Training Officer Process Overview Training Officers may perform the following actions in NREMT: Registering Your Agency: if you are the first person from your Agency applying to NREMT, you may register your Agency within the system if it does not already exist. Agency validation may take a few days. See Registering Your Agency for more details. Note that only Training Officers may register an Agency. Approve Affiliations: once you and your Agency are registered within NREMT, you may accept affiliation requests from all levels of EMTs, Medical Directors, and other Training Officers. This feature would be used to register incoming applicants or include existing employees of your Agency into NREMT. See Reviewing Pending Affiliation Requests for more details. Viewing and Removing Affiliations: you may also view or remove the affiliations of Agency personnel (including yourself, so be careful). This feature would be used to check your current roster of applicants or remove employees who have left your Agency. Note that you can open individuals current educational progress from the Affiliations roster. See Viewing or Removing People from Your Roster for more information. Manage Education: you may review the current educational status of your EMTs as filtered by their various levels (EMT Basic, Intermediate 85, etc.) and see how they are applying their coursework to their next registration. You may also add training courses to multiple EMTs at once or to multiple levels of EMTs one level at a time. You would manage their educations yourself to speed the process, avoid being dependent on EMT availability to add the classes themselves, and to ensure consistency in educational information for a course across your EMTs. See Managing Training Basics to get familiar with the functions available in adding or editing training for EMTs. See Managing Training Instructions: Adding New Training to EMTs for more information on adding new training to EMTs. See Managing Training Instructions: Adding Existing Training to Another EMT Level for more information on adding existing training to various levels of EMTs. Approve Recertification: you will be required to approve the education and certifications of EMT recertification applications. In addition, you will need to approve or reject their responses regarding disciplinary or felony statuses for each EMT. See Reviewing Pending Recertification Packets for more information. 7/20/2009 7

Registering Your Agency You may only register an Agency if you have a valid Training Officer account in NREMT. If you do not yet have a Training Officer account and are a qualified Training Officer, follow the instructions under Registering as a Training Officer to register with NREMT. www.nremt.org 7/20/2009 8

4. Click the Create Agency Request link. Result: The Training Officer: Create an Agency page opens (shown in the next step). 7/20/2009 9

7/20/2009 10

6. Await verification from NREMT. You will be notified that your Agency request is pending. It will require verification by the NREMT before it is validated. You will receive notification of the validation by your primary means of contact you designated on your Training Officer profile. Message Center When you first click on the Training Officer link, your Message Center will appear with any system messages you may need to respond to displayed. Click the Message Center link to see this page after your initial login. If no notifications are pending, in your Message Center will appear as follows: 7/20/2009 11

Managing Your Staff s Educations As a Training Officer, you may apply refresher training and courses to your EMTs individually or in groups. Applying training course information to EMTs yourself has the benefits of applying coursework to all applicable EMTs at once; knowing when the coursework was applied without having to prompt individual EMTs; the ability to apply a single course to different, appropriate EMT training levels; and avoiding confusion from having EMTs input their own course descriptions or incorrectly apply completed coursework to the wrong skill areas. Managing Training Basics Training areas shown from the Manage My Education page have three functional areas: 1. The Progress Bar this bar shows you how far along you are in completing this training. 2. The Add Course button this button allows you to add courses to be accounted toward your training requirements. 3. The Hide/Show Details link this link appears or hides the courses listed under the training (if applicable). 7/20/2009 12

2. Click the Manage Education link. Result: the Training Officer Manage Education for Roster page will open (shown in the next step). 7/20/2009 13

4. Fill in details about the Course in the Course Info tab, and then scroll down to click [NEXT] You will need to provide the following information: The name of the class The name of the class sponsor A short description of the material covered in the class The type of class it was (Case Review, Classroom Lecture, In-Service Training, Practical Hands-on training etc.) The date you completed the class 7/20/2009 14

5. Select the Certification level for the class from the dropdown menu. 7/20/2009 15

6. Fill in the type of course and hours spent in the Course Details tab, then click [ADD] You will need to provide the following information: The subject or type of the course from the dropdown menu, such as airway, elective, preparatory, or trauma (see Notes below) The number of credit hours for the course Whether the course is a mandatory or flexible course Note: The category marked Traditional Refresher Course is meant ONLY for training courses which provide all of the training in every category. Do NOT select this option unless your staff has completed this kind of course. Note: Be sure to click [ADD] or the course will not be added and you will have to re-enter the information. 7. Scroll down to click [NEXT] 8. Select the check boxes corresponding with the Staff who received credit for the course, then click [SUBMIT] 7/20/2009 16

Result: The course will be assigned to the selected EMTs from the roster. In addition, the course will be added to your Refresher Training tab on the Training Officer page. You can view it by clicking the link. To add more courses to EMTs of different training levels, see Managing Training Instructions: Adding Existing Training to Another EMT Level. 7/20/2009 17

2. Click the Manage Education link. 7/20/2009 18

7/20/2009 19

4. Click the [VIEW] button next to the course of interest. 6. Fill in the type of course and hours spent in the Course Details tab, then Click [ADD] Because a single course might apply differently to different EMT training levels, the Topic/Category and Hours options may be reselected to customize how the training course benefitted a particular level of EMT. For example, while 4 hours might apply to a Paramedic, 6 might apply to an EMT-Basic. 7/20/2009 20

You will need to provide the following information: The subject or type of the course from the dropdown menu, such as airway, elective, preparatory, or trauma (see Notes below) Result: The hours for the course will be displayed in the Course Detail tab. 7/20/2009 21

Result: the course will be assigned to the selected EMTs from the roster. 7/20/2009 22

Reviewing Pending Recertification Packets This functionality allows you to view recertification packets by EMT training level and provide feedback on their legal, disciplinary, and educational refresher statuses. 7/20/2009 23

2. Click the Pending Recertification Packets link. Result: The Training Officer Approve Recertification Packets page will open. 7/20/2009 24

EMTs, and then click [APPLY] In this table, you have the following options: You may click on the submitter s name to review their comments on their educational status. You may need to return to step 1 to come back to provide feedback if you do so. Respond yes or no to whether or not the submitter has committed a felony. Respond yes or no to whether or not the submitter has received disciplinary action since their last certification update. Approve or reject their currently submitted education refresher training. Clear your answers and start again. Result: Your responses will be applied to the appropriate EMTs and the Approve Recertification Packets screen will be displayed. 7/20/2009 25

Reviewing Pending Affiliation Requests To take full advantage of the online recertification process, Nationally certified providers must request affiliation with registered Agency. As a Training Officer, it is your role to approve affiliations for staff, Medical Directors and other Training Officers. 7/20/2009 26

2. Click the Pending Affiliation Requests link. 7/20/2009 27

Viewing or Removing People from Your Roster As a Training Officer, you will be able to review all personnel associated with your Agency either all at once or sorted by training level.
