He co-directed the cinema documentary Pushwagner (2011) with Even Benestad as well as the short documentary Club 7 (2013). At the end of 2010 we received a package in the mail. The package contained an unedited video diary from a young girl. She wanted someone to tell her story. When we accessed the memory stick that arrived in the mail, we were struck by the exceptionally strong and brutally honest material playing before our eyes. Ida started harming herself when she was 10 years old. Today she s 26 and has several painful years behind her in the limbo of youth psychiatry. Hansen DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY Knut Aas PRODUCER Mona Steffensen for Original Film AS RELEASE DATE April 2015 CONTACT Original Film AS TORSTEIN GRUDE (1971) holds a degree in media theory and film history from the University of Bergen (1994), and studied at the London International Film School, graduating in 1997. He has directed several documentary films, and works as a director, cinematographer and producer at Piraya Film AS, a company which he also founded. In addition to his own efforts as a director and producer, Grude has also worked in various technical capacities on over a hundred other productions. The film captures the ongoing war in Mogadishu, Somalia, not from the white Western filmmaker s perspective, but from the prespective of two Burundian soldiers who are deployed there in order to fight the Islamist extremists Al-Shebaab. The soldiers undergo a basic technical film course at Piraya Film AS before going to war. Kristian Birkeland, the man who solved the mystery of the northern lights, had a versatile talent and many incredible ideas. He was an uncompromising and brilliant scientist with great passion for his work. In spite of Birkeland s pioneering auroral research, he was ignored and opposed for a long time, both in Norway and abroad. Not until the 1960s, when NASA began manned spacecrafts, were Birkeland s theories confirmed and accepted. The Mystery of the Northern Lights is the story of Kristian Birkeland s short, but eventful life in which both success and tragedy dominated. It is also the story of the power struggle that took place in the Norwegian science community in the late 1800s. TROND BREDE ANDERSEN is educated at the London International Film School. He worked from 1985 to 1989 within film and video production in Oslo. In 1989 he moved back to Tromsø and made the film Hva det betyr at være menneske about the philosopher and climber Peter Wessel Zapffe and the fiction film Som evige Stjerner after a novel by Knut Hamsun. Trond was one of the founders of Original Film AS in 1997 and has since then directed and produced short films and documentaries amongst them several successes that has done well both on television and festivals. 22 23

After Anschluss in the summer of 1938, twenty-one Jewish children came from Vienna to Oslo for summer camp. When the parents were offered to let the kids stay, half of them accepted. The children who returned, perished in the concentration camps. Child psychologist and communist Nina Hasvold undertook the management of a Jewish children s home in Oslo on one condition; she would not be responsible for their religious education. In 1941 the director s deceased father joined the home. As for many of the other kids, Nina became a replacement for their lost families. When the director was born in 1966, her father named her daughter after her. What ever happened to Dreyer s Joan of Arc? Renee Falconetti s face is one of the most iconic of the history of cinema. That performance, her only appearance on film, had a lot to do with her glory and with her ruin too. Nitrate Flames is an archive-based film that follows Falconetti s path from the bright lights of Paris in the 1920s to the shadows of Buenos Aires in the 1940s, where she ended up in misery and oblivion, tracking a parallel with the fate of Dreyer s masterwork, resurfaced in a Norwegian mental institution in the early 1980s. The film follows Hook from the bottom of the modern social ladder on a voyage into the heart of Moken territory off the coast of Myanmar. More than a quest to salvage the remains of his culture, he faces the universal questions of identity, love, loss and belonging. Emanuel was living for ten years in Norway without a residence permit. For five years he tried to get voluntary return to Liberia. This is a film about an illegal refugee who smuggles himself back to his home country. RUNAR JARLE WIIK started shooting and directing during his enrollment at The London International Film School in the mid-eighties, at the time being the youngest student to be admitted. Graduating with additional distinctions in Cinematography (D.O.P.) led to a host of assignments as D.O.P. for shorts, commercials and documentaries, sometimes in combination with the role as director. He studied philosophy at the University in Tromsø, Norway, and after a year of film- and TV studies in Australia, he completed his film and TV education in 1987 at NRK. Before establishing his own company, f(x) productions, in 1996, Kjæreng worked many years for NRK. His documentaries include films like Hussain s Butcher Shop (2000), Fuckin Rock n Rolla (2002) and King Hussain of Pakistan Queen Asia of Norway (2005), but his arguably most known production is the 2010 film The Snow Cave Man (2010). The priest Børre Knudsen is the most famous anti-abortion activist in Norway. His 30-year long crusade for the unborn child resulted in him having to leave his position as a priest in the The State Church and flee his house in Northern Norway together with his family. This is a film about fighting for what you believe in without thinking about the consequence; about what it costs to go against the flow, and the profound effect it has on yourself and those around you. The portrait of the Knudsen family is a dramatic and existential story of a family fighting to keep their Christian belief in the modern world. A documentary series by Thomas Robsahm about punk s breakthrough in Norway and its influence on Norwegian culture and society. For young people in the late 70s, freedom of expression was used to scream out their message accompanied by raw, unfinished music that scared most people. Over 30 years later, punk is more relevant than ever, but also more accepted. Punk differed from earlier youth rebellions by being more anarchistic, less politically correct and entirely unpredictable. A punk band could play at a Rock against Racism-event with swastikas on their shirts. Provocation was the key. But all rebellion has a reason. The punks were the hippie s children. They didn t buy their parents naïve faith in a harmonious world. Peace & Love was the dream, Hate & War was reality. THOMAS ROBSAHM is a prize-winning producer, director, musician and former actor. He debuted with Rebels with a Cause (1992). Since then, he has directed both feature films as The Greatest Thing (2001) and documentaries as Modern Slavery (2009). He is now focused on producing films. He is also a musician and has composed the film music for Modern Slavery and The Angel. He is now producer in the production company Motlys after 4 years as Commissioning Editor at Norwegian Film Institute. 28 29

Of course, the admiring young daughter agrees. But this is the past. The young girl has become an older woman, incapable of just getting on with her own life. She has an inheritance to take care of; all her father s abstract pictures. What on earth made him produce without an audience? without communication? The daughter looks for answers in the past. Life was not a dance on roses. There had been a sense of shame too. The sisters, Nastia and Polina, are students of a ballet academy in St. Petersburg in Russia. Nastia, 13, has a special gift to dance. She is one of the best students of the academy and therefore she will perform the soloist role at the end of the year s performance. The Wall is based on an event from director David Kinsella s childhood growing up in Northern Ireland, where the character David is told a story about a women fleeing from North Korea. The director s production period in North Korea was so incredibly directed by the government that he has chosen to use the memory as a starting point for their own interpretations using advanced animation techniques. By drawing parallels between his own childhood in Northern Ireland, and one refugee s story from North Korea, the film discusses how the stories and myths build both identity and the idea of the other. The relatively simple linear story is told in a complex and original imagery, which opens and challenges different interpretations and associations. Veasoejorksh (meaning life-changing) is a creative documentary directed particularly at young people. The film tells about the 14-year-old Ellen Sara, who comes from a South Sami reindeer herding family in Aarborte in Norway.
