.3.1 MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP/2003/2008 This document describes the minimum configuration necessary for the installation of a SAFE X3 print server for Microsoft Windows. Category Operating system Computer RAM memory DVD-ROM Disk space Microsoft Windows 2003 32-bit Microsoft Windows 2003 64-bit Microsoft Windows 2008 64-bit R1 or R2 Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit SP1a or SP2 or SP3 Configuration requirements 100% compatible PC Minimum Intel Pentium 506 processor recommended (or equivalent). 512 Mb to 1 Gb or more depending on the number of concurrent print processes. DVD-ROM drive (16x or higher recommended). The DVD-ROM drive is not mandatory in the case of an installation carried out from a server. 90 Mb: Sage X3 Print server 120 Mb: Crystal Report 2008 client (under \Program Files) Plan an additional 20 Mb per SAFE X3 solution associated with a print server. By default, the print server SAFE X3 uses the ODBC SQL Server Native Client or Cr Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC Driver, installed by its own setup. The use of these drivers does not require to install the SQL Server or Oracle client part. ODBC In case of a forced use of a CR Oracle ODBC SQL driver (for a SAFE X3 solution that uses an Oracle database), the presence of an Oracle Net 11 client on the server is mandatory. In that case, the SAFE X3 print server includes the Oracle "TNS_ADMIN" environment variable during the automatic "creation/update" procedure of an ODBC data source to an ODBC database. If this variable is present and properly valued, the "tnsames.ora" file located in the location indicated by the contents of this variable is updated by the Sage X3 print server during an automatic "creation/ update" procedure of an ODBC data source. In the case where the print server must be launched in "Windows Service" mode, it is highly recommended not to use the "Local System" login account. The Windows user account used to launch the server must have sufficient rights to: User account create system ODBC data sources modify the "%Windir%\system32\drivers\etc\services" file with Microsoft Windows 2003 and above, create global objects (local security attribute "Create global objects" when using a CR Oracle ODBC driver, access the Oracle*Net alias descriptions ("tnsames.ora" file located in the location specified by the Oracle environment variable "TNS_ADMIN") in read/write mode Thus, it is highly recommended that the Windows user account used to launch the print server be the Local administrator of the computer. The user account under which the print server has been started (in "Console" or "Windows service" mode) must have at least one printer that has been set up. If effective security rules do not allow to use an Administrator account and if the user account used does not have sufficient rights to access the resources mentioned above, the following rules must then be followed: a record must be manually added to the "%Windir%\system32\drivers\etc\services" file to declare the print server 23
listening port. The port number to enter is the one declared in the SAFE X3 administration console during the component configuration. The port alias must comply with the following convention: "adonix_numport" The Oracle or SQLServer data sources must be manually created on the computer. In the case of an CR Oracle ODBC Driver data source, do not forget to also create the Oracle*Net alias (use for this the Oracle "Net configuration" wizard). The configuration setups to use for the manual creation of ODBC data sources can be accessed via the SAFE X3 solution definition available from the SAFE X3 administration console. Lastly, in this case, the print server must be started using the "/noodbc" option in order to deactivate the automatic creation of ODBC data sources. Printer Internet browser E-mail software ADXADMIN If you want more details on these matters, consult the print server presentation and operation guide. Known limit: The use of printers of type LaserJet 1022n causes the overlapping of lines in reports using "Rich Text". Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0.5730.11 minimum, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8.0.7600.16385 minimum A MAPI compatible e-mail system is necessary in the case where e-mail will be used to distribute the results of a print request. This software must in addition be activated in such a way that a MAPI session can be established without having to connect beforehand. A "SAFE X3 ADXADMIN" administration engine must be installed on the server. It can be found on the DVD-ROM in the directory "Safe X3 ADXADMIN". Launch setup.exe. 24

More details on the Microsoft help page. If the user wants to print management reports coming from a SAFE X3 solution, via a local print engine, the SAFE X3 client manages the creation, configuration and control of the ODBC data sources (Oracle or SQLServer) necessary for the print processes to access the database servers of the attached SAFE X3 solution. By default, the print server SAFE X3 uses the ODBC SQL Server Native Client or Cr Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC Driver, 27
installed by its own setup. The use of these drivers does not require to install the SQL Server or Oracle client part. Depending on the configuration setups for the SAFE X3 client, the Windows user accounts using the application will have to have the rights sufficient to create a user ODBC data source. Printer In case of a forced use of a CR Oracle ODBC Driver (for a SAFE X3 solution that uses an Oracle database), the presence of an Oracle Net 11 client on the workstation is mandatory. 34
