Moreover, I personally bought and read each one of these 73 books. It was a royal waste of my time and money. PLEASE NOTE that these 73 books weren't the only ones available back then. There were dozens of others also available, including some that were written in the 1970s and 1980s. I bought and read some of those, too. PLUS... along with all of the books that were available back in the 1990s, there were also many hundreds of training cassette tapes and pamphlets. I bought a bunch of those, too. PLUS... each individual network marketing company had its own training programs. I bought some of those, too. PLUS... most of the Heavy Hitters in the many network marketing companies had their own training books and tapes that they sold only to their downlines. I bought some of those, too. So how does the "icing on a mud cake" saying apply to the 73 books as well as all of the other network marketing training that was available back then? Same way it applies to 99% of the training that is available today!!!!! The fact is that 99% of all network marketing training is just a rehashing of same old ineffective and failure-producing strategies and tactics. Just because the author gives the book or audio a fancy name, doesn't make the re-hashing of the strategies and tactics any better or more effective. Go back and read some of the book titles. Notice the "creativity" and "cuteness" of some of the titles. A customer sees the light. A customer named Phillip called me earlier this week. What he shared with me was not surprising. Phillip said, "About six months ago my upline insisted that we all buy some new book that was supposed to be incredible for network marketing training. So I bought it and started reading it. I got about halfway through and said to myself, 'This is the same stuff I learned from other books I've bought over the past ten years.' So I called my upline and told him what I thought. And he said, 'Get the audio version of the book because it's a lot better than the book.' So I got the audio version and started listening to it. And after a while I again said to myself, 'This is the same generic training I've heard time and time again.' So I pulled out your Ultimate Success CDs and listened to them straight through in one day. And I've made a promise to myself that I never waver again when it comes to training and strategies. I know with 100% certainty that what you teach is the most proven method to succeed in network marketing." Phillip's story is not unique. I am constantly hearing from network marketers who bought the "latest greatest" network marketing training book only to realize afterwards that it's just a rehashing of the same old failure-producing "wishful thinking" methods that have Copyright 2014 Tracy Biller. been taught for decades. ==================== As I wrote in the previous version of this newsletter, a customer called and asked me what I thought about a new network marketing training book that's become popular in the industry? Instead of giving him my opinion, I asked him, "Does the author teach the reader to recruit the 'warm market'?" "Yes," my customer replied. "In fact, the author goes into great lengths to teach why and how we should recruit family and friends." I asked him. "Do you believe that recruiting family and friends is a viable and effective strategy for network marketing success?" "Absolutely not!" he answered. I asked him, "In your opinion, based upon what you've learned and observed during your three years in the industry, who is it that the overwhelming majority of Top Earners recruit that enables them to repeatedly build their large downlines so quickly?" "They recruit the Target Market," he said. "They recruit other network marketers." I replied, "Exactly! And that's the reason why virtually every owner of every new soonto-launch network marketing company personally recruits a handful of 'free agent' heavy hitters and cuts them a sweetheart deal to come on board. That owner knows he needs to have sales volume coming in as quickly as possible. That owner wants his company to become profitable as quickly as possible. And to create sales and profit, that owner knows he needs LOTS of people to come on board as quickly as possible. And the surest way to do that is to recruit some free agent heavy hitters, as those heavy hitters 'know how to play the game of network marketing'. Those heavy hitters are going to launch a massive recruiting campaign, using the phone as the initial contact tool, calling every network marketer they can get their hands on, being brief and to-the-point on the phone, using persuasive sales tools, following up quickly and effectively, etc." I continued, "This was all taught to me in May of 1995. It's what I did to build my two huge downlines and twice become my company's #1 earner. 99% of what I read in all of those 73 books I bought, and 99% of what I heard on tapes, was just 'feel good' crap. It was just re-hashing of flawed strategies with a barrage of feel-good clichés, feel-good quotes, feel-good personal stories, and feel-good innuendos. It got to the point where I was speed reading the books, desperately seeking those tried-and-true strategies that I could apply RIGHT NOW to greatly impact my failing business. But none of them contained any. Finally in May of 1995, one of the industry's all-time top earners said to me, 'You need to play the game like the big boys. Only recruit network marketers. Use the phone for the initial contact. Say the 30-Second Pitch to them. Use persuasive sales Copyright 2014 Tracy Biller. All rights reserved. 5
tools. Follow-up quickly and decisively. Teach everyone you sign up to do the same.'" He said, "That's some powerful stuff. But you still haven't given me your opinion on the book I asked you about. What do you think of it?" I replied, "You said the author teaches warm market recruiting in the book. So what does that tell you about the training that's in this particular book?" He answered, "It tells me that it's just a rehashing of the same crap that's been taught for decades." "You said it, I didn't!" I said with a laugh. 99.9% of the time, the "latest & greatest" network marketing training is nothing more than icing on a mud cake. While it may look really good on the outside, it actually tastes like crap. Every 2-3 years a new network marketing training emerges, and lots of people get all excited about. The producer of the "latest & greatest" training becomes the new "rock star trainer" of the industry. The fact is however, that 99% of the time the "latest & greatest" training contains the same stuff that's in most of the 73 books from the 1990s that I listed earlier. Remember this fact: there are no "new" strategies and tactics in the network marketing industry. There is only that which works, and that which does not work. And the "latest & greatest" training fancy title and all is more than likely covered in decadent icing! 2014 Tracy Biller. All rights reserved. Copyright 2014 Tracy Biller. All rights reserved. 6
