Recommended Deployment Architecture Introduction The Centrata software suite is designed to be deployed on an industry standard n-tier distributed deployment architecture infrastructure. The solution uses best of breed J2EE component technologies to provide Internet class scalability, availability and reliability. The technical architecture is built using highly proven components from premier vendors including HP, EMC, BEA, Oracle, Brocade, Veritas and others. The architecture conforms to industry standard J2EE multi-tier architecture. The first tier of the solution consists of local networking and switching gear terminating in redundant load balancers that distribute the load across a Web server farm. The local switching network and firewall-related details are not covered in this document and are assumed to be based on the client s existing Ethernet Switching and Firewall Infrastructure. The 2 nd Tier consists of regular Web servers that provide user access to the 3 rd Tier of Weblogic based Application Servers running the Centrata Key Application Components. Finally, the Application Servers access the persistence tier consisting of the Oracle database servers. The Centrata deployment architecture supports complete disaster recovery spanning multiple locations. It provides global distribution of user requests leveraging Global Load Balancers and synchronized and replicated back end data bases using Global Load Balancers like 3DNS from F5 and Data replication products like Volume Replicator from Veritas. This document does not include details on the global disaster recovery option but can be added if the client decides to add multiple Centrata locations along with the global Disaster Recovery capability. Deployment Architecture Attributes No single point of failure redundant components at every level o Redundant Network Elements and Connections Switches, Load Balancers o Multiple Load Balanced Web Servers o Clustered application servers that can be scaled up by simply adding additional Application Servers o Automatic Fail over of the Oracle 8i database instance using Veritas Database Edition for Oracle 8i, which includes: Veritas File System, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster Server and Veritas ORACLE Agents. o Disk Level Redundancy provided by Highly Available EMC Clarion Based Storage system with Zero+One Raid Systems Scalability by simply adding additional network, system components or application instances at run time. Optimized Performance via o High performance HP Proliant Servers o Optimized Java JSP and Servlets based Front End System o Multithreaded Java applications Centrata IT Management Suite 3.0 1
Recommended Deployment Architecture Document Scope This document serves to describe the Deployment Architecture for Centrata Applications deployed at the client site. These environments include: Single-Site Deployment The single-site deployment environment runs the Centrata Suite for a limited number of users. The number of named users on this environment would be restricted to 500 users and the number of concurrent users on this environment would be restricted to 100 users. Two independent instances of the Centrata System are recommended. One of the instances is used for production and the other would be needed for testing and staging of updates to the Customer Service Catalog. Multiple-Site Deployment The multi-site environment would not have a restriction on the number of named users; however, the number of concurrent users would be restricted to 500 for each geographic location. The system can be scaled up to additional concurrent users by horizontally adding servers to the Web, Applications and Database Tiers. Single-Site Production Deployment Hardware and Software Requirements You can set up a production deployment using just two machines each one running the whole application, with one of them also functioning as the management server. See the diagrams below. One indicates specifications for a WebLogic stack, and the other indicates specifications for an IBM stack. The recommended Single-Site Production Deployment Architecture provides hardware and software redundancy at the Web, Application and Database Tiers. The Web Tier is load balanced using a hardware load balancing device like F5 Big IP. The Application Servers are clustered using Weblogic Clusters and the Database Tier is configured for Hot Fail-over using Veritas Cluster Manager and Veritas ORACLE Agent. 2 Copyright 2004 by Centrata, Inc.
Single-Site Production Deployment Hardware and Software Requirements Single-Site Hardware Components Intel X86 CPU Architecture Centrata fully supports standard X86 Servers provided by IBM, Dell and HP/Compaq. Centrata is recommending the HP Servers in the table below. Rack-Mounted Hardware In addition, Centrata has recommended the use of rack-mounted hardware wherever possible to provide better physical management capability of the deployment of Centrata IT Management Suite. The following table details the technical specifications for the computers required for deploying the Centrata Suite of Applications. Web Server Two HP Proliant 360 1U Web Server 3.2 GHZ Xeon CPU, 512MB Memory, 36.4 GB Internal SCSI Disk, CD-ROM Application Server Two HP Proliant 380 2U App Server 2X 3.2 GHZ Xeon CPUs, 4GB Memory, 2X36.4 GB Internal SCSI Disk, CD ROM Database Server Two HP Proliant 580 3U DB Server 2X2.8GHZ Xeon CPUs, 4GB Memory, 2X36.4 GB Internal SCSI Disk Storage Server EMC Clarion CX400 Storage Server with 6X73GB Disk Units with One Connnectrix DS16B2 SAN Switch Single-Site Software Components The following table details the technical specifications for the major software components required for deploying the Centrata Suite of Applications. Recommended Deployment Architecture Multi-Site Production Deployment Hardware and Software Requirements The recommended Multi-Site Production Deployment Architecture is enhanced by upgrading or adding the following additional components at various Tiers: Global Load Balancer Tier The Global Load Balancer Tier leverages two redundant F5 3DNS Servers to route traffic between different sites. Load Balancer Tier A second F5 Big-IP 520 load balancer provides complete redundancy at this tier. The SSL accelerators on the 520 s reduce the load on the Web Servers. Web Tier No changes are recommended to the Web Tier but additional Web Servers can be simply added to the Web Tier depending upon the actual number of concurrent users expected for the system. Application Server Tier No changes are recommended to the Application Server Tier but additional Application Servers can be simply added to the Web Sphere Cluster depending upon the anticipated load and number of concurrent users. Database Server Tier No changes are recommended for the DB tier. Additional storage needs will be accessed after the growth rate of the Centrata Operational Databases has been determined after the first year of operation. Storage Tier The storage tier availability is further enhanced by adding a new EMC DS16B2 SAN switch. Multi-Site Hardware Components The following table details the technical specifications for the computers required for deploying the Centrata Suite of Applications. 6 Copyright 2004 by Centrata, Inc.
