The following restores are certified: Physical machine restored to XenServer virtual machine Virtual machine restored (Hyper-V or VMware) to XenServer virtual machine XenServer virtual machine restored to physical hardware XenServer virtual machine restored to another virtual machine (Hyper-V or VMware) WINDOWS 2003 AND UP ENHANCEMENTS LONG PATHNAME SUPPORT The Windows Agent now supports backup and restore of path lengths up to 32000 characters. Both the on-premise appliance and the Windows agent require release 5.0.2 for this functionality. 1
Support for Exchange 2010 SP1 added for VSS-Exchange Agent. HOT BAREMETAL ENHANCEMENT Enhancements have been made to the Windows interface to handle multiple issues with network configurations. After upgrading new media should be created. NOTIFICATION MANAGEMENT New alerts have been added for the following: Windows clients that are on a release prior to 5.0. Vault capacity is at 80% and at 110%. uarchive Daemon is not running. FEATURE ENHANCEMENTS OPTIMIZED DATABASE The Unitrends solution has been optimized to offer support for files with long pathnames for Windows. The addition of this capability will require a change in the database storage format, which will necessitate a database migration. This enhancement is designed to provide greater database integrity and speed. The migration of the Unitrends database will occur during upgrade of the appliance software. The migration completion time will depend largely on the amount of data being migrated. An alert will be displayed on the Rapid Recovery Console status page indicating the status of the migration. While the migration is in progress, the alert will indicate the percentage complete; and will ultimately denote the operation s completion. During this time, the RRC may be unable to answer additional requests. It is important even if the RRC stops responding to wait for installation to complete and to not reboot the appliance. The most recent backups will be migrated first. While the migration is active: Selective restores may be disabled depending on how far the migration has progressed. During the initial steps of the migration new jobs will not be launched. Database cleanup will not start until the migration is complete. If a restore of a backup is required that has not migrated, selecting the backup will cause migration of the selected backup to start. 2
APPLIANCE VIRTUALIZATION PROTECTOR FOR VMWARE (VPROTECTOR) Performance improvements have been made for our VMware solution that dramatically reduces time to query list of VMs. The following VMware platforms are supported: VMware ESX 3.5 Update 5 VMware ESX 4.0 VMware ESX 4.1. The following versions of vcenter are supported: vcenter Server 4.0 vcenter Server 4.1 For a list of other dependencies see the Appliance and Agents User Manual. SOLARIS CLIENT UPDATE The Solaris agent is now certified for File Level backups and restore of Solaris (Intel) 10.x. Support has also been added for backup and restore of ZFS as well as UFS file systems. LINUX CLIENT The Linux agent has now been certified with Oracle Linux. APPLIANCE PERSONALITY FOR NEW APPLIANCES This is an added feature for new appliances being deployed with version 5.0.2 appliance software that requires the user to set the personality of the appliance the first time it is brought online. The personality of the appliance indicates how the appliance will be used. Based on the personality selected, different features will be made available. Once the personality is set, the appliance will continue to operate in this role. The appliance personality can be configured in one of the following ways: On-premise Backup Appliance Disaster Recovery Appliance (Vault) Backup and Disaster Recovery Appliance (Cross-Vault) RESOLVED DEFECTS The following customer defects have been resolved in this release. 3
COMPONENT Backups DESCRIPTION Changing the name of a registered client name caused archive schedules to fail. When archive drives are switched the new archive drive was not always seen. Archive catalog was not being generated properly on backups larger than 2TB. backups restored from archive were not seen when doing Windows restores. Archive restore fails when the orders of the drives were altered. Files skipped because of long pathnames with Window s backups. Bare Metal RRC RRC Disk geometry could cause BM restore fails to the same system indicating disk size too small Active Windows partition is not identified correctly when the first partition is a utility partition. Network is not recognized when doing Windows restore when two network cards are present. Unable to changing the gateway when doing a Windows restore. backup listing when booted to the Windows media shows GMT instead of the local system time. RRC restore window freezes/clears when searching for a file if a backup contains greater than 2 million files. No link available from the RRC for customers to download client software. Backup/Restore Unable to backup/restore files with '#' in the path from the RRC Backup/Restore Restore list is not sorted in alphabetical order on the RRC. Installation Windows installer name does not include platform information. Schedule Application schedules do not run if no file-level schedules are 4
present. Vaulting Vaulting SQL Agent SQL Agent Windows Vault emailed report shows baremetal backups in backlog even though they are not vaulting. OpenVPN communication does not restart following connectivity interruption SQL Agent excludes directory rather that database SQL job failed and RRC says VSS SQL full backup failed nothing useful for when database pointed on troubleshooting Snapshot creation fails with quiesce timeout causing backups to fail. Enumerating vm's takes an extremely long time backups fail with QueryChangedDiskAreas error. Schedules for ESX servers are randomly moving when VM's move. backups timeout if the time required to create the snapshot is longer than 15 minutes. System State backup not deleted when Unitrends agent installed to non-default location DEPRECATED FEATURES MOTIF GUI The Motif GUI has been further deprecated as the Rapid Recovery Console (RRC) is enhanced. The RRC should be used to manage the Unitrends Appliance. TAPE SUPPORT We have a handful of customers that are using direct tape backup (D2T). As we began communicating to you in March of 2010, we have deprecated our support for D2T (note: NOT tape archive, which is D2D2T and which we continue to support, but D2T.) With our release 5.0.2, we have eliminated all support for D2T. 5
This means that if you are among the few customers who are using D2T, you should not upgrade to 5.0.2. You should also immediately contact Unitrends sales at 866.369.5411 or e-mail us at sales@unitrends.com so we can work with you to move you to D2D2T. Please contact Unitrends at 866.369.5411 or e-mail info@unitrends.com if you have any questions or concerns. RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS HOT BAREMETAL BACKUPS Linux hot does not support EXT4 file systems. Linux hot does not support SAN interconnects. The Windows hot functionality is not currently supported on Windows dynamic disks. To successfully create a backup for these platforms, the cold methodology must be followed. ACTIVE SUPPORT CONTRACTS The upgrade process checks to ensure that the appliances are under an active support contract prior to allowing the upgrade process to begin. CLIENT REGISTRATION Systems that will be backed up by the Backup Appliance must have their IP address in the host file on the Appliance.
