JEFFERSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2013-2014 FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIPS High School seniors and others applying for fall enrollment as matriculated full-time freshman at Jefferson Community College may be eligible to apply for five different types of scholarships made available by the College through the JCC Foundation. This informational packet provides descriptions of these scholarships and the application process, as well as the materials necessary to apply for any of these awards. The five different types of scholarships are: Merit Scholarships These awards are for academically outstanding students. Applicants must have a current high school regents cumulative average of 90 or higher, or an SAT composite score of 1050 or higher, or an ACT composite score of 26 or higher. Jefferson-Can Scholarship The Jefferson-Can Scholars Program will provide meritbased scholarships up to full-tuition for the first year of study at Jefferson Community College for all students in the top 15% of their graduating class from high schools located in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. The top 15% will be determined initially by the high school transcript submitted at the time of application and then verified by the final high school transcript. Completion of college level coursework while pursuing a high school diploma does not disqualify a student from Jefferson-Can Scholar eligibility. Funding is for first year tuition costs only and does not include books or fees. Students will receive funds totaling full tuition costs less any other financial aid they may receive. Students who receive additional financial aid that covers the cost of tuition will receive a minimum award totaling $250. Scholarships are distributed over two semesters and are continued the second semester if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA at the College. General Scholarships These scholarships are not limited to academic performance, but may be for students who demonstrate financial need and/or who are majoring in a specific academic program. Organizational Scholarships These are scholarships established by specific organizations, with award preferences given to students whose families have a relationship with the specific organization. Some of these scholarships are also based on academic potential and/or financial need. A listing of the specific organizations offering scholarships to JCC students is provided in this packet. High School Scholarships Scholarships are awarded to graduates of specific high schools entering Jefferson Community College as freshmen.

To establish financial need, applicants must apply for Financial Aid by filing the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This should be filed by March 1, 2013. Applicants without FAFSAs on file may not be considered in the initial review of applications. Scholarships are distributed over two semesters, and are continued the second semester if the student continues to meet the scholarship criteria and acceptable academic standards. In some cases, a scholarship will continue for a student s second year at JCC, if the student continues to meet the award criteria. How To Apply To apply for any of the JCC Freshman Scholarships, applicants must submit the following: 1. A completed JCC Freshman Scholarship Application. 2. A personal statement. (Guidelines provided in application.) 3. A copy of your high school transcript. (Unless one has previously been submitted to the JCC Admissions Office.) 4. Filing of the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA). In addition, all applicants for the JCC Freshman Scholarships must also have applied for admission to Jefferson Community College. All completed applications must be received by the Jefferson Community College Financial Aid Office by this deadline.
