(Community Nurse Practitioner) Philosophy Primary health care is an essential element of the health care system in Thailand. It responds to serve national health care policies Coverage of health insurance. High quality nursing care and effective primary health care service are able to help people to access the service, help people and their families to meet their goals and reach the service within proper time, and reduce the cost of medical care. Primary health care services need qualified community nurse practitioner to provide care for individuals at all age thorough life span and at all state of health, as well as, families and community. Nursing services focus on individual and family center and integrates new knowledge and local wisdom to provide health care services. Community nurse practitioner plays a vital role in conducting health assessment at the individual, family and community level, conducting community diagnosis, providing health screening and risk assessment, providing primary medical care, referring and providing health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation concerning individual, culture diversity, legal and professional ethics. The master of nursing science program in community nurse practitioner aims to prepare students with in-depth knowledge in community nurse practitioner. This process provide students experiences advanced nursing practice through the use of evidences, the development of critical thinking, self-directed learning skills, and leadership skills. The quality of the teaching-learning process at the master level focuses on a studentcentered approach. Field practice is the core of nursing education, helping to promote a learning climate as well as providing students with a professional model in real situations. Nurse educators must be excellent role models with expertise in this area, and be knowledgeable of teaching-learning strategies, in order to help students achieve their goals, provide them with sufficient resources, and continuously improve the quality of nursing education. Purpose/Goals The graduates of the master of nursing science program in community nurse practitioner should have the following competencies: 1. Be knowledgeable and skillful in collecting holistic data related to individual, family, community and other health factors by using appropriate methods and tools. 2. Be able to analyze health data, diagnose, and providing care regarding the needs of persons of all ages as well as family and community.. Be able to provide primary medical care within the boundaries of professional law and be able to be able to refer for proper treatment 4. Be able to plan and implement in the areas of health promotion, prevention, and rehabilitation for persons of all ages by utilizing nursing theory and related theory, evidence and research, and other resources which are congruence with the person s life style, culture, laws and health policy.

5. Be able to evaluate nursing outcomes at the individual, family, and community level in terms of processes, outcomes and impacts, both in quantitative and qualitative as well as improve the quality. 6. Be able to make decisions concerning ethics and legal issues in providing nursing care for community. 7. Be able to seek knowledge through research and to be able to disseminate knowledge and provide innovation in nursing. 8. Be able to manage primary health care nursing services with quality and efficiency. 9. Be able to provide consultation in primary care and health service management for the community 10. Be able to collaborate with other professions and other individuals 11. Be able to conduct community diagnoses, and plan and implement to solve community health problems. COURSE DESCRIPTION NS. 60 Strategies for Health Promotion (-0-0) Concept and strategy used in health promotion not only at individual level also with group, mass, and policy driven to create healthy and quality of life for individual, family and community NS. 604 Community Nursing Management 2(2-0-0) Principles and concepts of resource management in community health care system. Emphasis is given to strategic planning, organizational and staff development, information technology, grant management, quality assurances, risk management, and outcome management. Accountability for legal and ethical management practice is emphasized NS.605 Applied Epidemiology 2(2-0-0) Concept and principle of epidemiology, and applied epidemiology and evidence related to nursing practice and health research. Analyze and critique health research based on concepts and principles of epidemiology NS. 611 Theoretical Foundation for Advanced Nursing (-0-0) This course includes fundamental concepts and theories: health concepts, system theories, nursing theories and other theories related to health and health behaviors. The relationships between theory, research and nursing practice are also included. NS. 612 Advanced Health Assessment (2-2-0) This course includes the concept and principles of assessment of the health status of individuals, interview and physical examination techniques, and data collection by using evidence regarding normal and ill health states. Physical examination covers head to toe assessment and specific health examination according to symptoms and state of the illness. Special and advanced technology techniques and laboratory findings to help analyze data in assessing health problems are also included. NS 61 Conceptual Basis for Advanced Practice Nursing 2 (2-0-0) Health Policy, Health care system, Law related to health system, Nursing system in primary, secondary, and tertiary care, the Health organization, Evolution of advanced practice nursing (APN), APN role in nursing practice and research, the Role of change agent, health care team builder, counselor, Nursing informatics system, Ethical theories, Ethical issues in nursing, and Moral judgment NS. 614 Leadership and Management Nursing 2 (2-0-0) This course includes the study of administrative and managerial theories for the health service system, principles of health economics, cost analysis, writing methods for health-service projects, project analysis and evaluation, and quality management of the health service system. The course includes change theory and change management, leadership and related behaviors, conflict management, the policy making process, negotiation, the decisionmaking process, communication, assertiveness, administrative ethics, knowledge management, and application of nursing leadership and management. NS. 615 Nursing Research (-0-0) The emphasis of this course is on research design, research methodology, the collecting of research data with different research instruments, including finding the validity and reliability of the research instrument and the analysis of data employing applied statistics.

