How to Apply REQUIREMENTS This booklet contains information for applying as a full-time freshman in FDU s two-year associate s degree program. If you plan to transfer to FDU, contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-338-8803 to request a Transfer Application. If you plan to study on a part-time basis, call the Office of Adult and Part-time Undergraduate Admissions at 201-692-2551 to request an application. Application Complete pages 3 and 4. Application Fee Waived for applicants to the associate s degree program. Transcripts Official transcripts must be sent directly from your high school to Fairleigh Dickinson University. The transcript is required from each high school attended. Official SAT and/or ACT Scores Request that your official SAT and/or ACT scores be sent directly to our Office of Admissions. Letters of Recommendation It is encouraged that you submit two letters of recommendation. One letter should be from a teacher or school counselor. Recommended Academic Background We recommend that your academic background include the following: 4 units of English 2 units of History 3 units of Science (2 units of Laboratory Science minimum) 3 units of college prep Mathematics (such as Algebra I & II and Geometry) 2 units of a Foreign Language 4 units of Electives (at least 3 of which should be academic in nature) Fairleigh Dickinson University operates on a rolling admissions basis, which means that each applicant will be notified about the admission decision as soon as possible after the applicant s file becomes complete. A complete file consists of the student s application, SAT or ACT scores, high school transcripts and two letters of recommendation. Advanced Standing: Entering freshmen can qualify for advanced standing by earning academic credit through the following means: (a) Advanced Placement (AP) examinations administered each May by the College Entrance Examinations Board. (b) The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program and, for international students, the results of A-level exams. About the Associate s Degree Program Leading to the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree, this comprehensive, full-time program for recent high school graduates is known for its small classes and exceptional academic support. It is offered at the University s Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, NJ, and is exclusively for commuter students. Students who successfully complete the associate s degree program can transfer into many of FDU s 100+ majors and concentrations at either the Metropolitan Campus or Florham Campus in Madison, NJ. Graduates who continue their studies at FDU automatically receive an annually renewable $4,000 Alumni Award. The University reserves the right to deny admission to any applicant who, in the judgment of the Admissions Committee or the Director of Admissions, may not benefit from Fairleigh Dickinson University s educational programs or whose presence or conduct may impact negatively on its program(s). To apply for federal, state and University-funded financial aid, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available online at fafsa.ed.gov. Send the completed FAFSA to the address provided on the form. It is recommended that you file the FAFSA by February 15. What is most important when you evaluate an application? Grade point average, rank in class and the difficulty of your courses are criteria most indicative of your ability to succeed at Fairleigh Dickinson University. SAT/ACT scores are another important component. Is an admissions interview required? An interview is not required, but it is recommended. Meeting you to discuss your educational history, interests and academic goals gives us the chance to get to know you better. When will I be notified of my admissions decision? FDU offers a rolling admissions plan, and applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
