May 2016 Christian Hessler to represent Nebraska at the FBI Academy Sophomore Christian Hessler, son of Brian and Anne Hessler of Hastings, has been selected to represent the state of Nebraska at the Youth Leadership Program sponsored by the FBI National Academy Associates. The Academy is a private, nonprofit organization which is not part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The program will be held on the campus of the FBI Academy/DEA Academy in Quantico, VA, the most prestigious law enforcement training facility in the world and is designed to grow and/or enhance leadership skills of the highest level. The program will last from June 23 to July 1. All expenses for this week are provided by the Nebraska Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA). Christian first heard of this program from his father, who is an administrative sergeant for the Hastings Police Department. Following the submission of his application and recommendations, he was one of five finalists interviewed and received his official acceptance into the program the first week of May. The Academy accepts one person per state. In his letter of selection, Detective Larry Kinne of the McCook Police Department and YLP committee chairperson, told Christian that... the entire YLP Committee would like to tell you that you impressed each one of us and based upon your application and you as a person, we know that you will meet and exceed our expectations as you represent us at the YLP. Christian s response to his selection? I hope to enhance my leadership skills, people skills, and teamwork skills by learning from such experienced people as Secret Service Agents, FBI Agents, and other invited instructors. I m just very excited about this opportunity and can t wait to board that plane to Washington! Christian s activities at St. Cecilia include participation in the athletic areas of football, bowling, and golf, as well as the extracurricular activities of speech, quiz bowl, and Teens for Life. We all join Christian in this honor and wish him a very exciting summer experience. All Glory to God Hastings Catholic Schools Excellence in Education
