Application Note Streamlining DSL installations using ReVeal BX Server software The Verification Experts
The conventional way... People often talk about being more efficient, automating the process, or removing human intervention from simple or complex daily tasks, however very few succeed. In the Last Mile where high speed Triple Play broadband service meets customer premises, human intervention is often difficult to remove. We should never aim to eliminate the human element completely, however VeEX can provide you with the necessary tools to streamline the installation process ensuring customer satisfaction, reducing follow-on service calls, optimizing the workforce, and improving overall customer satisfaction. 1 Customer calls for new DSL service or repairs Technician is dispatched with customer details 2 3 Work is performed at customer location Customer signs job-card before technician leaves 4 5 Test data has to be verified; problems are flagged 6 Job-cards have to be stored and archived for future use 2
The VeEX way... a streamlined process VeEX provides various solutions that can be used independently or combined together as a single powerful tool. Step 1 The dispatch server updates ReVeal BX Server with a new work order, which informs the technician via email, SMS or message. Step 2 Technician connects the BX100A/V to an Ethernet connection, and downloads the work order. Step 3 Technician performs required tests - either individual tests or according to pre-defined test profile. Step 4 Technician shows test results to the customer who accept by signing electronically on the test set. Step 5 The technician closes out the work order and uploads test results to a ReVeal BX Server via FTP connection. Step 6 ReVeal BX Server documents and analyzes test results, issues a service order to a dispatch server if follow up is needed, and triggers an alarm if results are incomplete. The server can be interfaced with billing/dispatch system for a complete integration and process automation removing human intervention and errors. Signature pad The final hand over - customer electronically signs the work order upon completion. The signature is securely stored and kept with the results of the installation/repair. Advanced management The BX100A/V advanced management option works with ReVeal BX Server - it permits authorized test sets to register with a specific ReVeal BX Server in order to download new test profiles, measurement thresholds, and to upload test results performed on site. It also keeps track of software versions authorized to perform tests in the Operator s DSL network and prompts the user to upgrade to the most recent approved version. Home Installation Process (HIP) Considered to be the Birth Certificate of a new installation, HIP is a customized and automated installation test process. A step-by-step scripted process for the technician, eliminates guess-work, leaving no room for errors. Each installation is guaranteed to have consistent measurements performed to the same standards. 5
