Copans Road Coconut Creek, FL 33063 http://www.coconutcreek.net INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF: Police Officer (Certified) An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY $24.52 /Hour Performs entry-level specialized work in law enforcement for the Police Department. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a supervisory officer; however, a Police Officer is frequently required to use independent judgment and discretion. Quality of performance is reviewed constantly by supervisors. Work involves responsibility for rapid and efficient performance of specialized duties under normal and emergency conditions, and may involve threats to personal safety and/or life. The selected candidate must have successfully completed the basic recruit training at a certified Police Academy and possess current certification from the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer as described under Chapter 943, Florida Statutes (F.S.) or be currently enrolled in a State of Florida Police Academy and be able to obtain a Florida Law Enforcement Certification prior to employment. Job Requirements: All applicants are required to submit a completed Police Officer Background Questionnaire by the closing date/time noted above. Incomplete questionnaires will not be considered. Failure to submit a Police Officer Background Questionnaire will be grounds for immediate disqualification. A criminal history check, including FCIC/NCIC, and a driving record check shall be conducted for all applicants as part of the application process. Any applicant who does not meet Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) requirements or City of Coconut Creek Police Department standards shall not be eligible for further consideration. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Communicates verbally and in writing; in person and by two-way radio and telephone, frequently under stressful conditions Enforces ordinances of the City and laws of the State Assists citizens in a variety of public service situations Promotes favorable public relations through public contact

Patrols an assigned area during a specific period in a police patrol unit, which contains emergency equipment for apprehending law violators, for rescue, and for fighting small fires Investigates vehicle and other accidents Takes appropriate police action in emergency situations Investigates suspicious conditions and complaints Makes arrests of persons who violate laws and ordinances Checks doors, windows, and premises of unoccupied commercial or residential properties in order to detect suspicious conditions Issues citations to traffic violators and ordinance violators Responds to the scenes of medical emergencies, fire, accidents, or other emergency situations and takes necessary actions Makes daily report of activities Participates in training Uses or maintains equipment, including specialized equipment, i.e. computer, fire extinguisher, car jacks, etc. Provides public with general information pertaining to crime prevention Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida as described under Chapter 493 of the Florida Statutes, or be currently enrolled in a commissionapproved (CJSTC) basic recruit training program and become certified by the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer as described under Chapter 493 of the Florida Statutes prior to employment. Must meet the following minimum qualifications for employment or appointment: 1. Be at least 21 years of age. 2. Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any law of the state to the contrary. 3. Be a high school graduate or its equivalent as the commission has defined the term by rule; two (2) years college level coursework in criminal justice or related field, or two (2) years documented police related experience preferred. Must be able to meet minimum standards as set forth by Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in order to obtain police certification. 4. Possess Law Enforcement Officer Certification in the State of Florida or be currently enrolled in the police academy and have the ability to obtain State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification. 5. Have successfully completed the CJBAT test at the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) at Broward College (BC) or Palm Beach State College (PBSC) or the FBAT test at Miami Dade College, and the swimming and physical agility tests at the CJI at BC. Such testing must be completed prior to turning in your application. The written exam results are valid for four (4) years from the date taken. The physical agility exam result is valid for six (6) months from the date taken. The swimming test result is valid for life. Applicants must contact the CJI prior to application to verify which tests they are required to take. 6. Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical exam provided by a licensed physician hired by the City. 7. Must pass a drug screen test. 8. Must pass a psychological examination. 9. Must pass a polygraph or CVSA (computer voice stress analysis) exam. 10. Be able to meet the vision requirements pursuant to CJSTC standards. 11. t have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendre to or is found guilty of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement is not eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. twithstanding this subsection, any person who has pled nolo contendre to a misdemeanor involving a false statement, prior to December

1, 1985, and has had such record sealed or expunged shall not be deemed ineligible by said plea for employment or appointment as an officer. 12. Be a person who has not sold, offered for sale, or induced or attempted to induce any other person in the use of illegal drugs. 13. Have documentation of his or her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency or the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. 14. Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the CJSTC. 15. Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the CJSTC. 16. Execute and submit to the City of Coconut Creek the affidavit-of-applicant form, adopted by the CJSTC, attesting to his or her compliance with the CJSTC requirements. The affidavit shall be executed under oath and constitutes an official statement within the purview of s.837.06, F.S. 17. Achieve an acceptable score on the officer certification examination for a Law Enforcement Officer. 18. Comply with the continuing training or education requirements of s. 943.135. 19. Possess mechanical and technical aptitude. 20. Have the ability to observe situations analytically and objectively. 21. Have the ability to react quickly, firmly, and courteously with the public. 22. Be able to remain calm and act decisively in an emergency situation involving personal hazard. 23. Possess the ability to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions. 24. Be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in the English language. 25. Have the ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick and efficient course of action. 26. Possess good social skills, general intelligence, be in good physical condition, and have good strength and agility. 27. Be able to be decisive, possess self-control, have high integrity and character, and courage. 28. Have a good driving record, and the ability to receive a State of Florida driver s license by date of appointment. 29. Ability to learn and follow the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Coconut Creek Police Department and the City of Coconut Creek. 30. Must accurately and fully complete the application and documents submitted for hire. 31. Cannot have visible tattoos while wearing standard issued uniforms. If hired prior to completion of an approved CJSTC course, the employee s one year probationary period will begin on the date of certification by the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer. If currently certified by the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer, employee s one year probationary period will begin on the date of hire. Must live in Palm Beach, Broward or Dade County within the first three (3) months of job offer. Knowledge of the geography of the City is a plus. Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and shift work is an essential function of this position SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/ or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and /or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and / or disease, or pathogenic substances SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors. Tasks may involve standing and walking for extended periods of time. Eligibility List Criteria: An eligibility list shall be valid for six (6) months (may be extended up to two (2) years at the City s discretion), or until the list is abolished, whichever comes first. The list is formed based on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants on the eligibility list will be given consideration for each vacancy.
