Your Future as a Veterinary Paraprofessional Become a Veterinary Assistant The Veterinary Science Certificate Program

The Veterinary Science Certificate Program The Veterinary Science Certificate Program provides students with the knowledge, motivation, and skills necessary to pursue a career in veterinary science. It also provides a sound platform for students who wish to pursue an associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree. This program is available through participating high schools, 4-H programs, community colleges, homeschools, and as an independent self-study program. How the Program Works High school students may enroll in sophomore, junior, and/or senior veterinary science courses for 1 to 3 years and receive career and technology or science course credit. 4-H students (ages 12-18) may enroll in the county 4-H Veterinary Science Program. Students and adults may participate on an individual self-study basis. Graduates of the program receive a certificate with the title classification of Veterinary Assistant (VA) by successfully completing a course of study in veterinary science along with an apprenticeship (clinical or nonclinical) in veterinary science.

Curriculum & Apprenticeship 1. Curriculum: Students must complete 100 lessons, questions, and 50 activities in their chosen career track. 2. Apprenticeship: Students complete 500 skill hours in an apprenticeship in their chosen career track. Three Career Tracks 1. Clinical Track: (companion, livestock, and exotic animal health) 2.
