Providing direct support to students through tutoring, testing, providing enrichment activities, emphasizing critical thinking activities, mentoring, and supporting our students to increase personal academic success leading independent and life-long learners. Academic Program: 2016 CLS Summer Schedule and Tuition Academic programs require diagnostic testing for all new students to determine curriculum and placement. Leap: $50 Reading and Math: $70 Learning Disabilities: $170 Includes: instruction by certified teachers, class materials, post-testing, and end of session written report and conference with teacher. June 13 24, 2016 and/or July 11 July 22, 2016 Meets: Monday-Friday, 10 sessions for 1 hour and 30 minutes Class size: 3-6 students Tuition: Group $300 Private $750 One-Week Classes 1 hour and 30 minutes Meets: Class size: Tuition: SUMMIT : Monday-Friday, 5 sessions for 1 hour and 30 minutes 5-10 students $75.00/class June 27 July 1, 2016, Monday-Friday

LEAP Providing an early reading program that encourages children in the area of reading and fosters a love of reading. Ages: 4-6 The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the individual students. The curriculum is personalized to develop our students reading skills. Each class will utilize different materials and teaching techniques to help students meet their early reading potential. Depending on the level of class and the needs of the class, the emphasis will be on: Mastering the alphabet Learning the phonetic sounds Expanding sight word vocabulary Practicing rhyming Developing basic reading skills Building vocabulary and comprehension through literature based activities. Includes: instruction, class materials, post-testing, and conference.

READING CHALLENGERS Providing an educational program to improve reading skills and to foster a love of reading. Grades: Elementary The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the individual students. The curriculum is personalized to improve our students reading skills. Each class will utilize different materials and teaching techniques to help students meet their reading potential. Depending on the needs of the class, the focus will be on: Acquiring vocabulary through context Applying phonics Learning word attack strategies Mastering sight words Promoting fluent oral reading Increasing reading comprehension skills and strategies Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs.

POWER READERS Students will develop strategies through various activities to improve their reading. Grades: Middle School Class instruction includes a focus on: broadening reading vocabulary, examining definitions and context clues, identifying main ideas, producing an accurate summary, understanding what is read, demonstrating ability to read critically, and practicing on the computer to increase reading rate and comprehension. Activities may include: individual activities, group exercises, computer practice, and discussion. Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs

HIGH SCHOOL READING Students will develop strategies through various activities to improve their reading. Grades: High School Class instruction includes a focus on: incorporating lessons of vocabulary to help improve reading, examination of definitions and context clues, main ideas, summarization, understanding, critical reading, and practice on the computer to increase reading rate and comprehension. Activities May Include: individual activities, group exercises, computer practice, and discussion. Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement

ADVANCED MIDDLE SCHOOL READING Students will develop advanced preparatory reading strategies through various activities to prepare them for high school reading. Grades: Middle School Class instruction includes a focus on: Developing flexible reading rates Studying Greek/Latin roots Utilizing critical reading skills and analogical relationships Becoming proficient contextual readers Activities May Include: individual activities, group exercises, computer practice, and discussion. Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs

CRITICAL ANALYTICAL READ AND WRITING Reading anwriting Preparation for college level analytical reading and writing. Grades: 11 and 12 Class instruction includes a focus on: providing academically proficient students to critically analyze advanced essays and respond with appropriate writing assignments. By discussing the essays and the writings, students will implement increased insight into their own writing preparing them academically for their future college career. Activities May Include: individual activities, group exercises, advanced reading passages, writing practice, and discussion. Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL WRITING Reading a Students will develop writing strategies and be exposed to elements of good writing. Grades: Middle and High School Classes Class instruction includes a focus on: elements of character, plot, setting, conflicts, create poetry through formalized patterns, grammar as it pertains to writing, and dialogue. All of the above elements will be applied to writing. Activities May Include: short story writing including the elements of writing with discussion after each writing sample to be an informative method to evaluate and comment on individual writing.

MIDDLE / HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING STRATEGIES Reading a Students will develop the necessary tools leading to academic success. Grades: Middle and High School Class instruction includes a focus on: discussing various elements, reading for comprehension activities, vocabulary building, main idea and analogy lessons, organizational/graphic charts such as Cornell note-taking, Venn Diagram, SRuns, and the SQ3R techniques. Activities May Include: Learning and Study Strategies Inventory, Learning Styles Inventory, Multiple Intelligence Inventory, individual activities, group exercises, computer activities, and discussion.

MIGHTY MATHWriting R Providing an educational program to improve students math skills along with fostering students confidence in the area of math. Grades: Elementary The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the individual students. The curriculum is personalized to improve our students math skills. Each class will utilize different materials and teaching techniques to help students meet their math potential. Depending on the level of class and the needs of the class, the focus will be on: Computation and regrouping Problem solving strategies and word problems Time, measurement, and money concepts Fractions and decimals Geometry Critical thinking skills DIAGNOSTIC TESTING : Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs.

POWER MATH R Providing an educational program to improve students math skills along with fostering students confidence in the area of math. Grades: Middle School The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the individual students. The curriculum is personalized to improve our students math skills. Each class will utilize different materials and teaching techniques to help students meet their math potential. Power Math provides an intensive review of basic math skills including fractions and decimals. Pre-Algebra is the focus to prepare students for algebra and to combine basic skills with problem solving. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING : Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their needs.

PREPARATORY ALGEBRA R Students will be introduced to topics that are presented in a first-semester algebra program. Grades: 8-10 Class instruction includes a focus on: Integrating the skills of basic math with the new concepts of algebra Linear algebra Graphing Activities May Include: individual activities, group exercises, and tablet apps. Students will be encouraged to ask questions about the topics discussed. Emphasis will be on helping students to learn how to teach themselves with understanding.

ALGEBRA I R Introduction to topics that are presented in a first-semester algebra program. Students will be encouraged to ask questions about the topics discussed. Students will be encouraged to learn how to teach themselves with understanding.

GEOMETRY R Students will be introduced to concepts related to point, planes, planar, and solid figures. Grades: 10-12 Class instruction includes a focus on: Introduction to undefined terms Introduction to definitions and assumptions that lead to theorems The nature of deductive reasoning Recognize Geometry s value due to its application to other areas such as astronomy, art, chemistry, physics, engineering, etc. Activities May Include: individual activities, group exercises, creating geometric constructions. Students will be encouraged to ask questions about the topics discussed. Encourage students to learn how to teach themselves with understanding.

PRIVATE TUTORING Students will develop skills to facilitate academic success. Ages: 4 years old senior citizens Class instruction includes: Individual instruction. Curriculum designed around individual needs. Tutoring areas available, but not limited to: Reading. Math. Test Preparation and Strategies. Tutoring in specific academic subjects. Learning Strategies. Writing. Critical reasoning. Increasing reading rate while retaining comprehension. Activities May Include: Computer activities. Supplemental books. Pen and paper activities. Educational games. Testing: Diagnostic testing is required of all students prior to entering the program for placement and to develop a curriculum designed for their academic needs.

ACT PREPARATION Preparation for the ACT examination. Grades: 10 12 Class instruction includes a focus on: A review of English, math, science, reading, and writing Proven test-taking strategies are emphasized Activities May Include: individual activities, group activities, practice tests, presentations, and group discussion.
