Does your student have a plan? Understanding the requirements for high school and how to earn an endorsement are critical for creating a 4 year plan for high school. Wylie ISD s creation of Career Experiences within each endorsement area will allow your student to explore their interests and strengths while preparing for post-secondary goals. These pathways bring relevance and purpose to school connecting both a personal plan and goal. Use this Career Experience guide to develop a personal high school 4 year plan. Wylie ISD Graduation Plan Overview There is one graduation plan approved by the State of Texas and Wylie Independent School District. The State of Texas Foundation High School Program requires a total of 22 units of credits. Additionally, upon entering grade 9, each student will select one or more endorsement areas for an additional 4 units of credits. In Wylie ISD, every student is expected to earn 26 credits and graduate on the Foundation High School Program with an endorsement. Foundation High School Program (FHSP) 22 Credits Pre AP, AP, and Dual Credit courses, if available, can satisfy course requirements. 4 Credits - English Language Arts English I English II English III English IV 3 Credits - Mathematics Algebra I Geometry Algebra II 3 Credits - Social Studies World History US History Government (.5) Economics (.5) 3 Credits - Science Biology Chemistry or Physics Advanced Science 2 Credits- World Language Spanish I -V French I-V 1 Credit - Fine Arts Art, Choir, Theatre, Technical Theater, Band, AP Music Theory, Dance 1 Credit - Physical Education PE, Athletics, Marching Band, Drill Team, Cheerleading, ROTC 5 Credits-Electives Foundation High School Program + Endorsement 26 Credits Students are able to earn one or more endorsements as part of their graduation requirements. Students must select an endorsement prior to entering 9th grade. Students can meet with their counselor if they wish to change their endorsement. Students earn an endorsement by: Completing curriculum requirements of FHSP (22 credits) and; Requirements of 1 endorsement, and; 1 additional credit of math, and; 1 additional credit of science, and; 2 additional elective credits. WISD students can choose from these endorsement areas: Arts & Humanities Business & Industry Public Services STEM Career Experiences are pathways for students to explore their interests and earn an endorsement for their high school graduation requirements. Distinguished Level of Achievement & Performance Acknowledgements Additionally, a student may earn the Distinguished Level of Achievement and/or a Performance Acknowledgment for outstanding performance. The Distinguished Level of Achievement must be earned to be admitted to a Texas public university under the Top 10 percent automatic admission law. Distinguished Level of Achievement Foundation Program requirements 4 credits in math including Algebra II 4 credits in science At least 1 endorsement Performance Acknowledgments Dual credit course Bilingualism and biliteracy PSAT, ACT s Plan, SAT or ACT Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exam Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license

Earning an Endorsement Business and Industry Arts and Humanities CTE Coherent Sequence Route 4 Credits in CTE Electives (Minimum of three courses) which includes: At least 2 from the same cluster At least 1 advanced level CTE course Final course from one of the following clusters: - Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources - Architecture and Construction - Arts, A/V Technology, and communications - Business Management and Administration - Finance - Hospitality and Tourism - Information Technology - Manufacturing English Language Art/Journalism Elective Coherent Sequence 4 English elective credits by selecting 3 levels in one of the following areas: Advanced journalism: newspaper Advanced journalism: yearbook Academic Coherent Sequence (select one of the following) 5 credits - Social Studies Language Other Than English (LOTE) Coherent Sequence (select one of the following) or (2 in 2 areas) 4 English elective credits by selecting 3 levels in one of the following areas: 4 levels of same language in a LOTE; or 2 levels of same language in LOTE and 2 levels of different language in LOTE Fine Arts Coherent Sequence (select 4 credits from one or two of the following areas: 4 credits Art 4 credits Dance 4 credits Music 4 credits Theatre Public Service STEM CTE Coherent Sequence Route 4 Credits in CTE Electives (Minimum of three courses) which includes: At least 2 from the same cluster At least 1 advanced level CTE course Final course from one of the following: - Education & Training - Law, Public Safety - Health Science Elective Coherent Sequence (must include all) 4 courses in Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Academic Coherent Sequence (select one of the following) 5 credits Mathematics (must complete Algebra II and 2 additional courses beyond Algebra II), or 5 credits Science (must complete biology, chemistry, physics and 2 additional advanced science courses) CTE Coherent Sequence 4 Credits in CTE Electives (Minimum of three courses) which includes: At least 2 from the same cluster At least 1 advanced level CTE Course Final course from STEM cluster Algebra II, chemistry, and physics are also required for the STEM Endorsement.
