EDITION: SPRING/SUMMER 2013 Greetings from ASCA School Supplies Team! New Preferred Suppliers ASCA is pleased to announce four new suppliers to its family of preferred suppliers. Each has content in this newsletter. They are: Edval Leading supplier of school scheduling and timetabling systems Sentral School and student management modular software suite efulfillment Services Wide range of print and mailing services Peacock Student ID card printers and supplies As with all ASCA s preferred suppliers these companies are specialists in the school education sector and provide best value for money when assessing quality, service and price. Selecting Preferred Suppliers Many of our members ask us how we select our preferred suppliers. Most importantly we speak to our member schools about short listed suppliers. We are only interested in companies that are dedicated to the school market and have an outstanding record of providing quality and service. Sometimes we use competitive tendering and at other times we undertake due diligence research to establish that suppliers are providing best value. All suppliers provide additional benefits to ASCA members that are not generally available in the school market. Usually this takes the form of special pricing or discounts, but there are also other innovative value adds. Member Support for ASCA Suppliers The bottom line is that ASCA members support our preferred suppliers because they provide great value service, quality and price. However ASCA members also like the fact that all ASCA s suppliers contribute in some way to helping ASCA meet its secondary goal of funding charities that support the education of disadvantaged children. ASCA looks for a long term commitment from its suppliers to providing best value for its members. Competitors that provide one off offers to match our better pricing are in the long term not the best value. ASCA suppliers have shown a willingness to develop long term relationships with schools, a critical component of effective management of suppliers. [Continued page 2] Reputable Brands. GREETINGS FROM ASCA SCHOOL SUPPLIES TEAM! [Continued from page 1] ASCA Supplier Segmentation With the increase in numbers of suppliers that ASCA recommends to its members, we are introducing a simple segmentation. We encourage suppliers in the different segments to work together where possible to offer integrated solutions to schools. For example Edval, Sentral and My ediary are three ASCA suppliers whose products integrate together. Our new segments are: Office and Administration - products and services Property products, services, maintenance Food and Beverages Faculty Supplies Parent Purchases Staff and Personal Products and Services Communicating with our Members ASCA gives a high priority to listening to its members to understand priorities, changes and innovations in schools. We run our own events and network meetings for school principals and business managers and are regular attendees at association conferences. We recently attended the International Conference of State Schools Principals in Cairns, and also other conferences of business managers and deputy principals. At these conferences we talk to delegates about ASCA suppliers and other emerging school needs. Importantly it is an opportunity for ASCA to meet suppliers who are exhibiting at the conferences and to compare their offerings. ASCA PREFERRED SUPPLIERS Schweppes has linked arms with ASCA to support fundraising activities for The Smith Family s Learning For Life program. For every Cool Ridge cap your students deposit in a customised charity bin, ASCA will donate 10c to the program. Cool Ridge Charity Cap Bins will be distributed to Canteens that sell Schweppes at the beginning of 2014. About The Smith Family s Learning For Life Program Education has the power to change lives and break the cycle of disadvantage. To improve a young person s chances to create a better economic future for themselves, research tell us it s important for children to be engaged in school and stay until Year 12 or equivalent. But sadly not every child has the same opportunities to achieve this. Our work focuses on Australian children in families and communities where we know it s harder for them to fully participate in their education without some help. Our Learning for Life program provides emotional, practical and financial support to help disadvantaged children and young people with their education. Our support starts in the early years of learning development and continues through primary and high school. Our programs help build skills, knowledge, motivation, self-belief and a network of positive relationships with parents, peers and significant others. This support increases a young person s likelihood of remaining engaged with school, completing Year 12 and developing realistic and informed study and career pathways for life beyond the school gate. Your canteen can make a difference by selling Cool Ridge water, where 10c per bottle sold will go to The Smith Family s Learning For Life Program. SCHWEPPES 1300 133 122 10 6