Interpretation of research data, reporting and writing up the research findings will also be presented. In addition, research critiques and utilizing research findings will also be discussed. NS 616 Clinical Pathophysiology 2(2-0-0) This course focuses on a study of the physiological changes in the function of the human body and in responding to illness. It also includes the scientific study of the symptoms of common health problems. NS 691 Research Utilization in Nursing (-0-0) Identification of clinical problems. The purposes of this course are to search and select research articles related to clinical problems, and to analyze and critique research projects for nursing practice application. Included will be the synthesizing of research for guideline development. NS. 692 Pharmacology 2(2-0-0) This course focuses principles and concepts of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug interaction, side effects, efficiency and effectiveness of drug used to treat common health problems, and the role of advanced nurse practitioner in primary care. NS. 652 Primary Care for Clients with Common Health Concerns and Family (-0-0) This course focuses on common health problems and the reaction of clients of all ages and of the family to illness. The followings are discussed: the assessment of health status from a holistic approach, health screening, differential diagnosis, diagnosis of exacerbation, primary medical care, treatment procedures within the scope of professional law, refer, rehabilitation, health promotion and prevention by integrating nursing and related science, evidences, and local wisdom to enhance self care capability of clients and family. Ethical issues, trends in primary care, socio-cultural issues and professional law will be included in this course. NS. 65 Practicum in Primary Care for Clients with Common Health Concerns and Family (-0-0) This course focuses on primary care practice for clients with common health concerns and family and covers health assessment, differential diagnosis, diagnosis of exacerbation, and primary medical treatment within the scope of professional law, prevention of complications, rehabilitation, and prevention of illness relapse by utilizing evidence, local wisdom and related science to enhance self care capability of clients and family. Ethical issues regarding individual rights, individualism and culture diversity will also be included in this course. NS. 654 Primary Care for Clients with Chronic Illness, Family and Community (-0-0) This course focuses on concepts of chronic illness and the response of clients of all ages, family and community to chronic illness. The assessment of health status from a holistic approach is discussed along with, diagnosis of exacerbation, primary medical treatment, symptom management, rehabilitation, and health promotion by integrating evidence, local wisdom nursing and related science, to provide care for the clients and family, enhancing self care capability of clients, family and community. Ethical issues regarding individual rights, individualism, culture diversity, trends in primary care and the professional laws and ethics will also be included in this course.

NS. 655 Practicum in Primary Care for Clients with Chronic Illness, Family and Community (-0-0) This course focuses on primary care practice with clients at all age groups living with chronic illness, family and community and covers health assessment, differential diagnosis, health risk assessment, health screening, primary medical treatment within the scope of professional law and community assessment, prevention, promotion, and rehabilitation by utilizing evidence, local wisdom, and related science concerning ethical issues, culture diversity, individual rights, and individualism of clients, family, and community to enhance self care capability. NS. 656 Seminar in Community Nurse Practitioner (-0-0) This course focuses on systematically data collection related to nursing phenomena, analysis of issues related to community nurse practitioner roles, systematic review, application of decision making process and research utilization in planning in solving selected problems in practicing community nursing NS. 657 Advanced Selected Practicum in Community Nurse Practitioner ( (-0-0) This course focuses on the role of community nurse practitioner in term of providing care for acute and chronic illness of selected population in community and covers the topics of differential diagnosis, primary medical treatment, health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation from holistic approach, lifestyles, society and culture, as well as collaboration with other disciplines and organizations in community. Analyze of the quality of primary health care services will be include in this course. NS. 60 Strategies for Health Promotion (-0-0) Concept and strategies used in health promotion not only at individual level also for group, mass, and policy driven to create healthy and quality of life of individual, family and community. NS. 800 Thesis 12 Conducting selected research topics related to health problems of the client and family under advisor supervision. NS. 659 Independent study in community nurse practitioner The study selected research topics related to community nurse practitioner under advisor supervision
